Re: Offseason Fun: How Many DII/DIII Teams Have You Seen In Person?

Hope everyone's having a great summer!

GREAT thread and great pain at the same time.

As Father of one of the most traveled goalies in D3 (masterfully chronicled by Matthew Webb in "Have Pads, Will Travel"), the realization of how many colleges and how many miles while he was at UMass. Boston, followed by the plane tickets, hotels and car rentals while he played for Gustavus is PAINFUL! But in the end... I'd do it again.

Great post CV998........joining the numerous posts on this thread from great long-term fans of the D III game.

As a relatively new poster I'd be curious to know from you and others that have enjoyed seeing so many teams....if there are any teams that you have never had the opportunity to see in person.....that you wish you had ?

Thanks NorthernLite... after posting it dawned on me that I have seen all of these teams in a matter of four years. Scary hugh?

Teams I haven't seen... well there's probably twenty or so left, hmmmm Adrian, yeah definitely Adrian. I would travel next year to watch Adrian play a Gustavus, Stout, Norwich or Plattsburgh caliber team. I'm sure many others would as well. I'd also like to see Oswego play Plattsburgh, from what I can tell the games sound pretty exciting.

Also, how could I forget driving nine hours for my Son to tour Lebanon Valley and the next day we watched them play (56 teams), against who (57), can't remember, could research it but don't feel like it. All I remember are these enormous Hershey kisses I bought (a couple of weeks before Valentines Day... big hit with the ladies) and reading a plaque at the rink which said either Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in one game.

Trust me, I scored more with the basketball size kisses!!

Unfortunately not nearly as exciting as they used to be...

Especially back in the Romney and old Stafford days.

Re: Offseason Fun: How Many DII/DIII Teams Have You Seen In Person?

If we're adding former d2-d3 teams to the list, I have to add:

RIT
Canisius
Mercyhurst
Scranton
St. Bona
Union
U. Buffalo
North Adams St.
New Haven
Army
AIC

Re: Offseason Fun: How Many DII/DIII Teams Have You Seen In Person?

All of the NCHA teams, most of the MCHA teams, most of the MIAC teams, and Middlebury, Manhattanville, and Oswego.

All I remember are these enormous Hershey kisses I bought (a couple of weeks before Valentines Day... big hit with the ladies) and reading a plaque at the rink which said either Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in one game.

That would be Wilt Chamberlain who scored 100 points in a game while playing for the Philadelphia Warriors against the NY Knicks in Hershey, PA. It's because of Chamberlain that the NBA instituted the 3-second rule. He would just stand under the basket with no defense able to move him out of the way, take the pass, and drop it in the basket.

Personally, the rule they should have implemented was to allow checking in basketball... :D

That record still stands today and at least it is verifiable. Unlike Chamberlain's self proclaimed record... ;)
