Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

What a game tonight. It wasnt a perfect game by any means but a W on the road is always good. This team is coming along very nicely right now, they seem to be getting better and better each game. I thought the PP looked pretty good they just couldnt seem to bury one. The do need to move a little more to get a shooting lane. The forecheck was very good tonight and caused some timely turnovers and also led to the winning goal. I thought they were very sloppyy at times in the defensive zone and most of Michigan state's pressure came after turnovers. Once again Brady was outstanding getting his 3rd shutout and 2nd in his last 3 starts. Its time to end the rotation and turn this thing over to him. Now that they have 3 points on the weekend anything tomorrow is a bonus. I also think they got both waved off goals correct.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Was in Oxford at Miami tonight on personal business and missed seeing the game which was a disappointment but now we're in a 3 way tie for first depending on the outcome of Miami at Alaska where a Miami win would put them ahead by a point.
Let's see if OZ keeps Brady in net tomorrow and gets the sweep. After tomorrow only conference games left before the break is hosting Miami so lets get those points!

5K would be too small IMHO, but as I said earlier, I will be so happy to get a new hockey-only facility that I probably won't care if we short-sell potential capacity.

5k probably is too small, however, knowing that they have VCA and NWA available for premier games, it might not be the end of the world if they build small. I think 7-10k would be about perfect.

Having been here since Columbus' first rink, a open weather only affair with a single light pole on what now is the lawn of Chemical Abstracts to having an NHL team, in my personal perspective of seeing the entire evolution of hockey here in Columbus I think closer to 10,000 would be realistic given the growth of the sport. Central Ohio is still expanding and if our program is successful, within the next 10 years we could fill it on a regular basis. We sell 10,000 already for big games. Practically no one ever thought they'd fill the Horseshoe when they built it.

Wow what a game Dzingel buries one late 1-0 win. Credit to Szech for making the rush. Bucks were flying after the 1st period. Nice to ensure 3 on friday

WOW , nice WIN for the Buckeyes. It was a battle of the Goalies & I'm glad we had Hjelle in the net for the win. Like I said before it's time to give Senior Goalie Brady Hjelle the starting job in the CCHA games.

Just a reminder that the game Saturday night is going to be on Buckeye Vision. THUMBS UP to Buckeye Vision for making sure us Buckeye fans get the game. :)

Agreed; over the years I've tossed around a figure of 7000 - 8000 seats.

But what happens if the first edition of the new building comes in at 5,000 - 6,000? Well, the building would be mostly full, most of the time. For a number of games it could be a genuinely tough ticket. Michigan games would likely be played at the Schott. Hardly the end of the world!

One option is to build small up front, but allow room for relatively easy future expansion. For example, the seating could be initially configured as a horseshoe, with the possibility of filling in the open end later. (wonder where he got that idea.;)) Another possibility would be to leave room for a future balcony.

I know an awful lot has to happen before the first spade of dirt is turned. But it's certainly exciting to ponder the possibilities.

Absolutely! Good things really do happen when you go to the net.

A sweep on the road for 6 points! And as speculated by most on this thread Brady stayed in net tonight.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Miami plays the Lakers next weekend while we play non conference Robert Morris and yet again over break in their tournament. Thanks Johnnie! At least this is the last inherited schedule Oz has to deal with.
Miami can extend their lead next weekend but a home series sweep against them in 2 weeks can reel them back in. It will make for an exciting end to the first half of the season. I hear OSU has some things up their sleeves to try to pack em in for that series!

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

So far locked in a tie with ND for 2nd guaranteed, if Miami loses in Alaska tonight upgrade it to a tie for 1st!

I've always said 8,000 - 9,000, but at this point, as long as us hockey fans have waited for this, I would be fine with 7,000. I would be ecstatic if OSU actually has the foresight to build a 10,000 seat arena for hockey. My dream scenario would be two arenas like Minnesota has ... 3,000 for the women and 9,000 for the men.

Great job Bucks road sweep!! It was PB and Hjelle time :-)

Great job BUCKEYE TEAM. The Bucks are coming home with a six pack , ( 6 points. ) :) I had to take the broom out of the closet for alittle SWEEP this weekend. Thumbs up to Coach OZ for playing the Senior goalie Hjelle both nights. Go Bucks Go.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

tonight was not pretty by no means but getting six points is a great weekend. Brady was great tonight as he has been all season. He also has been square to shooters almost every time down the ice all year long. like I said last night this team is coming along piece by piece and the confidence is growing by the shift. Lets get this week over and get to the Miami series.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

It will be interesting to see who's in goal against Robert Morris. Tend to think that Olson gets one of the two games (probably Saturday). Still have to keep him involved and fresh. Would think Hjelle gets both Miami games and they split the New Year's games in PGH.

I think in order to keep Olson's development on course he'll keep the rotation for non conference games.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

YEP , I hope Coach OZ gives the Rookie Olson one game this coming weekend & rest Goalie Hjelle one game this non-CCHA weekend. Eh.
Brady will probably be in net as usual Friday I'd assume. Not only does he wish to develop Olson but he needs to keep Brady sharp and in his game rythem.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

I think Coach Oz should give Olson a start this weekend since it's a non-league series. Olson is going to be the guy next season so we need to get him some work. Start Hjelle Friday and get a win at home, then get Olson some work on the road Saturday. Honestly guys, I am still buzzing over the sweep at Michigan State. I realize Michigan State has a young team and a new goalie, but anytime you get six points on the road in this league, you have to be happy! And as others have alluded to, I really like the way this team is coming together. Hopefully they can keep it going!
