Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Spoiler free, tell me what choices I should make for maximum lulz/the best perks.

I already chose not to blow up the skyscraper, and I know not to remove Killbane's mask.
As far as items go, you can only ever lock yourself out of two of them. One being the Apoca-fists, which you know how to get, and the other being whatever item you don't choose to upgrade during one of the S.T.A.G. missions (I didn't chose the satchel bombs).

The Act 3 items you get all of, because once you complete the game, that last mission is always available to replay, unlike earlier ones.

Otherwise the choices are fairly mundane. There is a choice to get 25% off Vehicle upgrades or Weapon Upgrades (I chose weapon), and there is a choice between getting $20,000 upfront or getting 10% (might be higher) more money continuously (I chose the percentage).

So the only story based achievement I missed was the alternate Act 1 ending. I forgot to make a 2nd save before passing that point. But I have a USB storage I can start a new game on and run through to get that.

Looks like all cafe threads without posts for a few months went with the last purge. So bye-bye "Wii, Wii, the second thread."

That said, did anybody posting on this thread get the new Zelda game for the Wii today?
I am waiting till after the new year to get this one. It got excellent reviews though.

Chuck Norris should have been a pandaren, so some new meme could have been generated.

JF, have you abandoned Skyrim?

I haven't gotten nearly as much play time as I would like lately but am greatly enjoying the game. Finished the Companions quest line, probably about halfway through the the College of Winterhold questline now, and have done a few miscellaneous ones here and there. Last saved in a dungeon to recover Azure's Star.

But what I am liking most is the random fight you find just walking about. Hunters and bandits getting in fights with other NPC's, and the random dragon fights with other monsters. Have had a Blood Dragon vs. Unaggressive Giant vs. NPC farmer vs. 2 Cave bears vs. Me fight and a Giant vs. Dragon vs. Me fight. The latter took two attempts as I encountered it after emerging from a dungeon for a College of Winterhold quest so had the autosave right there. I didn't quite kill the Giant before he reached me and he golf swung at me so hard I was still flying higher in the air when the cut scene ended.

Not at all. SR3 is a much shorter game, as I am nearly 100% on it in only 24 hours of gameplay. It was unfortunate they came out only 4 days apart. So after I come back from Thanksgiving out of town, Skyrim will get my full attention through the end of the year. :)

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Got the VTOL and was having so much ****ed fun flying around death-raying gangs that I ended up at level 50 and bought all the no damage/infinite ammo perks. I am invinc-ible!

And despite being level 50, I still almost managed to die during S.E.R.C. when two brutes cornered me and took turns tossing me into an electric fence for a solid minute.

Now to get further into the story and get the really fun stuff.

Only activity I am having trouble with is the hard version of Snatch. Not so much because i'm at risk of dying (im not) but because there is a timer, and you can't let too many of the ho's die, and there is 8000 people/vehicles/choppers chasing me all with guns and rocket launchers. I think I use at least 3 cars and still can't finish in time.

Tried using Tank 2.0, but its slow and can only carry 1 ho at at time. Not good when I need to save 7 of them in 9 minutes.

I remember that activity was a biznatch on SR2 as well. If you have the every car has nitrous perk just keep spamming the nitrous - you can ram through cars easier and sometimes blow them up with a single hit. Quick way to take out gang cars and buy yourself some breathing room.

Try the Bear. Faster than the tank, tough, has a minigun, and I believe it can hold everyone. The VTOL can hold a single passenger too, but at least it's faster than the tank and less risk of being attacked. Probably waste a lot of time taking off and landing, though.

Yeah, I have nitrous all the time now. Can't use planes/choppers. The ho's won't enter those vehicles. Tricky bastids.

Another trick they do is that even though I have unlimited sprint and unlimited ammo, certain missions those perks are taken away from you and you are back to normal sprint and ammo.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Skyrim continues to impress me. Yesterday I continued on the Winterhold College questline and in several hours, I managed to complete only one dungeon. And it did not have a single tough fight in the entire dungeon, it was just absolutely massive and had so much useable material in it that I had to make several trips just to haul out smelting ingredients so I could work on my smithing skill. I managed to complete the dungeon, but still need to return for 1/2 more trips to finish hauling out the metal. And that si with loading up my follower with material as well. Dwarven ruins are fun even if they do have more of a steampunk or EQ/WoW Gnome feel which isn't my favorite.

I have to look more into how different followers affect game play, if they are all the same or if their different styles actually have a noticeable difference. And how much giving followers equipment changes their effectiveness. After watching several monsters essentially run me over without spotting to me to attack Lydia while she was sneaking, I am starting to think giving her heavy armor may be affecting how stealthy I am in the dungeons.

Just bought a Samsung D8000 55inch LED, will be mainly to play games on, although I may do some rearranging in our basement and atleast hook cable up to it. We'll see. I won't be home to test it until mid December however.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

So my buddy had a pinball party at his place (the guy that sold me my machine.)

He has one of the other machines that were on my "drop everything and go ahead and grab this one" list.

Turns out he needs to clear space and has to get rid of it.

A few things left to shop on it, and I should be able to pick it up after Christmas. *nerdgasm*

So thanks to a successful trip to the craps tables while in Vegas for Thanksgiving (not my idea, and we all agreed we weren't doing it again as a Thanksgiving destination), looks like I get to fix and upgrade my desktop ahead of schedule (andhave a few bucks left over to throw towards the wife's new laptop, too). May have to get skyrim to christen the new machine and break it in before ME3 comes out in March.

Nice! Skyrim on a PC that can run it is sexy. :D You should also consider The Witcher 2. That game is amazing and will eat a weak PC for lunch.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Nice machine. Other than marathon air hockey sessions with my brother, the original High Speed was my best old school arcade experience. I had one session on it that felt like an 80's teen movie with people in the arcade crowding around me more and more as the siren kept going off.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

My great uncle has the original High Speed pinball machine in his basement. Spent plenty of hours playing that game. I loved it, and got pretty good at it. The thing still works but it's in rough shape.

Guy I know has a bunch of them. It's a pretty interesting hobby to restore/maintain them. Once you get your first, they start multiplying.

They tend to run in clubs and swap machines back and forth, etc. so it's less expensive a hobby than one might think.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Well he has plenty of grandkids/nieces and nephews, so he has a whole game room downstairs. Pinball, pool table, air hockey, even a skeeball set.
