Ohio State Women's Hockey 2025-26

  • Total Revenue: $336,077,887
  • Total Expenses: $320,394,965
  • Surplus/Profit: Approximately $15.7 million
Figures from the article...

Big revenue figure for sure, but also a very large expense number. Probably the surplus/profit goes to the muzzinator's "astronomical" travel and recruting buget.
In a recent year Colgate had a $8 million in revenue, spent $35 million on athletics and under their capital plan somehow managed to build a $40 million rink a decade ago.

Certainly OSU is only one example, but it is hard to understand the greed that exists where no matter how much money there is, for some people/issues…there is none.

Hadn’t been to Columbus in a couple years but was there recently. The construction and growth not just in the past 20 years but literally in the past 5 years is incredible. It remains hard to believe that a new rink hasn’t made the list.

I think we are never supposed to give up hope, so I will once again renew my hope that the new President builds them a rink.

Muzerall, like Johnson, will leave difficult (albeit different) shoes to fill when she retires. The program success most likely goes poof if the rink hasn’t changed by the time she leaves.

When her time is done I will float the idea to her of leaving her bedazzled spike heels in the trophy case. They'll be more popular than Dorothy's ruby slippers! 😁

Popular, but given Dorothy's slippers went for $32.5M and tOSU still plays in a ... arena with "charm", I would guess they'll never be more valuable.

Something that boggles my mind on the rink.
OSU athletics revenue was 336 million last year. A Colgate like rink in 2026 dollars is about 60 million. Not even 20% of annual OSU athletic revenue. Most of us, our house costs more than 20% of our annual income!

Colgate built their rink 10 years ago for $40 million. $8 million annual revenue for their athletics department from what I see.

Columbus is notorious for needing more rinks in general. If money is the problem (eye roll) I wonder what the financials would look like on building a decent rink like a Colgate, letting OSU be the main tenant and then just run it as a for profit rink selling ice to the community.
One thing to keep in mind is that Ohio State generates a lot more revenue than this. Their trips to the College Football Playoff have large payouts, and the Big 10's TV contracts depend on them and about four other schools (Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, and USC). The rest of the money gets distributed to the other Big 10 schools.

I would bet that, in the not too distant future, those five schools, and some of those in other conferences, are going to decide that they don't need to share that revenue with the programs that don't generate that cash. Minnesota and Wisconsin need to be preparing for life after their athletic budgets crater, but they keep spending as if the expect the gravy train to continue forever.

You can't put a price on sentimental value.
Brad Frost liked the idea when I mentioned it to him today.

I am late on this but the Buckeyes advanced to the National Title Game tomorrow with a dominating 5-0 win over Northeastern. Ohio State got off to a slow start, but once they got rolling, it was game-over. The Buckeyes lit the lamp four times in the first period with three of those goals coming in the last 3:27 of the period to take a commanding lead. Scoring for Ohio State were Joy Dunne, Kaia Malachino, Sanni Vanhanen, and Emma Peschel. Neither team scored in the middle frame. Sara Swiderski scored in the third period to put the Bucks up 5-0 and that is how the game ended. Ohio State outshot the Huskies 42-15 in this one. Hailey MacLeod stopped all 15 shots she faced to get the win. Lisa Jonsson got the start in net for Northeastern and stopped 37 of the 42 shots she faced in the loss. Northeastern ends a great season with a Hockey East Title and an appearance in the Frozen Four. Ohio State will take on Wisconsin tomorrow for the National Title as the Badgers defeated Penn State 4-3 in overtime.

Here's a cut & paste of interest.

On March 19, 2026, Ohio State announced a new five-year contract extension for women's hockey head coach Nadine Muzerall, extending her tenure through the 2033-34 season.
The Lantern +1
Key Details on Salary and Contract (as of March 2026):

  • Previous Salary: Under her 2021 deal, Muzerall had an annual base salary of $250,000, with additional supplemental compensation for championship performances.
  • Recent Salary Data: Public records indicated a base salary/rate of $397,512.50 for the 2025-26 period.
  • New Deal Terms: While specific salary figures for the new 2026–2034 contract were not immediately fully disclosed, the extension ensures her retention as one of the top coaches in NCAA women's hockey following two national championships (2022, 2024) and six consecutive Frozen Four appearances.
  • Bonus Structure: Her contract previously included significant incentives, such as 8.5% of her base salary for conference titles/Frozen Four appearances and 17% for national championships.

Hello from State College, PA. It was great seeing osualum86, Mrs.86 & Hockey Buckeye at Pegula on Friday.

Great pair of games on Friday, of course. The tourney opened with the dynamic Buckeye win over Northeastern. Next came the heroic upset bid by the Nittany Lions’ fans & players. They almost pulled it off.

So it’s on to the Final. Here’s to hoping for an epic battle between the top two teams. Let’s Go Bucks!
