Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

In any case, it's nice to see that Frost is running second only to Lucia, meaning the two hockey coaches have the two top vote totals.:)
Either you missed the totals for J. Robinson (wrestling) or there ahs been some crazy ballot-box stuffing going on in the last 15 minutes.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Oops, of course you're correct. Working way too quickly, I saw the hockey coaches were ahead of football and hoops and got excited.

Here's to you, Mr. Robinson!

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Looks like this is the week of the big upsets.

First, unranked NU upsets #3 ranked BU 4-1 and just minutes ago unranked Quinnipiac upsets #4 ranked Cornell 4-1 with Babstock scoring TWO empty netters!!! and Cornell only finally scoring with 56 seconds left in the game!

(Vigilanti with a great performance...apparently a sign in the rink proclaiming "Vigi's glove is more famous than OJ's!"...Hilarious!)

So, the lesson here is, OSU...there is hope!

I don't think OSU needed Quinnipiac to demonstrate anything. The Buckeyes are capable of beating the Gophers, and I'd think everyone on both benches is aware of that.

I'm wondering which would cause me to lose my voice faster... Multiple times singing the Rouser (i.e. many Gopher goals) or multiple times yelling at the officials (which I'm more likely to do if the Gophs are losing).

Note to PGB and OSUAlum -- I'll be hanging out at Buffalo Wild Wings on Lane Avenue and High Street around 5:15.

If my ears are correct, you've had plenty of practice at both over the years.

Being capable is one thing...being confident is another.

How confident can you be after losing 23 straight to someone? They'll have to change that confidence; the Bobcats can't do it for them.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Or, maybe they can. Let's give it a try:

Oh, mighty Bobcat, we invoke thy power; (spread incense)

and thy speed; (toss salt)

and most of all thy will, perseverance and determination. (juggle three eyes of newt)

Probably won't help, but it can't hurt.:D

That could be part of the problem - hard to get speed with the ice melting.:D

My thinking was simply that they are 2-5-1 in their last 8 games, not overly inspiring for them. But inspiration that sparks confidence can come from many sources including those that are quite unexpected, like maybe the two wins that I cited. But my post was more directed toward the OSU fans as opposed to the team. I certainly didn't think or assume that the team would hear about this before game time, if ever.

Although, if their coach is aware of these wins before game time what does he have to lose in mentioning it to them in an effort to attempt to insure that their brain cells are all aligned in the same direction?

The smallest sparks can create the largest fires.

Wish I could join you! Still stuck waiting for my ride (Mrs 86)! In regard to losing your voice, WCHA officiating has been less than stellar this season, so I am thinking you'll be more likely to lose your voice faster yelling at them (fingers crossed on that one)! :D

Exactly ... it goes back to the "we think we can win' mentality vs the "they can't beat us" mentality. The challenge for Coach Nate and our program will be to develop the latter mentality. We're not quite there yet, but we are making some progress.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Buckeyes fell tonight by a final score of 5-2. The Buckeyes played their hearts out and the deficit was 3-2 at the second intermission. The Gophers added two goals in the third period to put the game away. Great seeing CrazyDave and also got to meet Eeyore tonight! Game two is tomorrow at 1:00 at the OSU Ice Rink.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

If OSU can score like the best MN has faced (UND 2.25 goals/game avg vs MN) and defend like the best (UW 4.25 goals/game avg vs MN) they still loose by 2 .....
5-2 - OSU gave a good effort. Tough to play from behind to the Gophers.

I agree it was a good effort, and it is certainly an uphill battle trying to play catchup with a team like Minnesota! OTOH, I liked Coach Handrahan's postgame comments. He basically said there were no moral victories this time of year, that you either win and get points or you don't. If we are going to get to the point where we are in the top four on a regular basis, moral victories aren't going to cut it.

Of course one thing that's really disheartening is to fully climb the hill, only to fall part way back down the slope 4 minutes later. For further details, see the Unofficial Three Stars posted on the WCHA IV thread.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Crap video for me today. Missed both goals so far with frozen video stream. :(

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 2/8 - 2/9

Knapp should definitely have had that first one. She turned the "wrong" way but still had plenty of time to get to the far post but seemed to hesitate for some reason...bad play...should have been an easy one...as a result, it was for Bozek.

To dramatically increase your odds of scoring on Raty you need to get her moving from side to side then either go weak side/back door or fire it 2 or 3 hole.

Shame that there's no replay function, as I think I mentioned last week.
