I don't know which is worse, USA winning and hearing 58 minutes of gloating about it on each ESPN telecast, or USA losing and hearing 58 minutes of butthurt about it on each ESPN telecast.

The US women continue to play with little or no thought. Driving under the basket, time and time again with no where to go and then throwing up a prayer or throwing it away.

Down 47-43 at the half, typical Auriemma-coached team: total lockdown on defense in 3rd quarter, only 10 points for Australia, US ahead by 6 after 3 quarters.

US women now up by 11 with 1:30 left. :)


EDIT: US wins 86-73.

Interesting to see the score by quarters:

US: 20, 23, 22, 21.

Australia: 22, 25, 12, 14.



Aussies really hurt themselves by not beating France, else they'd probably be in the finals instead of playing for bronze.

The South African whose gender has been questioned won a heat in the women's 800.

Women's Soccer Gold Medal Match not only has the same teams as the last Women's World Cup Final but the same referee!

(It's actually not surprising. There are really only two referees capable of this, and one of them is American)

Lack of capable refs hasn't stopped ECAC Hockey. ;)

[women's soccer gold medal] game is on NBC SC (NBC sports channel f/k/a versus, I believe). We convinced our boss it was better to put the game on mute on the conference room TV so that people could just drop in and out to catch the score, rather than have everyone surreptitiously trying to catch a few moments on line...:)

1-0 US at halftime, but Japan looks like the fresher team. Beside the 120 minute game, the mental stress to come from behind 3 times must have been very tiring! I hope the US defense can hold out.

Watch for them to put in some high-energy minutes at the outset of the 2nd half to try to get a second score early.
