Open Wheel Racing 2013...year of the driver swap!

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2013...year of the driver swap!

Alonso is the THE man with that great start and ending up second. He may be the best standing start guy of the last 30 years. I have no doubts if the Ferrari was just a few 10ths off of Vettel Alonso could beat in.

This is the truth!

A reason I am liking Hamilton more and more:

“I saw a glimpse of him on the podium and I was happy for him[Vettel]. I tried to imagine what it would be like if I was winning races the way he is winning races,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1. “Me, I don't want to be able to be that far ahead though, I want to be able to fight with him or whoever.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2013...year of the driver swap!

The reprimands that Alonso and Webber received for the ride back to the Paddock, which due to being his 3rd of the year, resulted in a 10 grid place penalty for Webber is turning out to be quite commical. Via Twitter, Webber posted two pictures. The first showed several shots of the same thing happening in the recent past. And the second was a photo of it happening at Singapore. Really quite amusing to think the Stewards are punishing them for the "taxi" ride.

And for me the most humorous thing about this incident was sent out by the Lotus F1 Team:

Ten Things We Commit To Do in Order to Avoid a Penalty

1. Not swear on the podium during an official TV interview. (Oops, Kimi did that already)
2. Not show explicit images of rabbits having a good time. (Oops, we did that already)
3. Not go outside the track limits by 0.02 cm. (Oops Romain did that already)
4. Not make Sebastian Vettel have to fight for an overtake. (Oops Kimi did that already)
5. Not wind up our rivals on social media. (Oops we did that already)
6. Not post a photo of Christian Horner naked. (Oops we did that twice already)
7. Not walk with a gnome without a paddock pass in the pitlane. (Oops we did that already)
8. Not to go off circuit thininking it's a shortcut. (Oops Kimi did that already)
9. Not share false technical information to make people laugh. (Oops we did that already)
10. Not use Roscoe, or any other cute pet to make people laugh. (Yeah, we did that one too)

I personally find #4 hilarious!

In discussion on another forum, it was pointed out that the reprimand may have been more about where and how Webber got picked up than about the ride itself.

I have heard that too and my response to it is the same as Webber's:

I have full trust in the fellow top drivers at 280 kph between the walls, so I can trust them at 60/70 kph on cool down lap.

I understand where the Stewards are coming from, I just do not think the punishment fits the crime so to speak. I think that a fine would have been acceptable and maybe warranted, but a grid penalty is not.

The problem is they can't fine the drivers anymore. That was the compromise worked out by the FIA with the drivers when the FIA raised the superlicense fee to astonomical levels and the drivers protested loudly. So, in essence, the drivers screwed themselves by insisting on this fee scheme.

Fine the teams then.

Another reason to dislike Vettel:

After getting booed on the podium yet again in Singapore, the Red Bull driver surmised that the detractors are “jealous”, and implied that his rivals are not beating him because they are lazy.

“Whilst there’s a lot of people hanging their balls in the pool very early on Fridays, we’re still here working very hard and pushing very hard,” Vettel had said

I seriously doubt what he said about the laziness is true. However, after comments like this I have to wonder if he honestly doesn't know why he is disliked by fans (& my guess other drivers to some extent).

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2013...year of the driver swap!

There will be an Indy roadcourse race 2 weeks before the 500. I think it's worth a shot to give it a try once. I can see a market for roadcourse enthusiasts vs oval pure lovers.

Mikey is popping twins out at age 50? What was he thinking?! Not that he's a regular dad or anything, he'll just have to employ a nanny again.

Rush has been getting good reviews. Now to make time to see it.

he's just an ***. What he needs to straighten out is to have a Alonso or Raikkonen as a teammate, in equal cars they'd win more than this kid would. Riccardo is just going to be another 2nd place driver getting 2nd place parts.

I am planning on either tomorrow or Tuesday to catch it. I don't want to wait too long it case it doesn't play long in my area. I don't have the luxury of being near a larger city to see movies so my choices can be very limited.

Grrr..It has been a super busy week and I still have not made it to see Rush yet. One way or the other I am getting there this weekend! The wife has been notified. ;)

And if anyone is on Twitter you should follow the Lotus F1 team. That team has an awesome sense of humor. On the side of Kimi's car for the weekend is a small graphic of a Taxi light from the top of a taxi and it says next to it: "Up for a Free Ride". :) That is their hastag for the Korean weekend.

Just got home from seeing Rush- great movie. Another Ron Howard movie where you know the story, and how it ends, and it's still quite exciting and captivating.

Formula 1 - Lather, rinse, repeat.

Why didn't I feel this way when Schumi was ruling F1??

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2013...year of the driver swap!

yup.

and to answer your rhetorical: because Schumacher wasn't a punk?

Really ? With that stupid fake jump for joy on every podium ? God that always ****ed me off, because it was so clearly superficial. Those years ruined the sport for me....then again, maybe just never the same after Senna died. I hate all the winglets on the cars and that fact that all the development is aero and that the mechanical stuff is either frozen of standardized (engines, gearboxes). I'm actually glad the did away with refueling, but they should let the drivers / teams choose the tire compound they want to run for the race then calculus between soft and extra stops and hards and fewer stops. Also, so many of the tracks in this era are horrendous - and Korea is one of them. Hope they never go back and cant wait for Suzuka.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2013...year of the driver swap!

man I hope there are no serious injuries (fans) in Houston. It looks like a tire bounced over the catch-fence and there's word that 15 fans were injured or treated...
