Ohio State 2026-27 The Natty WILL be ours!

Hockeybuckeye, it was good to see your wife at the game last night. She is in our thoughts and prayers! It was probably a good decision for her to sit today's game out with the football fiasco and the rain.

The Buckeyes completed the sweep of Wisconsin earlier today with a 5-3 victory. Unlike yesterday's game, there were five goals scored in the first period of this one. Cassie Hall opened the scoring for the Badgers to put them up 1-0. Ohio State would score the next three goals to go up 3-1. The Buckeye goals were scored by Sanni Vanhanen, Kaia Malachino, and Kate Viel. Wisconsin's Madelyn Kimbrel scored later in the first period to send the teams into the first intermission with Ohio State leading 3-2. Laney Potter scored early in the second period to tie things up at 3 and that is how the period ended. Hilda Svensson scored for Ohio State just ten seconds into the final period to put the Buckeyes up 4-3. Sanni Vanhanen added her second goal later in the period to make the final score 5-3. The Buckeyes outshot the Badgers in this one 34-25. Ohio State's Rowan Houweling stopped 22 of the 25 shots she faced to get the win. Ava McNaughton stopped 29 of the 34 shots she faced. Ohio State will travel to Minnesota next weekend to take on the Gophers. Wisconsin will return home to host Minnesota State next weekend.

Saturday Quick Take: More risk-taking; more offense. But ultimately another dominant 3rd Period leads to another Buckeye Win. Friday Shots? 19-3 OSU. Saturday Shots? 17-6 OSU. Not a bad recipe for a Sweep.

#3 Star: Laney Potter, Wisconsin
(The Dynamic Potter Quarterbacks The Badgers)

#2 Star: Hilda Svensson, Ohio State
(Another Day; Another GWG)

#1 Star: Sanni Vanhanen, Ohio State
(The Only Player With 2 Goals. Initial Tally Tied The Game 1-1. Wicked Good Tip Closed Out The Scoring.)

Bottom Line? Stressful Hockey Pleasure!

I'm usually in 100% agreement with Mr.PGB's assessment as it's objective and unbiased but personally I would give a special star to freshman goaltender Rowan Houweling. I thought she did an outstanding job given it was so early in her career as a Buckeye freshman and against the #1 Badgers in getting the sweep! She allowed a total of 4 goals in two games and some were very funky and others she facee shots even the most experienced goalie might have trouble with. I'm very optimistic on how she will continue to develop and could possibly be considered one of the top goaltenders nationally by her junior year.

I am interested to see how she will develop as well! As a Canadian, she did not play in the highly rated u22 Ontario league and opted to play at Shattuck. She made team Canada u18 but I believe she was looked over and people did not get to see her play much. If muzzy keeps giving her playing time she could become a real threat for the national team.

There's a lot of politics behind the scenes that influence rosters on both the Canadian and USA national teams. But with her being a Buckeye now Nadine with her influence will no doubt get her on one of the Canadian rosters.

Doesn’t look like Amos is having a good camp. She was on the bottom line in the game and didn’t do much… good chance ahead will not make the team. Maybe she is still injured? Doesn’t look like McDonald will make the team either. They have another game tomorrow so it will be interesting to see how that goes! gascon kraemer and tremblay are all going to make it. That is prob it from the college kids! Unless they throw a couple in the mix as the extra players.

Sorry to hear Amos isn't having the best camp, I would be surprised if McDonald made it only because she's a freshman and most likely needs a season under her belt with the Muzzinator to help her up her game.

Tremblay is a freshman and just turned 18 but she really turned heads at camp and is on the top line and practice PP units! Caitlin kraemer is on a top line as well. Sounds like Amos just wasn’t practicing well so they have her on a line with outwater and McDonald. I really expected Amos to make it! Unless they bring her as an extra forward? It will be interesting to see how she plays when she is back.
