Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

I got to say I kind of agree with Dukester (scary isn't it ole pall) and at the same time no. While I can see the point of "we have our eyes on the bigger prize" is no doubt the truth, Oswego is a National contender for sure, I don't agree that the game meant nothing to the team before that final whistle blew. One could argue it didn't mean anything to Plattsburgh either as just another SUNYAC title wasn't a do or die for the Cards just like the Lakers. I also don't bye the whole "we wern't the same team, our team played bad". The difference in the game was Plattsburgh A. Finished their chances and B. Took it to the Lakers. When Plattsburgh goes right at a team they can beat anyone. When they play with that defense first, play back, and lets play defense other teams find ways to either get back in games, or take away games from Plattsburgh. The best defense is not to let the other team in your zone, period. As soon as they play back on their heals, teams take advantage of it normally. But the last two minutes really showed that taking it to a team, instead of dumping and letting them come at you, works. Oswego got one really good rush and that was it because Plattsburgh continued to forecheck and control the puck. And a stick check penalty with 4 minutes to go? Wow. If you would have told me a week ago Plattsburgh would outshoot Oswego by almost double (and they missed a few in the first period), Plattsburgh would get 5 penalties to Oswego's 2, have a 3-1 lead late in the third, have a penalty called in the last 4 minutes down by 1, and still win....I'd ask for some of what ever you're on. Having said all that Oswego is still my tourny pick for 2012.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

Whether you choose to believe it or not, teams actually care about their conference trophies. Teams care about the big rivalry games. And nobody holds back anything when those 2 things happen simultaneously. For you to say it's meaningless now, your team having lost the big game, sounds an awful lot like excuse-making to me.

It's only meaningless when the clock strikes 00:00 in that final period and the other team has one more point then you. The talent on Oswego is a treat to watch as a hockey fan, but as someone posted on another site Heart/Emotion > Talent!

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

Another former Laker and I watched the game and both came away with the same feeling. Plattsburgh was clearly the better team on the ice yesterday. I don't buy for one second the boys had their eyes on a bigger prize. To say so knocks their effort and preparation and takes away the credit that is due Emery and the Cards.

Good luck to Platty the rest of the way (though I hope you lose, sorry about that), it would be cool if the two were to meet one last time in Placid.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

Nothing to get excited about. Really an irrelavant game for the Lakers. They host a quarter final NCAA game win or lose. That is the important game. If Oswego continues to dominate as they have been regular season the Sunyac championship becomes less and less important. Who really keeps track other than that guy down in Platty who just likes to come to Oswego to see some good looking women for a change.

Never change :)

Lewis Carroll:

"The March Hare will be much the most interesting, and perhaps as this is May it won't be raving mad -- at least not so mad as it was in March."

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

I'll pile it on for the conversation surrounding Dukester's comment:rolleyes: - for the purposes of seeding and "who's playing who" in the ridiculous bracket madness ensuing tonight, I for one am convinced that Oswego's situation was not going to change (aside from the Cadets supplanting them from #1), regardless of the outcome of this SUNYAC Title game. Plattsburgh had much more to gain in this win: going up against the likes of Amherst in a slightly lower seeding, they may have just wrapped up a "one and go" QF at Stafford. The Lakers will likely have the same scenario at the CC, what with their proximity to the West warranting the same potential opponents as if they were still #1. In this respect, I would agree with Dukester, and Platty got what they needed.

But I'll leave my disagreement to one sentence: it always has been, and always will be, a strong pain of anguish when the Cardinals knock off the Lakers, and losing the title match in our own barn manifested in this pain tenfold.

NCAA time people - less then 9 hours to go.

My comment was only made tongue in cheek, more for my Platty friends. It was some levity. I didn't expect anyone to take it to heart. Of course the game mattered. Having said that come next Saturday the situation is the same if the Laker's had won last night. That was the real point.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

I agree with you that the game was far from irrelevant to your team and fan base. You have some great, regular fans who I spoke to after the game. I could see the disappointment in their eyes. Been there too and know the feeling. It was not just another "SUNYAC championship for the Plattsburgh fans either. The rivalry is always there year after year and to accomplish what they did last night means alot to the team and loyal followers and can not be dismissed so easily.Secondly, I agree also about the altercation. It just took aways from the moment and was uncalled for. It was embarrasing. Thanks to Oswego for your good ticket procedures, organization of the game and above all the friendliness we received from your loyal fans. Great game!

Just got back up to the Burgh and I thought I would leave a couple of parting comments. Thank you Oswego and the Oswego Fans for a very good hockey experience. The town is a nice town and the people are really a class act. Except for a couple of idiots it was a flawless experience. I look forward to many more trips to come and as many Cardinal wins as we can get!!!! :D

Were any of you guys there when the fight started? I'm interested to know what happened. I was on the other side and I hear a few people say "Oh my God!" I look up and I see 5 or 6 guys throwing fists. Like I said, I have a feeling an Oswego fan was over there and some words were said and it escalated from there.

I'm not sure there will be a police report. UP showed up, they led one guy out (more like they helped him out) and then left the Platty fans alone.

Wasn't there...going on first hand reports by folks in the area and the blow by blow from the press box....the majority of the cops that work the campus center are true blue NYS troopers...I know the guy who runs that detail. If there is a report he will know.

Re: Oswego & Plattsburgh - 2012 Whiteout redux 3-3-12

words were exchanged by a Plattsburgh fan and who we believe to be an Oswego players family member who came up a few rows to confront the Plattsburgh fan. after some words the family member shoved the Plattsburgh fan down then all hell broke loose. another family member jumped in as did a couple Plattsburgh fans. UP did issue appearance tickets to at least the Plattsburgh fan, and I'm assuming the family member as well.

A lady who was wearing an Oswego sweater told me that it was Ian Boots's uncle and that it was no surprise there either....Just what I heard!

Other than the fight it appears business as usual in OZ, broken cars, forged IDS and burning rope...;)
