Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Would you rather tell your fans that he had a season ending injury or that because of the way he was playing, he lost the job to a Sophomore?

I know the series at BG, Carlson started, Palmer backed up, Heeter stayed home. Maybe he got injured in the playoffs against BG. Would explain why he was the only Buckeye to remain on the bench during the little ruckus. Nor, do they mention that he got lit up in the few games he played for the national team.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Men's hockey goalie Joseph Palmer has signed a one-year American Hockey League contract with the Rockford IceHogs and will forego his senior year of eligibility with the Buckeyes.

Palmer, a native of Yorkville, N.Y., was a fourth-round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

"We wish Joe the best of luck," John Markell, Ohio State head coach, said. "He felt this was the right time in his hockey career to become a professional. He was a tremendous student-athlete for us and is close to graduating, with all intentions to complete his degree."

Palmer, a three-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes, was a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice as a communication major. He played in 68 games for the Scarlet and Gray, recording 25 wins, a 3.04 goals-against average and .889 save percentage, along with two shutouts. He was a member of Team USA at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship.

"Joe Palmer is another young goaltending prospect who will add some valuable depth to our goaltending position here in Rockford," Mark Bernard, general manager of minor league affiliations for the Blackhawks, said. "Goaltenders all mature at different rates and ages, and it will be a very exciting season for Joe as he begins his first as a professional. We plan to watch him closely and have him work with Developmental Goaltending Coach Wade Flaherty quite a bit."

Ill miss joe. I liked him alot he was a very nice person, but the writing was on the wall for him when Markell didnt put him in the regional game, he wasnt going to play much this season. Good Luck to Joe and for selfish reasons i would like to see him in the echl because our team in toledo is a blackhawk affiliate.

I liked Joe also. The Sat night game at BG, I sit 3 rows behind Palmer. He was fun to watch. He was talking smack to the BG student section, harassing the BG skaters on the ice and telling jokes to the officials. You can't say his playing time would be limited, the best goalie will play the most. All he needed to do is pass Carlson.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

TWO NEWBIES:
Jeff Micheal has been added to the roster, Mr. Emergency goalie, along with F Danny Dries.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

If I'm not mistaken, Dries has to redshirt/sit a year before he can play (even though he received his release). If he can keep his act together and actually mature during the year, he can be an asset. If he doesn't, he won't (or rather, shouldn't) get an opportunity to play. IMHO anyway.

I do think he has to sit out this year and agre if he can saty out of trouble should be a pretty good assest to this team next year.

Fun...Michigan legacy turned Buckeye. Makes you wonder why he was in NH to begin with.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Dries will sit out a year and has a chance to be a real asset for OSU. He came to UNH unproven, with an injury plagued and troubled USHL career, but was moved to the top line during winter break and made the most of it with a breakout second half. He is great at crashing the net and scoring "garbage goals." However, he found himself in trouble at UNH taking dumb penalties in big spots. He got into trouble off the ice a number of times, and was finally cut loose, so it will be interesting to see if he can mature enough to stay on the ice for the Buckeyes.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I believe in giving kids a second chance , but to sit out a whole season is not good for any player. I'm sure he can still practice with the team.

This kid will have alot of weight on his shoulders. He will have to prove himself this year and the next years to come. He will have to earn his respect and thrust back.

WELCOME KID and I hope you become a better person because of your off ice mistakes.

If OSU didn't take him , I'm sure another team would have.

This year should be interesting for him. Either it gives him an entire year in Columbus to find more trouble, or he takes advantage of it, works hard at practice and matures as a man. I'm hoping it's the latter, but time shall tell.
