Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth WCHA Playoffs 3/1 - 3/3

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth WCHA Playoffs 3/1 - 3/3

Watching that feed today, Blackbeard, it's not bad. Might be $8 well spent if we can hang on. Should be a very interesting third period. I look for an all-out onslaught from UMD. We'll see if the "Scarlet Scourge" (I actually like that, very creative) can hold them off.

Grapp is in net for the third. Black's lingering injury or Miller trying to spur the team on?

Your defense seems to keeping the 'Dogs to the outside. The smart money is starting to head toward your wicket. I'm hoping that that changes.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth WCHA Playoffs 3/1 - 3/3

OSU 3 - UMD 0 Final. SOG OSU 34 - UMD 21.

Only 3 shots on goal for UMD in the third! They now dust off their clubs.

Congratulations to the Scarlet Scourge...the best team on the ice both games.

Good luck next weekend.

Thanks, Blackbeard. Our kids really came to play this weekend and they were rewarded with a couple of wins against a tradition-rich program. Now that I checked out the video feed, I get all the posts about the guy mispronouncing Tina Hollowell's name (LOL)! The PA announcer didn't seem to have a problem with it, but the radio/video feed guy was sure struggling with it! We'll see what we can do next weekend against the Gophers. That will obviously be a tall task, but I like the way we played this weekend. Hopefully we can build off that and take our A game to Minneapolis next weekend!

Huge congratulations to all of the Buckeye players and coaches.

OSU's season record for games played in Duluth: 4 wins, 0 losses. Has anyone ever done that before against UMD?

That is an excellent question, and I would think the answer to it has to be, "No, Ohio State is the first team to win four games in a single season against UMD, in Duluth!"

Obviously, it has to be a year when UMD was the higher seed in the first round of the WCHA Tournament, despite having lost both games at home to that lower seeded team in the regular season.

ARM?

This is the first season that UMD has not advanced to the WCHA semis. Coincidentally, OSU also prevented Wisconsin from reaching the league semis for the first time with a road sweep back in 2010.

So Proud of my Lady Buckeyes!
I think it's obvious the coaching change has revitalized our program.

Could be that? or maybe UMD has fallen that far? UMD's record this year 14-16-4

Good luck next week against Minny. We'll see if you're right next week.

Given the Gopher's record this season I won't say it won't be a challenge but all you can do is give it your best effort and see where it all plays out.
Even if Minnesota sweeps and it's close games I'd say that still speaks positive about strides we're making.

The Buckeye's do come to play every game and will miss this years seniors. They had a big part in the second game against UMD. Be thankful you have another year with Knapp. She's been very good. We'll see what team shows up next weekend. Hopefully the team that struggled down the stretch.

Can't really wish them luck next weekend :)

I think with all the injuries this year, it played a huge part in UMD's 1st round exit. Wong was never at 100%, Cournroyer unable to play, Hickel not available, Black not at 100% and not to list the other gals where injuries were not disclosed. For UMD to be successful with this rather young group, they needed everyone in the line up and healthy.

All the best to the graduating players and team will do better next year!

lol! We understand about not wishing us luck. Thank you for your honest assessment of us.

Guess you were right about that "home ice disadvantage," huh?

I am really enjoying what Coach Handrahan is doing with our program and the way we are playing now. This is not a slight to Coach Barto as she brought in a lot of talent to OSU (recruiting certainly wasn't a problem for her), but Coach Handrahan appears to be doing more with our talent. Can't wait to see where we are at in another season or two when he has a couple more recruiting classes in here.

We will definitely miss the seniors, but our other classes are pretty good, so the cupboard won't be bare next season by any stretch. I also agree with you 100% on Chelsea Knapp in net. She is one of the reasons we have had success this season. I think she is one of the more underrated goalies in the league. As for next weekend, the team that struggled down the stretch didn't show up in Duluth, so I will be surprised if you see that team next weekend. Regardless of what happens next weekend, I don't think anyone can say we didn't make strides this season. We finished tied for 4th in the toughest league in the country and won a first-round playoff series on the road, something we had not done since the 2009-10 season. Clearly, our program is moving in the right direction, regardless of what happens next weekend against a team that no one has been able to beat. Having said that, you not wishing us luck is completely understandable. We played some inspired hockey in Duluth this weekend, and our seniors are not ready for their careers to be over. :D

Best part about this years team... no Divas :) Handrahan has the entire roster playing as one. I expect them to go into Minnesota and fight. I've had a ton of fun watching them this season!
Underclassmen have a lot of talent and have had some of the best leadership from this years seniors!

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth WCHA Playoffs 3/1 - 3/3

Wong was never at 100% ...
I think that was a huge issue right there. I saw her in the corridor after one of the games in Minneapolis, and her walk was about as unsmooth as my m-in-law after she had hip surgery. Have to salute Wong for gutting it out and continuing to play when it sure couldn't have been easy.

I expect them to go into Minnesota and fight.
I hope you don't mean literally! Get enough of that from a certain other WCHA school. ;)

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth WCHA Playoffs 3/1 - 3/3

Agreed Wong and the Bulldogs were unlike I've ever seen them... Not as much fight as I'm used to. It's hard to see these girls play through those injuries... I know nothing for sure but have read or heard rumblings
of hip trouble. No good. Wish her all the best for sure. And No... not literal fighting, I mean I think they're in a good spot to pull it together and give it a go next weekend! Uphill battle yes... But anything can happen its one game... (well one at a time!) I'm proud of the team and will back them all the way through!
