Re: oshie in sochi.

NHL should have all new rinks built to Olympic size. These guys have outgrown the NHL size. The extra room of the big rink gives just enough more time and space for the game to have more wide-open, exciting style.

Ha! And give up the money they can make from the two to three rows of seats that would need to be removed on the sides to allow it?

Although I am quite fond of the "big ice" and would love to see it adopted more.

Re: oshie in sochi.

Does anyone know if it kicks into overtime only for the entire medal round?

Medal round is 5 on 5 10 minute OT, followed by shootout. Gold game is 20 minute 5 on 5, followed by shootout. Not a fan, but the NHL GMs hate the Olympics enough as it is.

TJ wins the second Cold War with dangle sauce and sniping Bryzy through the wickets, so glad I got up at 5:45am for that game.

Agreed, they have outgrown 85x200. That game was fun to watch.

Would never know it from the UVM games at UNH last weekend. :-(

Re: oshie is sochi.

job well done from Oshie and Team USA!

meanwhile, the only collegiate playing at Sochi picks up a PP assist today vs. Sweden.
Congrats to BGSU's Ralfs Freibergs and Team Latvia, giving the mighty Swedes a handful.

If anything it would be neat for rinks to be a little less standard.

The thing I like about college hockey is that you get big schools and small schools, programs with decades of tradition and smaller schools, far different recruiting and talent profiles, big ice and small ice- it makes for quite varied matchups all season long. In the NHL, everybody is so good (and you get such point inflation from OT/SO's) that I feel like the on-ice product is kind of sterile and doesn't really get interesting until right around playoff time. Which, conveniently enough, is right when the college season is wrapping up

Also- yes, very sweet to see former college players representing Team USA very well on the Olympic stage! Even if his college jersey was that horrendous green color.

Re: oshie in sochi.

Have to give props to CT boy Jonathon Quick, after getting undressed badly he came back strong to keep the US in it. Oshie's slow approach is exasperating to watch, but I guess it works.

Full disclosure, I had a late night and an early morning during which my brain was soaked in Jameson and Fat Tire so a mistake may have been made.

Stating you had a drunken stupor the night before is redundant.

Did anyone clamoring for the larger sheet in the NHL watch the last Olympic gold medal game?

Re: oshie is sochi.

The lady sports caster on NBC not sure her name , jokingly mentioned oshie would be a great running mate for Hillary clinton. I realize NBC is in the tank for the libs but come on . Oshie goes on to mention the real heroes wear camp.

I'm sure sorry T.J. put you through that torture... too bad there wasn't some yalies there to show him how to do it right.

Re: oshie in sochi.

It would be cool if teams could choose what style rink they wanted to have. It would be fun to see different teams adapt during the season to different ice sizes, creating a home ice advantage. It would be alot like baseball with the different configured stadium's or the nfl with weather conditions, dome teams vs outdoors teams.
Oshie was amazing today for sure, even his misses were real close.

She should have asked Oshie who will be his running mate. He'd probably choose anybody but Hillary;)

Disagree vehemently.

It's one thing if the NHL let's teams choose the size of their rink like some suggest, but the regular NHL games doesn't have the best of the best playing against each other in each game. You'd see way to much neutral zone trapping and in turn less exciting hockey.
