Ohio State @ Minnesota 1/10 - 1/11

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota 1/10 - 1/11

Please tell me you're not one of those 55 year old guys who says right before 1 minute left in the period. How much time left and then thank you. Or who follow along with the band with the penalty and sieve chants. Hate those guys!!
And a great big raspberries to you too. :p

And by the way, I still have more than a decade and a half until I turn 55.

And those chants haven't changed since I was in the band. So there. Gotta love traditions! :D

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota 1/10 - 1/11

I am not sure what is mean't by the comment by PGB-ohio made regarding being upset when "losing to a heavy underdog" when I looked at the standings, it lists the game as a tie........
Then you checked your gut and you knew you lost.:p

I'm just passionate about all of these girls who play hockey. Watch many games and appreciate the effort needed to play at this level by ALL.
This. x10.

Nothing wrong with the rest of your post, but I liked the above passage especially well.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota 1/10 - 1/11

All is forgiven Eeyore. I'm just passionate about all of these girls who play hockey. Watch many games and appreciate the effort needed to play at this level by ALL. No one can be perfect all of the time and some make mistakes. Funny how it's hard to remember all the excellent plays after one mistake. This forum is for all to voice their opinions and I shouldn't have used the word idiot as you're entitled to your opinions.

Let's all enjoy the season and root for the WCHA to win it all again :)

WCHAFan, nicely done...

Why wouldn't one do all the things you listed? Are fans just to sit tight and polity clap when something happens?

Timothy, Timothy, Timothy. Really? Really? WOW!

Yes, Cheer, Scream, sing your fight song, bump chests, high five etc.

Adults yelling Sieve, Sieve Sieve and chanting players are are hacks and can't play hockey after a penalty and when introducing players saying who cares etc or that **** UND Sioux lady who does the Indian scream which i feel is EXTREMELY wrong considering people thought the name was derogatory is just CHILDISH and in POOR TASTE in my opinion.

Not everybody thought that the name was derogatory. I've watched many games at The Ralph and don't recall ever hearing said scream. Just curious...is that fan native?

I have no basis for an opinion on the UND fan; apparently she doesn't make it to Columbus. Otherwise, as a matter of taste, I agree with you.

But this is kind of a dicey area. Suppose a new "grown-up" fan shows up and joins in with the student chants. If you get in his face and tell him to act his age, it's not going to go well. It's pretty unlikely he'll redirect his energy to the age appropriate cheers. Maybe he'll be embarrassed and sit on his hands for the rest of the game. Or maybe he'll get angry and defensive. In either case, you've probably just made sure the guy's first game will be his last. Players do tap into crowd energy, even if it's not 100% positive. In most cases, discouraging that energy is a step in the wrong direction.

Again, I agree with you on what would be ideal. But in most cases like this I believe the wisest strategy is to lead by example, and leave it go at that. OK, you're allowed an occasional .

Last and least: I am a little puzzled by your reaction to the "How Much Time" thing. Other than the fact it's gotten a bit stale, that one's never bothered me.

I must compliment you on writing a such a comprehend-able sentence. You must have be so shaken up that I cheer with the students that your mind was blown. Anyway, we usually sit by the students @ UW games to give them extra volume and to hear some of the witty taunts they come up with. While the mature adults are politely clapping during the player intros, I"m helping sieve the goalie the whole time. It's AWESOME!

The only thing I have ever heard that was in poor taste (besides cheers containing swearing) at a hockey game was when some sue fans substitute "Sue" for "brave" in the national anthem. Totally classless.
