Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

I've often wondered what would have happened had Knight gone to OSU while Spooner wound up in Madison. Knight has scored better over the years, but she's always had better talent surrounding her than Spooner has. Knight has often been able to come in off the wing and have somebody like Lawler give her the puck just as she hits the circle. Spooner is often left to try to lug it 100 to 150 feet by herself. I've watched both plenty over the years, usually with hands partially over my eyes, not really wanting to see what I'm seeing. Oh, the horror! I still can't say who is better.

It will be interesting to see how each fares in her international career going forward.

Very fair commentary and assessment. I do think Spooner has had better talent than is generally assumed, but certainly not at the same level as UW. I would put the OSY talent the last 4 years or so a head of BSU and UND pre Lams and close to what UMD has had. So it isn't like Spooner is playing for Mankato or SCS. My personal assessment is that Knight has a better first couple of steps and shows more creativity inside the blue line. Spooner if very strong as a pwr forward especially when carrying the puck on the wing with a head of steam.

Okay so here's where I'm coming from, while I totally don't disagree that Knight is a international level player... as a fan, who makes you go "wow" when they take the ice?
Honestly Knight doesn't for me. She's a great player, just for me or maybe on her team not the "oh man did you see that play?" kind of player. Lams yes. From a canon of a shot to playmaking, puckhandling, amazing breakaway plays. Spooner is gonna go right over you. Just a power sort of thing. When you think the Defense has her... she puts the puck in their feet and goes right thru. She creates many of her own chances. While not a shabby team for Spooner, not Wisconsin by far that's evident in Knight being on the 2nd line. She's in a Darwitz, Wendell catagory for me.
