Olympic team losses

Re: Olympic team losses

Pannek also except USA Hockey probably wants someone who does better in the '40' rather than block shots and create goals.
There are players who look prettier skating around cones, faster while skating in a straight line, and those who possess a harder slap shot. But I can't think of any female player who has as much creativity and "hockey sense" that Pannek has. She would be leading the country in points by even a larger margin if the Gophers' first line had remained healthy and intact this season.

bingo!!! I hate watching great cone skaters who have no concept of how to play hockey.

Kelly is ridiculous with the puck and making her line mates better. She has vision that wicked good. However, for the Olympic team I don't see her having a roll in 5v5. They are trying to beat Canada and that is a back and forth skaters game. She would be perfect for the power play, but I am afraid that is already filled up with legends, Knight, Lamoureux's, Decker, Duggan, etc. Making it difficult to find a "role" on this team.

Re: Olympic team losses

some of my fellow MN fans believe a high school student is going to make the team
it's going to be tough enough for current college players to make it
IMO, most of the players mentioned here will not make it unless one or both Canada & US dump vet players in a pannek

Zero chance she makes the team. However, she has a good chance of being centralized. The US knows who is on the Olympic team already with maybe four spots up for grabs. Often about 26ish are trying out and the other few are "futures". Kids they want to expose to the training with thoughts of them making the team in 4 years.

Some of the talk is just poking at certain skunk fans.

Totally agree with all of that. She is as good as any player I've seen controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating scoring chances. The Gopher fan who sits next to me said that her only fault might be that she gets a little "too cute" around her own net with the puck at times. Maybe, but boy is she fun to watch play.

The classic case of being "gamer" vs being a "driller." I remember seeing a D1 recruit at a hockey camp a few years back the summer before her Freshman year. During the drills she was as average as everyone else but wow, during the scrimmages she was the best player at the camp without a doubt. You've gotta see a player actually play before you can judge them as hockey players. Whenever I see coaches running tryouts with either no scrimmages or only the last 10 minutes of the session, it makes me cringe.

See why can't you always be like this

would it kill you to put a question mark or period at the end so I knew what the L you are talking about

given the track record of the Olympic team developing players, I'm not so sure the college coach would want the player there unless they knew the player would make the team.

although maybe this time, they will have better coaching
