Ohio State Women's Hockey 2025-26

The scoring spread was impressive, I must say. I keep hoping for a drop-off, but it looks like it's not happening.
Having now seen them in person at tonight's home opener, our first-years are amazing. Coach has had some great recruiting classes, but this one might be her best recruiting class ever here at tOSU.

Ohio State scored three goals in the first five minutes of tonight's game against the Bemidji State Beavers and never looked back. Scoring early for the Bucks were Sanni Vanhanen, Jocelyn Amos, and Sloane Matthews. Jocelyn Amos would get her second goal of the night later in the first period to send the home team into the first intermission with a 4-0 lead. Ohio State would get goals from Jordyn Petrie and Sara Swiderski to give the Buckeyes a 6-0 lead heading into the final intermission. Neither team found the back of the net in the final frame. Ohio State was dominant in the D-zone, holding the Beavers to 9 shots on goal for the game. The Buckeyes had 42 shots on goal. Buckeye backstop Hailey MacLeod stopped all nine shots she faced to get the win. Kaitlin Groess and Ava Hills combined to stop 36 of the 42 shots they faced for Bemidji. One other thing of note, the Buckeyes were without Joy Dunne and Emma Peschel in this one as they just returned from Team USA camp earlier tonight. The two teams will be back at it tomorrow with game time at 3:00 pm EST.

Final Score From Friday, October 10th
Ohio State 6
Bemidji State 0

Buckeye Women Were Great; Fan Forum Not So Much

Chrissie Hynde wasn't Pretending. OK, My City of Columbus isn't "gone." But two full seasons of Buckeye Women's Hockey Posts Are Gone. No '24 Title; No '25 Run. Ay, Oh, Way To Go Ohio.

I know this old news. Took a normal Summer Break. Learned of this development about a month ago. Had intended to resume posting. Instead, I've been gone from the Forum until now. Just very discouraged.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for civility in posting. And I was, in fact, getting pretty disgusted with how low the posts on USCHO were sinking. So I suppose something had to be done. But everyone's guilty, meat-axe everyone?

I do realize that USCHO never intended to permanently archive posts. After a period of years pass, you anticipate that your posts will be deleted. If you have some favorite posts, print hard copies for yourself. All understood. But you should be able to revisit posts from recent seasons. With that material now vaporized, I'm left with a strong feeling of "Why Bother."

For now, my only positive answer is the players and coaches have been so great, they deserve whatever small kudos I can give them. So I carry on.

Three Stars of the Game:
Opinions? Yes.
Fun? Not So Much.

Bemidji Honorable Mention: Senja Leeper
Strong, determined play by the Freshman from Chaska, MN. The Buckeyes never scored when Senja was on the ice.

Ohio State Honorable Mention: Hilda Svensson
Hilda's 9 Shots on Goal led all players.

#3 Star: (tie) Maxine Cimorani, Ohio State; Brooke Disher, Ohio State; and Sanni VanHanen, Ohio State
All were +3 for the game; the top +/- number posted Friday.

#2 Star: (tie) Sara Swiderski, Ohio State; and Mira Jungaker, Ohio State
The Dazzling 'D' Pair Delivered the best goal of the evening. Fine passing ultimately led to the successful Swiderski shot.

#1 Star: Jocelyn Amos
The four goal first period went a long way toward winning the game for OSU. Jocelyn bagged two of those goals, including the breakaway off a Bemidji turnover.

Next Stargazing: 3:00 PM Saturday for the Rematch.

Good story in The Lantern on the girls.

I'm all for civility in posting.
I'm sorry for your lost posts; I can imagine that you put a lot of time and effort into them. And not only your more formal write-ups, but the other posts around seasons to remember. IMO, the takeaway for all of us is to do better moving forward. None of us can control how other posters are going to behave and what lines they may cross. When things went up in smoke during the offseason, I thought of you and osualum86, and thought that you long-time fans and posters deserved better than some were treating the Buckeyes. Just because sins have been committed that shouldn't mean everyone should quit trying to be considerate. Post for the best example of your rivals, not the poorest.

It would be greatly appreciated if those who are not Ohio State fans to not come here and bring up the same subjects that made our original thread so toxic that the moderators felt compelled to delete the whole thing.

Got the sweep which is the best way to start conference play. Today we had 52 SOG and only scored twice but it was enough to secure the win. We had 95 total shots to Bemidji's 17

The Buckeyes held off a game Bemidji squad today by a final score of 2-1 to get the sweep. The Beavers took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal from Hailey Armstrong. Later in the period, Emma Peschel got the equalizer for Ohio State and the teams went into the first intermission tied at 1. Ohio State would take the lead on a goal from Hilda Svensson to take a 2-1 lead into the final intermission. Neither team could find the back of the net in the third period. The Buckeyes outshot the Beavers 52-10 in this one but could only manage two goals against Bemidji backstop Ava Hills, who stopped 50 of the 52 shots she faced in this one. Ohio State netminder Hailey MacLeod stopped 9 of the 10 shots she faced to get the win. Things will get much tougher for the Buckeyes as they travel to Minneapolis next weekend to take on the Gophers. The Beavers will travel to Mankato on 10/31-11/1 to take on Minnesota State.

Ps. Anyone know why Coach Muzerall was not at today's game? We're not the same team when she is not there.

ARM, I appreciate the kind words; and I'm sure osualum86 does as well.

I do agree that the goal should be to "post for the best example of your rivals."

I would, however, add that there comes a point where one can no longer participate in a forum, simply as a matter of honor & self-respect. As long as participants post in good faith, and are committed to posting truthfully, even vehement disagreements can be functional. But when threads degrade to the point where they become mostly trolling, lies and false rumors? Continuing to participate can be taken as acceptance or even endorsement of that which is totally unacceptable.

There is no doubt in my mind that some posters left the OSU threads for this reason. And it's highly likely that others were deterred from even starting out. Still others cut way back their posting for similar reasons. I was in the third camp. I'm now dipping my toes back into the water. We'll see.

As much as I hated losing two years of posts, I accept that the moderators had to act. And had to act while there was still something worth saving.

Final Score From Saturday, October 11th
Ohio State 2
Bemidji State 1

Sturdy Beaver Dam Impresses; Two Buckeye Tallies Prove To Be Just Enough

Over the years Bemidji Goalies have turned in many staunch performances in Columbus. Generally bolstered by determined, circle-the-wagons defenses. In the Minnesota Wild, the Bemidji namesake animal has been known to put up very sturdy dams. All of that held true on Saturday.

Three Stars of the Game: Decidedly Unofficial & Just For Fun

Bemidji Honorable Mention: (tie) Hailey Armstrong and Katie Johnson
Armstrong's early goal put the Buckeyes on notice: Earning the sweep was going to be no easy task. Receiving the puck from Morgan Smith, Johnson set up behind the Ohio State net. Katie's centering pass arrived right on time for Hailey; who in turn nailed the upper right hand corner.

Ohio State Honorable Mention: (Tie) Kassidy Carmichael and Leah Wicks
Kassidy & Leah each posted Secondary Assists in the rematch. Both represent what appears to be an excellent Freshman Class. Carmichael comes to us from Westford, MA; Leah hails from St. John's, Newfoundland. A warm Ohio State Welcome to both of you!

#3 Star: Emma Peschel, Ohio State
After almost a full period of frustration, Emma's goal pulled the Buckeyes even. Coming off a feed from Hilda Svensson -- see #1 Star -- Peschel launched a missile from left point that authoritatively entered the upper right hand corner of the Bemidji net.

#2 Star: Ava Hills, Bemidji State
On one level, 50 Saves on 52 Shots appears to say it all. But what about all of those rebound shots that never happened? Over and over again, Hills smothered loose pucks in the slot. Given the sustained Buckeye pressure, the shot total actually could have been quite a bit higher. And presumably some of those additional shots would have come from point blank range. A few more goals could very well have found the twine. But Ava Said No.

#1 Star: Hilda Svensson, Ohio State
Getting the Primary Assist on the Peschel Goal put Hilda in the mix for a Star. Scoring the GWG sealed the deal for the top spot.

Shooting from the point, Mira Jungaker hammered the puck towards the Beaver net. But the puck had a change of plans along the way. Svensson's nifty tip eluded Hills and gave the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead. Half the game remained; but there would be no further scoring.

Yet another member of the Freshman Class, Svensson is a native of Oskarshamn, Sweden. We're glad to have you, Hilda!

Next Stargazing: Ohio State Hosts St. Cloud State on October 24th & October 25.

Meanwhile... Minneapolis hosts Paul McCartney at U.S. Bank Stadium on Friday, October 17th. Gopher Football hosts The Nebraska Cornhuskers that same evening. But the real fun comes on October 18th & 19th at Ridder Arena: Buckeyes vs. Gophers in a Battle of WCHA Titans!

You realize that I created this thread, right?

PGB and Buckeye posters, welcome back! Hope you had a great summer.

PGB, Here’s one example of why your posts are so great. I have very very loosely followed Hailey Armstrong of Bemidji. She is one of three D1 players to come out of my hometown in 25 years. Never met her, but of course cheer for her. So she pops up in your recap and I check in only to see she is now wearing the C for Bemidji and has 6 goals on this young season. It is a grind to last 4 years of college hockey. Seems like she’s doing well. Way to go Hailey! And PGB…..

Hey Lindsay, Thanks for the compliment. Hope it's not too self-serving to "like" the post containing said compliment.

In all sincerity, your response is THE reason this is worth doing. The players in Women's D-1 don't get anywhere near the credit the deserve. Pushing the needle a tiny bit in the right direction is a just cause -- regardless of whether that player is friend or "foe."

A great and solid win for the Buckeyes today on the Gophers home ice but I think every Gopher will feel the refs favored us today, like when was the last time we were granted a penalty shot and Mira grabbed and threw a player to the ice and no call?
We'll definitely be facing a very pissed Minnesota team tomorrow and can't give them anything to capitalize on. Lastly MacLeod I feel played her best game to date as a Buckeye and is absolutely the reason for our win! 😁

Ohio State took down the 3rd-ranked Gophers earlier today by a final score of 4-1. Ohio State got a goal from Kassidy Carmichael to go up 1-0 at the first intermission. Ohio State would get a goal from Joy Dunne to go up 2-0 in the second period. Later in the period, Hilda Svensson was hauled down on a breakaway and scored on a penalty shot to give the Bucks a 3-0 lead heading into the final intermission. Minnesota got a goal from Madison Kaiser to make the score 3-1. Joy Dunne would get her second goal of the game on an empty-netter to make the final score 4-1. Ohio State outshot the Gophers 47-29 with Buckeye netminder Hailey MacLeod stopping 28 of the 29 shots she faced to get the win. Gopher goaltender Hannah Clark stopped 43 of the 46 shots she faced. The teams will conclude their series tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST.

*Correction* Jocelyn Amos was credited with the empty-net goal at the end of this one, not Joy Dunne.

A tough loss and I felt we were the better team but we did ourselves in and you can't do that against a team like Minnesota. MacLeod had the best game of her career yesterday and today seemed to be somewhere else and the penalties were the dagger as they were pretty needless. Crosschecking Murphy into the net after the whistle and it was definitely a freshman mistake getting a deserved major. Looking forward to the rematch im Columbus!

I think you'll find the major was when Laitinen was slammed into the boards going about 20mph. When Murphy was crosschecked into the f------ net, no penalty was called because WCHA refs collectively decided that any hit on Murphy is basically open season.

For all the shit you all and badger fans give us for Murphy, I've never seen such deplorable behavior from a team collectively. You can go watch the video of Baxter pinning Emma Kreisz to the ice at the end or Carmichael tackling Gracie Graham like a football defensive back. I saw it all, about 5 feet away from my seat along the glass.

Here's the video, clipped directly from the B1G+ stream.

I know there are a certain subset of Gopher fans who'd like to see Nadine back in maroon at some point. I'd be fine if we banned her from ever walking into Ridder Arena again.

You all should be ashamed of how this team played. Not just classless, but dangerous.

btw happy birthday, muzzy!!

I am not going to sugarcoat tonight. The wife and I were out doing errands and just came home and watched the game on BTN+. I am disturbed at today's performance, and it has nothing to do with the scoreboard. We got beat by the better team. Take the loss and move on. Don't start fights at the end of the game. Even Mrs. 86 said, "Coach needs to make some of our players do herbies at practice tomorrow." I don't know what got into our team, but that was the most undisciplined game I have seen us play in a very long time. The five-minute major was a legit call. I love our girls to death, but if you see a player's numbers, you don't slam them against the boards head-first. That is enough venting from me as I am sure no one feels worse than our team and coaching staff. Minnesota played a very good game today and deserved this win. I sincerely hope all their players that were shaken up will be alright. The Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Ohio State clawed back, but could never get closer than a two-goal deficit. The first-period Minnesota goals were scored by Anabella Fanale, Josefin Bouveng, and Ava Lindsay. Ohio State got a late first-period goal from Joy Dunne to make it 3-1 at the first intermission. Jamie Nelson scored the only goal of the second period to put the Gophers up 4-1 heading into the final intermission. Ohio State's Sanni Vanhanen scored early in the final frame to pull the Bucks within two at 4-2. Minnesota answered on a goal from Nelli Laitinen to make it 5-2. Ohio State answered on a goal from Jenna Raunio to make the score 5-3. The Gophers scored the game's final goal to make it 6-3 and that is how the game ended. Emma Kreisz scored that final goal for Minnesota. Ohio State outshot the Gophers 30-22. Buckeye goaltenders Hailey MacLeod and Genny Klein combined to stop 16 of the 22 shots they faced in the loss. Hannah Clark started in net for the Gophers and stopped 27 of the 30 shots she faced. Gonna be an interesting week of practice for Ohio State, and I am sure we will see a different team next weekend at home against St. Cloud for Alumni Weekend! Mrs. 86 and i will be there to cheer the team on, as always. Minnesota will head to Duluth to take on Minnesota-Duluth.
