Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

Yeah yeah ARM, you're right. I'm only human.

Yeah, "Team Stuff". Beauty.

Skatefast and JosephPSchmoe, I would be steamed if I thought you were serious (haha). Instead, I am just chuckling because I know you are both joking. That's the thing I love about this forum. It's a bunch of great womens hockey fans talking 24/7/365 about the sport we love and those young ladies that we love and cheer wildly for, and let me tell ya, I am sorely going to miss the anticipated excitement when I see Natalie Spooner on a breakaway, knowing she is probably going to score. LOL ... I don't think you guys will miss that, but I will! :D Hey, and regardless of what happens in the next few weeks, here's to three or four WCHA teams in the NCAA Tournament, and the WCHA producing the National Champion AGAIN!

When Spooner gets a breakaway, I cringe and turn my head into the arm of the person next to me. And I don't wish her ill will, I just wish she wasn't so **** good when UMD has to play her.

And you're right about the WCHA thing... I would sincerely hope, as it was in the Men's National Championship game, that our leagues teams were pulling for whoever gets to go to the dance, especially if there is an Eastern team on the other side. I almost dropped over when I saw Sioux fans cheering for the 'Dogs.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

You know, if any of her teammates (specifically Laura McIntosh) had any compassion at all, they'd demand that Spooner stay home and recuperate this weekend. And they (specifically Laura McIntosh) would volunteer to stay with her to nurse her back to health. Be bigger than the game. Life isn't all about hockey. Do it for the team. That sort of stuff.

How am I doing, Skate?

Maybe Hokey would want to stay behind and help her teammate back to good health, too. (My fantasy continues... )

Alright Pgb, other OSU fans, how about my friend CanHockGuy, any thoughts on this series!

OSUalum- from the outer walls of the internet where CHG was banned by you-know-who, the king of the Women's Hockey thread.

I believe the series will be tight, as the top players will really fight it out. The key here will be the power play/penalty killing and goal tending. The team that comes through in the special teams department will win this series. A hot goalie won't hurt either. Good luck to all involved.

Once again, as is so common, spreading misinformation and lies. The "you-know-who" would be the administration / fan forum moderator. Happy to provide the facts. ;)

Skatefast, thanks for the information and the kind words about our kids. You can bet this dude will be pulling for the WCHA teams.

UMD takes game one by a final score of 4-3. Tough game for the Buckeyes as they fell behind in the second period and were not able to catch up. The Buckeyes will have to now win two in a row to move onto the WCHA Final Four. They can do it, but it will be a tall order on the road. If I am a UMD fan, I am hoping to end it tomorrow. Those game threes can be crap shoots. As a Buckeye fan, I believe our kids can win tomorrow and force a game three. Good luck to both teams, as well as injury-free games.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

UMD needs to take more shots. Four shots in the fourth period? Are you kidding? And they need to stay out of the box. Spooner (two power play goals tonight) has enough advantages without giving her one less player to work around. Harss needs to be a bit stronger in goal, too. Four goals is usually enough, but not against Ohio State. On the plus side for the Bulldogs, Jamie Kenyon continues to impress.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

I'd like to know where the OSU team buys their growth hormones...that is one tall team! They are also dangerous and are never out of a game. They've earned a lot of respect this year.

(I posted this in the DI Scores thread but meant to post it here)

A fun two game series for hockey fans!! A credit to both teams . . . hard fought, honest hockey. UMD did what they needed to do Saturday to close it out in two - Shut down Spooner and McIntosh. Have seen many a great D-1 player in their last game - Spooner and McIntosh are both right up there . . hope to see them again on team Canada!!!

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/24 - 2/25 - 2/26

After seeing Spooner play six times this season, she is, without a doubt, the best player in the WCHA. She could do things that were staggering. There is no player like her now that she is fit and getting some decent coaching. Wow.

Agree with you DD. Don't think any defender could handle her legally one on one. Has power, hands and speed. Tough combination to deal with.

Can't fully endorse this post.

I'm a big Natalie Spooner fan, and appreciate the kind words directed her way. Still, this is a little too generous. IMHO, Spoon is an All-WCHA first team player. But I'd say she fits in with the other first-teamers as a peer, as opposed to outshining them.

The coaching change was a fresh start for Natalie, and she certainly prospered under the new regime. But to the extent this is a "dig" directed at the previous coaches, I'll just dissent and leave it go at that.

Very fair as usual PGB. Spooner is a great player, but there are a lot of them in the WCHA as you point out.

The only other player in the WCHA see at her level.... is Decker from Wisco. Both HUGE game, momentum controllers.

You can't seriously ignore the Lams and Knight. It may be popular to knock Knight this year, but she has played Center while she is a natural wing and she played center on the 2nd line and moves back to the point on the PP for UW. Put her at wing and down low on the PP and she put up 25 more points this season. Spooner is great but she hasn't delivered on the team level at OSU with some pretty solid talent around her.

I've often wondered what would have happened had Knight gone to OSU while Spooner wound up in Madison. Knight has scored better over the years, but she's always had better talent surrounding her than Spooner has. Knight has often been able to come in off the wing and have somebody like Lawler give her the puck just as she hits the circle. Spooner is often left to try to lug it 100 to 150 feet by herself. I've watched both plenty over the years, usually with hands partially over my eyes, not really wanting to see what I'm seeing. Oh, the horror! I still can't say who is better.

It will be interesting to see how each fares in her international career going forward.
