Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

3 flukey goals for UM after two periods ...referring not to the actual goals themselves but to what occurred immediately prior to each of those scoring opportunities thereby creating said opportunities.

It's hard to be too artistic on choppy ice against a good-tackling team.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Team fought like hell... and then we'd let in a soft one... team fought like hell to tie it up then we're way out of position and the net, for another soft one..
3 weak gopher goals. I'm not trying to say they weren't the real deal cause they sure do count! just when you have the firepower they do... and you see tricklers going in it's frustrating.

It was nice to Raty have to work alittle I will say that. The MN D left some chances out there for us to capitolize on!

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Good one, although I noticed no clipping penalties.
This wasn't a flag-happy crew. You get what you get in the WCHA, and teams just have to try to play through it. It seems that one difference between the Buckeyes overall in the second half as opposed to the first is that Knapp isn't at quite the same level. Had she been locked in today, who knows what would have happened. Wasn't Noora's greatest game of her career either. These quick turnarounds don't always make for the best hockey.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

I was definitely entertained not always the best flowing hockey game but I couldn't think about looking away! Bozek is a really good, I really hope she surpasses the No Dak girl for Defensive scoring ;)
I know what Coach said last night and I agree. But I am **** proud of my Buckeyes today. I havent seen many teams that MN has played that they've felt the need to lay on the puck at the faceoff at the end of the game to run down time! Good Show girls.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Wasn't pretty and no matter what others say this team DID struggle this weekend. And honestly it might be good for them to have to face more adversity. It's never easy when you have a big target on your back and everybody is motivated to knock you off. Kudo's to the Gopher's for getting the job done anyway this weekend.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Plenty from officials for CD to advise on I think.
Plenty of questionable calls and non-calls both ways, so no yelling to be done today.

Surprised that Eeyore hasn't posted this on the message board, but he and I both agree that the game turned significantly when Kelly Terry and Julia McKinnon took the coincidental roughing minors 6 1/2 minutes into the second period. That just seemed to spark the Gophers, particularly during the resulting 4-on-4 but it carried over for the rest of the game.

We walked straight out of the arena, to the car and then US-23 North. I just got back to my parents' place.

Today was really two different games. The Gophers looked, by their standards at least, terrible for the first 27 minutes. The ice was the worst I've seen in a long time but they didn't make the adjustments and so a lot of passes misfired badly. Then the coincidental penalties were called and it was one of those moments where someone flipped a switch. They were outstanding for the rest of the second period and pretty good in the third, though there was still some sloppy defensive zone play.

In all I thought it was the weakest series we've played all year. The home series against North Dakota was really about taking dumb penalties. This was just sloppy. Give OSU credit, though. Minnesota made more mistakes than I can remember, but the Buckeyes were very good at turning those into good scoring opportunities. They were particularly effective getting someone all alone to Noora's left in order to generate shots.

I don't think there's anything in particular to worry about from this weekend. We don't have to play on that rink again this year and that will help a lot. Not seeing Ludwig again would be nice but I'm not counting on it.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

The Unofficial Three Stars are now available on the WCHA IV thread.

Not sure if I'm going to make to Minneapolis at the end of March for the coronation. Either way I'm glad I got a chance to see the heirs apparent play this weekend.
