Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Drive it just like real NASCAR. Sit in second or third in someone's slipstream until there's a lap or two left, then make your move. Don't try to hold the lead, it's impossible.

Well, tonight was the seasonal, 5 laps each race, and that's what I kinda did. Got to the top half racing the Robert Duvall way for the first three laps, then went Tom Cruise on it for the last two laps. But those cars suck on road races, and the actual NASCAR race blows donkeys so much it's unreal (although that's more of the ACTIVITY'S [not a sport!] than the game's fault).

For you retro gamers. Ultima I,II,III pack is $5.99 and Ultima IV is Free at gog.com.

Also it looks like Cyan Games (Myst, Riven, Uru) are still discounted (50%?).

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Are they optimized to run on modern computers? It seemed like any re-releases I've checked out needed some serious voodoo to work very well. Would love to replay Ultima V some time, easily one of my top games of all time.

They are built to run on current computers. So they definitely make changes to ensure they run. If you are concerned, I'd test drive Ultima IV since its free.

wat

30 seconds of driving, then I get to play Press X To Not Die? Eff that. Oh, and by the way, Saints Row 3 launches the same day.

For now, bring on Driver San Francisco. That's looking more and more hilarious by the second.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Amazon has "Buy one, get one 50% off" on a selection of video game titles (all systems). A few gems to be found amongst the junk.

I picked up Tactics Ogre (PSP) and Final Fantasy IV (DS) for a total of $29 and change.

Other titles I noticed, Fallout New Vegas, Plants vs Zombies, Y's, SOCOM, Super Mario, GTA.

Also Twitch, Fanatec is making a new wheel just for Forza 4 (Oct 11). Aptly named "Fanatec Elite Forza Motorsport 4 Wheel" at the moment.

I think it's going to have two versions as well, a "clubsport(?)" (~$299) and an "elite" (~$799).

The day I drop $800 on a steering wheel is the day I am driving real race cars.

Not that I would spend $300. I think my accessory price limit is around $100.

For $800 it better do more than just drive a virtual race car.

Due to the popularity they have released another Ultima pack. Ultima IV-V-VI for $5.99. Although IV is still free as a stand alone.

Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition and Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project are both $2.99 (-50%) this weekend.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Today's Steam deal is Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood for $5.00 (-75%).

Also, saw more car pr0n from Forza 4 on the XBOX dashboard. It's talking about their new partnership with Top Gear and some of the modes that came out of that, including one for people who like photographing cars, and people who want to see every detail of the car including under the hood and the interior.

Thirdly, NHL 12 and White Knight Chronicles II came out today. WKCII comes with a free re-mastered copy of WKCI on the disc.

To be frank, I was not that impressed with GT5. It just seemed like GT4+. Half the car models were lifted right from the PS2 for fark's sake.

I really hope they take Forza 4 up to 11. Forza has a chance to steal the crown here.

I would be surprised if they screwed this up. I still think Forza 3 is the most fun to play of all the car games and thats a couple years old now.

- I'd like to see them expand their alternative car race choices (Rally, Trucks, Karts, etc.).
- I know their livery editor is going to be upgraded, because thats something they hang their hats on.
- I hope they avoid the GT5 pitfall of having 43 versions of one car (Hi, skyline!) for the sake of saying we have X cars.
- Kinect head tracking could be huge also. Not needing to press buttons to look behind or to the side is a boon.
