Working on making it down not expecting much of a crowd.
OSU marketing says they are also bring in some groups for the exhibition game as well so attendance should be up from what we had at Chiller North last year. You can always get more, especially students to the Schott than having to travel to the next county.

Looks like the Buckeyes will have a tough start next weekend when they travel to Minnesota to play UMD Bulldogs , Duluth. This should be a good weekend series to see what there made of. They will get a good taste of BIG TEN hockey. The style of play is alot tougher.

Looks like I might have to take the drive across the border from Canada to watch this series. Eh. " GO BUCKEYES GO. "

Agreed, a hard series so early in the season although I don't know how many Duluth lost from last year we looked like a much more seasoned group definately playing more as a team than at last years exhibition. No announcement yet on any type of internet broadcast available and this early there may not be but one can hope as I'd really like to watch this one.

you do know the BI6 doesn't start until next year right? If anything we are getting a taste of CCHA hockey.

It was an odd choice of words, but I'm assuming he just meant to express respect for UMD as a high caliber opponent. Obviously UMD is a future member of the National, not the Big Ten. Equally obviously neither of the new leagues start play until next season.

That should mean that they are only missing one more weekend after the first two - and my bet would be they miss the weekend in Fairbanks in January.:)

Was pretty impressed with Sam Jardine yesterday and the same for Anthony Greco. Greco seemed remarkably quick to me, not blindingly fast, just quick in his first step or two. He also seemed to get his shot off quicker than I what I'm used to. Think I'm going to enjoy watching those two for a few years.

Yea the 2 at Fairbanks were the ones i thougth they were going to miss. Nice to hear that the team may have more speed than the past couple years.

Don't know if they are faster, but the quickness with which Greco shot the puck was what impressed me. Quick movements and quick release - at least in this game.

Where does rookie goalie Collin Olson fit into the picture this year for you guys? The reason I ask is I graduated from high school with his mom here in Jamestown,ND and I have been following his progress the last 3 years. Thanks.

He played the second half of the exhibition game - gave up one goal. Hjelle is the starter until he falters. Olson will get every chance to compete for the job. Next year he will have to battle a Canadian kid (Matt Tomkins) but should have the early edge. OSU also has a second first year goalie in Peter Megariotis from southern California just in case.

Hard to say how good Olson looked against Waterloo. The goal he gave up was just after coming off the bench cold, and after that OSU just about shut down Waterloo's offense. Gave them 2 shots in the third period.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

some good news from the official site.....

COLUMBUS, Ohio - RJ Umberger, an All-American at Ohio State who has spent the last seven seasons playing in the NHL, including the last four with the Columbus Blue Jackets, has joined the Ohio State men's hockey staff as its volunteer coach, Mark Osiecki, Ohio State head coach, announced.

"With the NHL lockout in full force, I am looking forward to being more connected to the Ohio State hockey program once again," Umberger said. "I'm excited to spend time on the ice with the players keeping myself in shape and hopefully offering any advice and help I can to them."

Umberger was a three-year letterwinner with the Buckeyes from 2001-03 and ended his career with 129 points. He was a JOFA West Second Team All-American as a junior in 2003 after posting career highs of 26 goals, 27 assists and 53 points. He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award and earned first team All-CCHA accolades. Umberger was the 2001 CCHA Rookie of the Year after joining the Ohio State program from the U.S. National Team Development Program. He played in the World Junior Championship in 2001 and '02.

"Having an alum of RJ's stature around our program will be great," Osiecki, now in his third year with the Buckeyes, said. "As an All-American in college he knows what it takes to be successful at the collegiate level and he has carried that on to a successful professional career. For him to be able to share that with our players will really help their development."

An Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten choice, Umberger continued to work toward his degree after turning professional and earned his bachelor's degree in marketing in Spring 2011.

Umberger has skated in 551 career NHL games and has scored 143 goals, adding 171 assists for 314 points. He spent his first three seasons in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers before he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2008-09. He was the first former Ohio State player to play in the NHL with the Blue Jackets. Umberger, an alternate captain for the CBJ, played in 77 games and had 20 goals, 20 assists and 40 points in 2011-12.

After his freshman season at Ohio State, Umberger was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. He was selected No. 16 overall, the highest draft pick in Buckeye history.

The Buckeyes open the regular season with two road games at non-conference foe Minnesota Duluth this weekend. The teams will meet at 8:07 p.m. ET Friday and Saturday in Duluth, Minn.

Thanks for the info. I will be following him this year and the years to follow. Good luck with the Buckeyes this year.

Coach said during his ccha presser that the goalies would probably split time early in the season so i would expect to see him in 1 of the games this weekend.

Great news about RJ joining the staff-at least for now. Go Lockout go!

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

1923 tickets were given out for last Sunday's game but figures were not available for how many of them showed. Still not a bad showing and I'd estimate at least a crowd of 1500 and it might have matched what we were drawing for a regular season game at the end of Markel's tenure.
