Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

I would have to say not many season ticket holders for hockey would go to the basketball game over an Oswego/Plattsburgh SUNYAC final. Maybe a few will go to the HS game if they have kids playing. Going to high school at the Fort over the cozy confines of the Campus center if you have no vested interest in the HS game isn't all that appealing.

I didn't mean they would choose to go to either over Oswego/Platty. I just meant there are probably some who, like you said, may have kids playing in the game at the Fort.

Check your food before you eat it! ;) Glad you enjoyed the Press Box. It's one of my favorites.

It's about time the Cardinals win the SUNYAC; )
It has been a while, it's nice to see a first time champ. All kidding aside congrats to the Cards on winning the SUNYAC title again. I am still waiting for the day Oswego puts a run of a couple in a row together, and probably will be for a long time.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

Nothing to get excited about. Really an irrelavant game for the Lakers. They host a quarter final NCAA game win or lose. That is the important game. If Oswego continues to dominate as they have been regular season the Sunyac championship becomes less and less important. Who really keeps track other than that guy down in Platty who just likes to come to Oswego to see some good looking women for a change.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

You are crazy to say that this game meant nothing. I know it meant a whole lot to me and the players. I heard people leaving saying the same thing and that is just nuts. It gets pretty old watching the Cardinals hoist the trophy up for another year.

Guess it depends on what you consider "meaning something." In a sense, even if both teams had one loss and were number 1 and 2 in the NCAA rankings, it would mean something to the fans of course. The players as well I'm sure just because they all have to play what is in front of them. It gets pretty old to year about the Cardinals hoist the SUNYAC trophy just as it was old for me to have the Braves hoist he eastern division championship year after year as a Mets fan. It hurts in a way that only fans would appreciate. For the players, they all know they are going to the NCAA I'm sure...maybe they don't, I'm not sure...but in the end, I would feel for the Lakers anyway that the road in the NCAA will be tough but the lose tonight vs Plattsburgh is nothing more then a 'wake-up' (as may have been the case in 2007 - when they lost in the SUNYACs, though not the championship - and then won it all) Not saying they will do it like that again but there is def a good shot to be seeing them in Lake Placid at least I would think. It will be interesting who they will be playing next week. As for Plattsburgh, so they win...the NCAA games are going to be that much tougher for them I think. They struggled this year, plain and simple...and they were very close to not even making it to where they are now but where I want to think they might have as good of a shot to get into Lake Placid as Oswego, I wonder - can they defeat another foe that might be just as difficult as Oswego on any given night?

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

It's a defining point in making an undefeated record in conference play (16 long games), getting to host the "big game in the littler tourney", and then yucking it up by putting on an average performance. Plattsburgh put down their version of play after that deflating, late 2nd period goal, and the Lakers never pulled the trigger at the right time again, save for one crazy rush. Cards win again.

This was a very disappointing night for Oswego State, as our BB team crapped out in 2OT too. The only upside I've got is that it'll be only a week this time around for the Lakers to stop stewing and start skating again - I pray that their confidence isn't shattered after this one, and that everyone associated with Oz hockey keeps their wits about them. This one has got to be filed away for learning purposes, and absolutely nothing else. Keep the faith.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

I don't know I guess I'm just the type that hates losing even when I have no affect on the outcome of the game. This hurts a lot because of the recent trend of how things have gone after this, but still gotta keep the faith as Bon Jovi would say.

The Cardinals can win big ones when they can lay down some grungy offense and very tight defenses in protecting 1 goal games. I think that's indicative as to how their schedule results played out - many a close one that sometimes took extra time. If they run into a team like Amherst or SNC, who are similar in D efforts, it would be an interesting match, to say the least. But a team like us (or even JUST us, wouldn't I love that to happen) again...I'll hazard a guess that whichever side establishes their style first has the game in hand. Its been a tale of 2 games between our clubs, and God knows how a third (technical fourth) would potentially play out.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

First Congrats to Platty. 3 big observations on the Cards on this game. 1 they actually took the last 42 minutes to Oswego, 2 their power play was not the umbrella easy to defend one but one from the play book of the 80's and that is to place a man or 2 infront or beside the goalie, 3 they play a more physical game. All three aspects were big for this win. If they play like this in the NCAA's they will go far. Either way the SUNAYC's will have 2 excellent teams to represent the conference and hopefully one will bring home the championship.

True, it is the first time the Cardinals defeated Oswego this year, and last year, and well ... Since March 7, 2009.

And it was a great game, Plattsburgh took 5 for 10, but that might have been a motivating factor, I taped the game on TW 1027, those back home who couldn't make were impressed by the quality of production - as I told them they would be. Next up for both teams - the NC$$'s.

This is really it in a nutshell. In the Whiteout game McConney's goal and the 3 on 2 forced Plattsburgh to play from behind and they couldn't do it. Oswego had a hot start tonight but didn't put a goal in and never seized the momentum. That allowed Platty to muck it up and make it an ugly game and even though Oswego scored first they were never able to grab the game by the horns. They will have to do a bit better job going forward of clawing back into a game against a team that doesn't give them anything easy because in their winning string they never had a game like that against a real tough opponent. They didn't look like they wanted to get dirty to try and get a goal and in a game like that, sometimes you have to. I think they still have as good a shot as anyone of winning a national title but they can't afford to have any more games where they don't give it everything they have from here on out.

Anyone who underestimates them is dreaming, they ABSOLUTELY have as good a shot as anyone of winning a national title.

This game they really weren't able to find the net, much like the Cardinals alot this season, there first goal, a 5 on 3, and the second - well anyone who seen wouldn't have wanted to bet they would score one THAT way. That said, unfortunately, it is a one and done, fortunately for Oswego the "done" is only for the SUNYAC Championship, I don't want to play them again - until --- March 17th!!

It would be a real nice potential for these two teams to be on opposite brackets until they merge at the Title Game, just like two years back. I'll bank that both clubs hope for different outcomes compared to that series of unfortunate events...;)

You don't know Laker hockey then. EVERY game vs Plattsburgh is relevant.

Now that I've had time to sleep on it, I have 2 observations:

1- Last night, the Oswego team that played last night is the same team that lost to Neumann on Dec 31. Too many missed passes and whiffed shots. They just looked like they were out of position through most of the game. Oswego may be the better overall team this year, but Platty was definitely the better team last night.

2- I don't care who started it, that fight in the stands after the game was pathetic. Even if an Oswego fan started it, I saw at least 5 Plattsburgh fans pounding one guy. There's no need for that kind of thing. Every fan that was involved in that (on BOTH sides) should be ashamed of themselves.

Let me tell you something about Siena Hockey right now. This afternoon we play in the SECHL conference championship game against fierce rivals William Paterson University. This game has no impact of Nationals, seeding, etc. Both teams are booked to go to Florida, and their first-round round-robin schedules are already set. This game changes nothing on the national picture. But I can promise you that both teams take this game seriously. The Siena boys are looking at this one like their season is made or broken by this game, and this game alone. If we don't win the SECHL championship, the season will have been a failure. And all of this despite the game having zero impact on the national championship tournament in 2 weeks.

Whether you choose to believe it or not, teams actually care about their conference trophies. Teams care about the big rivalry games. And nobody holds back anything when those 2 things happen simultaneously. For you to say it's meaningless now, your team having lost the big game, sounds an awful lot like excuse-making to me.
