Canada's coach whined about the American's play. Saying that they used "highly illegal tactics" to get as far as they did.

It was probably merely a stunt to try and get in their heads.

IIRC, I saw some piece on her where they said she's been dating the same guy since early in college. I figure once that goes south I'll make my big move.

Argentina keeping it close again against the US Men. A foul with 0.3 seconds left puts Argentina to the line and allows them to cut the deficit to 1 at the half. If USA wins, the semifinals will probably be the hardest test left as it will be the winner of Brazil/Argentina, the two teams that have given the US trouble this year. The other side of the bracket has Lithuania, who gave the US a scare but doesn't have much talent overall, and Spain who are the favorites to knock off the USA but have not been impressive. If Argentina can pull it off, then each game in the knock-out round could be a challenge.

Just because you're down ~30, that doesn't mean you get to dong-punch someone. Maybe Charles Barkley should elbow one of these guys in the head, too.

US women's basketball up 20 over Canada at half-time. Typical throttling on defense and lots of transition points. Imagine how scary good this team would be if they actually had time to practice together!

Assuming a victory today, they play the Australia / China winner on Thursday with the gold medal game on Saturday. I'd love to see Turkey come through on the other half of the bracket!


Two really tough matches in women's beach volleyball coming up in about 3 hours.

You'd probably need to schedule intra-squad scrimmages in large arenas and sell tickets and have the games in small gyms and let people in for free. Or schedule teams like the Washington Generals.

It is nice to have a little contraversy with Canada yesterday, I had forgotten they had sent anyone to the summer Olympics.

After one period, USA and Australia are knotted up 3-3 in women's water polo, thanks to a last-second goal by Lauren Wegner. This is the semi-final; winner plays for the gold, loser plays for the bronze. Spain and Hungary are in the other match.

4 Track and field finals today-
Mens High Jump- where the US seems to have a decent chance at a medal, since they are among the best jumpers
Mens Discus
Womens 100m Hurdle- Semis run 2 hours before the final, but will Lolo Jones get the gold this time after tripping over a hurdle in Bejing?
Mens 1500m- Probably a Keynan/Ethiopian race, but depending on how it's run, who knows. Centrowitz's father ran in Montreal's Olympics, and would have competed in Moscow- so there's some genes that have been here before.

USA pulled ahead 6-5 at the half, but we have a goalie duel here in the 3rd.

Conveniently permitting them to avoid explaining:

(1) How you allow a goal directly off a corner kick; no excuse for that at this level. When Megan Rapinoe -- who takes virtually all of the US corners when she's in the game was asked the last time she had done that, she said

Probably when I was 12 and the corner kicks were like five yards from the goal

(2) What the goalie was doing on the winning goal. If she had come out to challenge she probably could have interferred with the header -- or punched Morgan in the head -- and if she had held her line she could probably have tipped it over the goal. Instead, she was wandering around in no (wo)man's land.
