Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Evening, gentlemen. I have what might be a dumb question (I'm pretty good at those).

I have a newer version PS2 with a couple controllers (not wireless), with about a dozen games. Everything in fairly nice condition. Original boxes with the games, but not the PS2 itself. I haven't played it in about 6 months and I'm looking to unload it. What am I looking at if I take this stuff to a Gamestop or similar store?

Thank you in advance.

WAG: $5 or so a game, $50 for the system (maybe less,) $5 for each of the controllers.

Probably in the neighborhood of $100.

You can probably do better on Craigslist.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

PS2 is $49 used at Gamestop. That means they are giving you $20 or less on trade-ins. Better off keeping it or selling it elsewhere.

Sell it privately. You'll find someone like me who'll pay you closer to the price that Gamestop is selling it for.

FTR, I bought my PS2 3 years ago, maybe? 4 max. I'm not one to upgrade at the drop of a hat, obviously.

Edit: in "grind" mode on GT5. Level 35, just waiting to get to the Redbull car. I don't mind it, except the kinda sorta annoying fact that you can have $20MM max, so I have to buy random cars so I don't "lose" money while winning races for experience.

Why don't I mind it? I can race whatever the hell I want, and it really doesn't matter. It's all slow-building, so I can keep familiar with multiple tracks, try some new stuff out, etc.

Played the demo (3 inn, SF/Tex) of MLB Bobblehead Pros (XBL Arcade, 800 pts) earlier this week and decided to buy it today.

Great fun so far after 2 games into a full season mode with Twins. I will probably have to ramp up difficultly though. On Amateur I am 2-0 (@ Tor) winning game 1 18-4 after being down 4-1 and then winning game 2 38-0 as Liriano threw a 4-hitter.

Thome has 4 HR so far. Morneau is 12-14 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. :)

I was looking at this last night, I might pick it up as well.

Encountered rain in the game for first time. But it was weird. It only seemed to rain sometimes, not even for whole innings sometimes.

Felt good to crush the Yankees in a 4-game series though. :D

Morneau is up to 17 HR in 7 games.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Amnesia the dark descent was kind of disappointing for the scare factor. I think there's only like 3 times where I ever had an issue with the monsters being more than a momentary distraction. Since you can't actually fight back they were just annoying. It's compounded by their AI being either so bad you can walk past them or they'll spot you from down a hallway because you looked at them funny.

The atmosphere was fairly creepy but there's no actual penalty for dying to the monsters and they're so rare you can just go about your business.

The puzzles were alright, if a little too dependent on finding the one objects in a room full of objects in order to solve it. Some of the level design was far too open ended. There's one room completely shrouded in fog and you could wander for days inside of it and never be able to find your way out.

Played and beat Costume Quest this weekend. It's fun, but pretty short. Not sure its worth $14.99, but maybe. There is a $4.99 add-on as well, although I don't have that yet.

I am looking forward to The Baconing (aka DeathSpank 3) on the 31st. That game is going to be awesome! :D

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Oh look, Twitch wants another driving game :p

Driver San Francisco looks like a bucket of lulz. The gimmick with this one is called "shift" which basically lets you teleport out of your car and take demonic possession of any other car on the road. Can't lose the cops? Switch to a truck coming the other way and smash into them. It's completely ludicrous, but they seem like they're aware of it and are embracing it (kinda like Saints Row.)

Need for Speed: The Run looks meh. I love love LOVE the cross-country race concept, but it seems like one of those things EA would just find a way to eff up. Looks like the Autolog will be back, and it sounds like it's going to keep track of your cumulative time for all the events so you can compare. And foot sequences? EA is on crack.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Great, now peripheral specific achievements are coming to the 360. Nothing like having to dish out $150 on a Kinect to get 100% completion in Forza 4.

This is definitely going to keep me up at night.

Tiger Woods 12 handled paid extras poorly, too. But at least you could get all of the achievements without shelling out extra money, even if it was harder without the DLC courses.

Are you going to miss out on content because of it? Or do you just want another smilie sticker next to your name?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

GT5 NASCAR-related events suck arse. Even the new seasonal on non-NASCAR tracks. At least you get good grinding experience.

Drive it just like real NASCAR. Sit in second or third in someone's slipstream until there's a lap or two left, then make your move. Don't try to hold the lead, it's impossible.
