Olympic women's hockey

Re: Olympic women's hockey

Saw Oden a few times this year & she is good but will have to improve to crack the top 2 lines. I thought Hughes might be a little better but part of that may be that she had to be be because Centennial's arsenal is not up to Edina's. Both will be solid contributors.

That's exactly what is good about Oden is that if she doesn't crack the top 2 lines (which could be the case) she does the other things well without the puck, like back-checking and blocking shots.

Re: Olympic women's hockey

I'll give you my vote! I guess there's a lot of fans who think their blood still runs green, but they did have great frosh seasons here. Can't they be with our "Olympians"? They sure aren't going to get much exposure in the Ralph, since the team they deserted us for vanished. We seem to be pretty open accepting a lot of other refugees here in MN, how about M+J?

Loved your refugee comment about the Lams. They should be in photos on the wall with our other Olympians. When they played in the 2010 Olympics the only college they had played for was Minnesota. Maybe now that they've won gold medals their photos would be a little more accepted inside Ridder arena. I guess I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I think the difference is that the Rogers departure was a mutually agreed move. In the case of (then) Ms Potter and the twins that was not the case...

...It's just that they are our opponents. They built the UND program!

God Bless them for that but don't put them on the Gopher wall!
While it may be Petty to say:
Everyone believes what they want to believe. But the Lams Don't. Have. To live like they're refugees.

After all:
Somewhere, Somehow, SomeSioux kicked them around some. Their program was kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom. And it didn't end well.

All of the slashing, hooking, tripping & roughing that went on in the college years?
It don't really matter to me. Every forward's had to fight to be free.

Yes, the U Of M has a legitimate grievance regarding the transfers to UND. But:
I'm sure a lot of other schools have been burned. They don't have to live like they're refugees!

Brilliant. Maybe their photos belong in the US Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth. They could also replay the game with Canada over and over again in a room as they did (and maybe still do) with the 1980 US gold medal game with Russia.
If you're referring to the small museum at the 1980 Rink, they still do. Made that pilgrimage last summer.

For the Lam display, I'd say Eveleth is the answer. And if Toronto wants to pay homage as well, so much the better.

Re: Olympic women's hockey

Technically, this translates to "Lamoureux is a jelly doughnut." I think you mean "Ich bin Lamoureuxer."

In parts of Germany a "Berliner" is a jelly doughnut, however, not in Berlin where Kennedy gave his speech. The word used in Berlin for a type of pastry similar to a jelly doughnut is "Pfannkuchen." No one would ever mistake either of the Lamoureux twins for a jelly doughnut. Or even Danish for that matter.

In the US Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth there was a room set up with a television that would continuously play the semifinal game between the Soviet Union and the United States from the 1980 Olympics. They had other hockey memorabilia from the game in the room as well. It's been 18 years since I lived in Eveleth, but I seem to remember the Olympic jersey of local hero Mark Pavelich was in the room for awhile as well. And there may have been something from John Harrington too, who went to high school a few miles north in Virginia. I also remember in 1993 when Charles Schulz was inducted. Snoopy was very proud.

Re: Olympic women's hockey

They also play it on the new video scoreboard over the ice when there is no event going on !

Wait! What?

They have a new video scoreboard?! They took down the "iconic" original, which had been left there for so long specifically because of the Miracle on Ice?

It just won't be the same when I go back in a month.

Yes they did....there was a lot of controversy about it for a while. One of the panels is on display somewhere in the arena, but I have not been inside to see where. One is going to the manufacturer and the location other two has not been determined. https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-olympics-scoreboard-miracle-on-ice/97446730/ http://www.mynbc5.com/article/lake-placid-olympic-center-replacing-miracle-on-ice-scoreboard/8682165

I got to think one of those panels goes to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Don't know where the fourth panel should go to.

Pine Street Arena.

After all, it was OUR guy who was the timekeeper! (and, as far as I know, he's still alive).

It's not a bad idea giving it to the timekeeper. OTOH and I hate to say it being a Gopher fan, but I think the 4th panel should go to the the Kohl Center in Madison. Without Mark Johnson's 2 goals the panels when they were taken down would have ended up in a dumpster. If there is an original clock somewhere around in the arena, maybe the timekeeper could get that.;)
