Ohio State 2026-27 The Natty WILL be ours!

Dear Lord, I pray that the doctors and nurses are able to use their wonderful God-given talents to the best of their abilities to have the best outcome possible for a Hockeybuckeye's wife. We are thankful that he has been able to defeat cancer and we pray that she will be able to do the same. Surely hard times are ahead and we don't understand why these human calamities happen to us, but we must always take our needs to You in prayer.
Bless you Timothy!

Bless you Timothy!
Hopefully things are going well and the wheels are in motion to take care of this. My Dad was diagnosed with bladder/kidney cancer in December 2024 and he had a heart valve issue that wasn't really causing any outward issues but the urology cancer doc said he would not operate and remove the kidney until the heart valve was replaced. He got the valve replaced in February, then they couldn't get the kidney surgery in the scheduled until late April. What a fiasco! Imagine living 5 months knowing this kidney had to come out and the medical folks had no urgency at all. Talk about taking it to the Lord in prayer. Sadly he died in July 2025 of sepsis. No one could tell us how he got it, but the we think the chemo made him so weak that his body with powerful drugs just couldn't beat the nasties that normally you could. He was 85. Anyway, I pray the word urgency in your wife's medical staff's vocab.

Are you considering going to the game at Lambeau or will that be too much? You can cheer for UW to beat UM on the men's side.

I'm so sorry about your dad. 🙏 The medical world can be so frustrating. My first wife died from lung cancer that moved to her brain and her oncologist didn't do any of the monitoring and follow ups like Ohio State's cancer hospital did for me. Also an Ohio State men's hockey alum from Canada, Gene Popiel died from cancer because he couldn't get timely treatment in Canada's socialized healthcare systems. Gene was Wayne Gretzky's greatest mentor.
Unfortunately I won't be going to Lambeau, long driving distances are becoming more challenging for us with our age and obviously we can't foresee where the wife will be health wise or how her situation will impact us financially. It may really mess me up funding our new arena! 😉

The Buckeyes got the 2-1OT win on a beautiful set play and dominated SOG 44-20 but the shot placement looked rusty.
I guess we'll see if they look more dominate tomorrow.

I have been off this forum for too long. Nice to see the "usual suspects" back. ;) My summer break consisted of the usual; going to see my friends' classic rock bands, spending time with Family, and made it to some sprint car races. Sprint cars, IYKYK. Wait, I will help you out.

Ah, there was a game tonight, the opener for my Buckeyes. Ohio State outlasted 4th-ranked Penn State in overtime 2-1 in a game that I will just say, it wasn't pretty, and leave it at that. I will not repeat the things I was yelling at the monitor while watching on BTN+. "Could you stop yelling, I have a headache." "Sorry, Mrs. 86. I'll simmer down." Neither team scored in the opening frame. Kaia Malachino got Ohio State on the board in the middle of the second period and the teams went into the second intermission with the Bucks leading 1-0. Penn State wasted no time getting on the board in the third period on a goal from Grace Outwater to tie things up at 1. Outwater's goal was scored just 12 seconds into the third period. Neither team could light the lamp the rest of the period, so extra time was needed, 46 seconds to be exact. That was when Joy Dunne buried the game-winner to give Ohio State a hard-fought 2-1 win on the road. Ohio State outshot Penn State 46-21 in this one. Both goaltenders were outstanding. Penn State's Morgan Stickney stopped 44 of the 46 shots she faced in the loss. Genny Klein got the start in net for Ohio State and stopped 20 of the 21 shots she faced in the win. The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow at 4:00 pm EST.

Ohio State completed a road sweep of Penn State in a battle of two top-five teams by a final score of 2-1. Penn State opened the scoring on a goal from Grace Outwater to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead. The Buckeyes would get a goal from Hilda Svensson later in the period to tie things up at 1 heading into the first intermission. Ohio State's Rylee Bartz scored late in the second period to send the visitors into the final intermission with a 2-1 lead. Neither team could find the back of the net in the final frame, so the game ended with Ohio State winning 2-1. Ohio State outshot Penn State in this one, 33-12. Rowan Houweling started in net for Ohio State and stopped 11 of the 12 shots she faced to get the win. Madison Campbell got the start in net for the Nittany Lions and stopped 31 of the 33 shots she faced. Ohio State will travel to St. Thomas next weekend for a pair of games. Penn State will host a series against Robert Morris.

I was surprised that Houweling got the start over Kressin. Kressin seems to have falling out of favor even though she had a prefect record with good stats last year. Hasn't seen the net since last January.

My guess is that Rowan was not going to OSU as a third goalie. I am sure practices helped too.

Ohio State took game one against St. Thomas earlier tonight by a final score of 5-2. After a scoreless first period, the Buckeyes got goals from Joy Dunne and Hilda Svensson to take a 2-0 lead. Sydney Bryant would answer for the Tommies to cut the deficit to 2-1. Ohio State would take a 4-1 lead into the final intermission on goals from Kate Viel and Joy Dunne. Sanni Vanhanen scored for Ohio State in the final period to give the Buckeyes a 5-1 lead. St. Thomas would get a late goal from Cara Sajevic to close out the scoring. Ohio State outshot St. Thomas in this one 40-19. Taylor Kressin started in net for Ohio State and stopped 17 of the 19 shots she faced in the win. Dani Strom started in net for the Tommies and stopped 35 of the 40 shots she faced. The two teams will be back at it tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST.

Ohio State completed a road sweep against St. Thomas by a final score of 5-2. Jenna Raunio and Joy Dunne scored for Ohio State in the opening frame to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Ohio State came out firing in the second period with goals from Hilda Svensson and Maxine Cimoroni to take a 4-0 lead. Julianna Gazdik got the Tommies on the board later in the period and the teams skated into the final intermission with Ohio State leading 4-1. Whitney Horton scored for the Tommies late in the third period to bring them to within a couple goals at 4-2. Hilda Svensson added an empty-net goal to wrap up the scoring. Ohio State outshot the Tommies in this one 32-20. Rowan Houweling got the start in net for Ohio State and stopped 18 of the 20 shots she faced to get the win. Dani Strom and Daniela Novakova combined to stop 27 of the 32 shots they faced. Ohio State will finally return home and face top-ranked Wisconsin next weekend. St.Thomas will travel to Duluth to take on the UMD Bulldogs.

Hockeybuckeye, it's my first time in this thread in weeks and I'm sorry to learn of your wife's condition. I pray that all goes well and she joins you on the list of cancer survivors.

Thank you! Unfortunately I have too much experience with cancer as I'm a cancer survivor and my first wife, my mother and an uncle all died from cancer.

Looking ahead to next weekend it's Alumni Weekend and we host Wisconsin for our first series of the season against them. My only concern is how many penalties we've been taking. I can't speak for the badgers this season but typically they are very good on the PP and we just can't give them those opportunities.
My only real complaint is on Saturday our game is at 3:00 and the home football game across the street is just after 4:00 so getting to the rink and parking will be a nightmare, especially trying to get close enough that my wife can mange the walk. I just don't understand why we don't do what other teams in the conference do to avoid conflicts with home football games with a Thursday-Friday or Friday-Sunday games?
