On the darker side we lost another player in Lippincott. If he's out for awhile let me be the first to ask - "any one on this board have eligibility left?" :D

What happened to forward Lippincott? The forwards are sure taking a beating early in the season. Good time for the rookies to step in and see what they got. Eh. Go Bucks Go.

Blow to the head at 54 seconds in the first period. Did not return to the game and Oz made a remark after the game that he (Lippincott) wasn't sure where he was once they helped him off the ice.

Didn't see the hit as I hadn't logged into the game yet. But boy does losing Thurber really change the offence for the Wildcats. Not sure if he is in the lineup tonight, but without him I don't give them much chance without Thurber.

WIN , yes it was good to see the boys control the game & get the win. I sure liked how Goalie Brady Hjelle played again. He's sharp & very aggresive t0 find & cover the pucks. I hope Coach OZ starts him again on Saturday night so we can get the sweep and 6 points.

I agree with this. I think Olson is going to be a great goalie in time, but to get wins NOW, I think you have to go with Hjelle. He had the one tough outing against UMD, but other than that, he has been pretty solid.

Whatever coach said this week seemed to make a difference. 6 pt weekend!

6 point weekends have been few and far between in the last calendar year and that just makes this weekend all the more sweeter. Off to the UP to face the Lakers next weekend.

Last 6 point weekend was Dec 1 & 2 last season against Lake State - just before the wheels started coming off.

I thought it very interesting last night that the refs were most likely scolded by the CCHA yesterday when the league added the game suspension to Thurber for Friday night's hit on Lippincott. Last night they wasted no time in giving the game DQ (and thus a game suspension) to the Northern player for the hit on Alex S. (please don't ask me to spell his name early on Sunday).

I wasnt at either game this weekend but i always thought that they refs are very hesitate to give the DQ to any player.

Either NMU is really not good, or the buckeyes showed a huge improvement in one week. It was like watching an entirely different team, especially on the powerplay. The hit on Lippincott on Friday was brutal, but I saw him walking around the concourse on Saturday so at least he's up an at 'em. The hit on Szczechura was equally as bad, knocked the mask right of his helmet! Either way, it was nice to see the scoring pick up. Both goalies have looked promising. I'd say at this point Hjelle is ahead of Olson. I like being able to get them both experience, but if we get into some must wins, he has to go with Hjelle.

Happy with the 6 point weekend. We're right in the thick of things in the CCHA which is right where we need to be.

No excuses, Northern got straight up beat this weekend, but it's hard to win when you spend half the game in the penalty box and three of your best players aren't able to play.

Just wondering, I didn't see the head contact's either night, but were they game DQ worthy?

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

Most had headed for the exits last night when the last of the drama played out. Final horn had sounded and things started getting chippy in the corner. A Northern player started a charge aimed right at Crane and he stuck his arms straight out defending himself and hit the gut in the helmet knocking him to the ice. Northern's coach came out screaming at the ref's to do something and they called a 5 min major contact to the head and game misconduct on Crane. He was only defending himeself and how does one get a game misconduct when the games over? I'm sure the video will show the facts. I thought the zebras did pretty well until that.

I thought they were. The one on the second night was just in front of me and it ripped the cage off of Alex S.'s helmet.

I did notice the Northern player skate close to Crane and bump him. The Reffs can call a penalty before & after the game. Alot of times they will call it during the handshake line if someone hit another person. A few Northern players were chippy. Crane is known to get under the skin of the visiting teams. LOL.

The Goalie situation is more about Coach OZ sharing Hjelle & Olson because Hjelle is the Senior & Olson is the rookie but the future goalie for the next 3 years. He's killing two birds with one stone!!! LOL. It's just sad that Hjelle can't have the spotlight more often as the Senior tender. My guess is , you just might See Coach OZ rotate both all season or until the playoffs. GO BUCKS GO. Eh.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

I would not be surprised.
Rough stuff almost broke out in the handshake line as well.

Crane was last in line and the first NMU player he met gave him a shot and Crane was skated to the bench to avoid further conflict. Seems the NMU players were upset Crane was skating into the zone up 2 with time winding down. Thats just my guess. He did take a hip check first before retaliating.

Trying not to be a homer I would say yes. The Friday night one looked worse than the Saturday hit. The hit on Friday night was pretty vicious, right at center ice and the Ohio State player definitely got a concussion as a result, he wasn't even able to stand.

On Saturday the play didn't seem quite as bad, but it did result in the mask coming off of the helmet, and those don't pop off easily so it must have been quite the blow.
