Ohio State Buckeyes 2023-24 The Muzzinator Gonna Muzzinate!!

The Muzzinator was not to happy with her all star team when the sinners scored the go-ahead goal to take a 3-2 lead...

No doubt! Wish I was better at reading lips, but yeah, you could tell she was not happy. I was not going to say this in my recap, but in the postgame interview, Coach alluded to us needing to play a full 60, which she didn't feel we did tonight. I hate losing as much as the next person, but all the goals this program has set for itself are still there. Hopefully the girls learn from this and move forward. My high school basketball coach once said after a loss that stopped a 15-game winning streak, "Forget your mistakes, but remember what they taught you." If any of us OSU fans expected a sweep at Wisconsin, we were probably being a tad unrealistic anyway. Wisconsin has a great team and they were not going to get swept at home on Senior Weekend. If anyone would have told me we were going to go 29-3 (26-2 WCHA) before the season started, I would have taken it in a heartbeat.

Good comment.

One lesson would be that when you start feeling invincible, you're not. Playing with passion and desperation is a better formula. Of course that's easy to type, and much tougher to do. Especially when a strong opponent is doing everything they can to knock you off your game.

Yup. From an OSU Fan perspective, you'd have taken this road split sight unseen. At the same time, failing to protect a two goal lead in a big game hurts a lot. Of course both teams had long stretches of game time that they'd like to have another try at.

We've all seen momentum swings before. But wow. Both teams experienced some of the highest highs and the lowest lows, all in a single game. Two nights in row. This weekend was an emotional roller coaster.

If anyone would have told me we were going to go 29-3 (26-2 WCHA) before the season started, I would have taken it in a heartbeat.
Absolutely. We're in an enviable position going into the post-season, and we've earned that enviable position. Onward.

but in the postgame interview, Coach alluded to us needing to play a full 60, which she didn't feel we did tonight.

Both teams learned that you can play solid for 59 minutes but in that 1 minute where you don't play great can lead to a loss. The first two goals you scored Friday were off horrific Wisconsin turnovers, bad decisions made in a split second. Wisconsin's second and third goals were scored in transition where obviously there was some bad decisions positionally in allowing those transitions to work out against you.

I do think overall that Tosu is the better team.

The sticking point for me was our disallowed goal because the ref lost sight of the puck but you had the exact same situation but the Wisconsin goal counted when there was no way the ref could see the puck beneath Thiele.

When was there a "disallowed goal"?

It was right in front of me in the second. The puck went into the net behind MacNaughton in the second, but several players had crashed into her before it happened and the ref waived it off immediately. And even none of the OSU players took issue with it.

On the replay I watched when I got home with O'Brien's goal (it was on the other end live) you could absolutely still see the puck behind Thiele's right pad and there was no major contact that would have changed the fact that everything was sliding backwards. The ref was right on top of the net to the point that he pointed directly downwards to signal goal.

Thiele never stopped moving. To have stopped or 'frozen' the puck, the goalie has to stop moving.

Based on the BTN Replay, the whistle clearly blew before the puck crossed the line. I was actually impressed that the audio in LaBahn could pick up the whistle so clearly.

The replay hasn't shown up on the BTN-Plus page for Saturday yet, at least not on my PC. Where are you seeing a replay?

I think the two teams are pretty evenly matched, despite our 3-1 record against the Badgers this season. We won an overtime game in Columbus. If that one goes the other way, the record vs UW is 2-2. One thing we have going for us this season is this is the deepest team we have ever had. Coach can send all four of our forward lines out there and get scoring from any of them. We are solid on the back end as well (Ds and goaltending). Gonna be a fun ride.

Wisconsin could put out a fourth line, too, if we could just get 12 of them healthy at the same time!

:-)

For those of us at the watch party there was no audio and if there was I'm pretty certain the background noise at the Block O would have drowned it out so we had no idea when the whistle blew. It's just bad luck on the quick whistle and didn't get the same when the puck was under Thiele.

I was watching the BTN Telecast live, at home. Unlike the watch party, I had the volume on.

The replay I'm referring to is just the brief segment shown immediately following the live action. Instant Replay; not replay of the full game.

OSU still dragging it’s feet on a new arena.

I wish a reporter would ask OSU what the current status is. It was a positive when they approved the architect spend of last year….but what’s the current status?

I think this a way bigger threat to Muzerall’s sustaining success than the covid eligibility getting used up. The rink is an embarrassing display of inequity. Everyone knows it. At a certain point the recruits will take a hard pass.

As for RMU, good luck to them in getting that state funding. I hope they succeed.

Well that hasn't hurt Coaches efforts in the last 8 years. Athletes come to play for her and the system that she put in place. Joy Dunne didn't come for a rink. Amos didn't come for a rink. Baxter didn't come for a rink. Next years class isn't coming for a rink and all the girls that came before didn't come for a rink. If thats what you want as an athlete then good luck. ELITE athletes want to become elite. I love our rink and all the great Buckeye fans that show up. All these beautiful rinks in college hockey and look at their programs ... it just shows what Muzerall has been able to build since arriving in 2017 way before covid.
