That smart phone comment was kinda an apples to oranges comparison. I agree, if you only want to make phone calls, you don't need an iPhone. Case in point, my mom. She can barely figure out how to make phone calls as it is, start throwing other stuff on, and it could get bad, quick.

But making phone calls and gaming are not a 1:1 comparison. There isn't really a significant difference between making a call on a smart phone or a 6 year old brick. One you press buttons, one you tap a screen, that's really about it. And, you can call whatever phone numbers you want, regardless of what phone you have. The XB1 has improvements that would actually affect the quality of gaming, and make it worth upgrading for that alone, and there's also new games that can't be played on an older system. The extra stuff should be besides the point when it comes to gaming. Use them if you can and want, otherwise, don't.

If it really is just a DRM issue, I'd imagine they could come up with some simpler fixes if they really wanted. Require the disc be in the tray for offline gaming! Worked fine on the 360.

Sony confirms they are doing away with their online pass program, and they believe other developers are trending toward the same if they haven't already.

Oh, I'm sure Microsoft will make it so military members can get all the perks just to keep that market share.

Honestly, just reading up on these two, it makes me interested in getting a PS4, and I haven't felt that since the PS2 days.

Microsoft to remove the used disc restrictions and 24 hour Internet check-ins from the XBone.

Still no comment on removing the mandatory Kinect functionality.

NCAA has decided not to renew their contract with EA sports for Football. Current contract expires June, 2014, thus making NCAA Football 2014 the last in the series.

AP - The NCAA says it will no longer allow Electronic Arts Inc. to use its logo and name in video games.

The NCAA announced Wednesday it will not enter into a new contract with EA Sports and NCAA Football 2014 will be the last edition of the popular game.

The move comes as the NCAA fights a lawsuit that demands the NCAA find a way to cut players in on the billions of dollars earned by from live broadcasts, memorabilia sales, video games and in other areas.

The NCAA says in a statement it is confident in its legal position regarding the use of trademarks in video games, but "we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA."

EA Sports can still do a game, just without the logo. Can't wait until we see that big "Palo Alto at South Bend" game.

Word is the updated version will allow coaches from the SEC to give recruits up to $100,000

I think schools and conferences are contracted separately from what I've read. But the big question is, will the A&M quarterback be available before the second quarter of a noon game? :D
