Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Do you buy every car game? :)

I wonder if brents favorite yooper intersection is in the game too.

It should be. You could file it under the Extreme Category, Snow. And then limit the entries to all the crappy cars in the game.

And where do you find these dirt tracks? Unless I completely missed it, I haven't seen one yet, besides the license tests (FTR, I'm only IB so far, because I haven't HAD to earn a higher license, and I only do the license tests when I'm bored).

1) Dirt 3 is a seperate racing game.
2) The rally races in GT5 have dirt and snow tracks. I think those are unlocked as you level up.
3) You aren't required to earn licenses ever in the game, but you will miss some content.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I realized this morning that Cote d'Azur in GT5 is the Formula 1 track at Monaco. I had the F1 practice on this morning, and started noticing familiar corners. I hit that wall, and that one, and that one. :D

Less frustrating than Nurgburgring in GT5. 2098753809263 MPH for 98374643 miles straightaway, then boom hard right turn. Or you clip a blade of grass and do a couple 360s before crashing headfirst into a wall. ;)

And btw guys, thanks for putting up with my stupid questions and such about GT5 and PS3. Your info has been a huge help.

Try running Monaco in B-Spec. It's impossible to win because HE WILL NOT PASS. PERIOD. And then he gets frustrated and eats it at the tunnel chicane. (Granted, it's also next to impossible to pass there in real F1 as well.)

See all the chalkings on the pavement? Some of those are memorials to drivers who died at that particular corner.

They call it Green Hell for a reason.

I usually do okay in it so far (level 24 or so exp), because the cars I drive usually cover for my shortcomings as a driver, but that straightaway/corner drives me nuts. It's like it wants to be Daytona (the oval) but throws in some Rome/Tokyo turns just to f* with you.

I've narrowed it down to I'm pretty good at 150-170mph races unless it's something like Nurgburgring (then it's spotty, depends on the limitations), and pretty good at races that have short straightaways and lots of tough corners (like Rome). Tried racing the NASCAR series, and failed miserably, though. And a couple of the extreme level races that I have cars that qualify, the cars are no match period for what other cars are on the course. I suppose this means it's grinding time.

Have been getting by with an old Corvette, Lambo Gallardo, and a couple of Audis (one a Quattro, the other I can't remember the name of, but it's touchy like the French car). Still nursing my BSpec driver (nursing because while interesting, it's rather boring just to sit there watching a race). I usually try and BSpec a race or two each day.

As for the snow/dirt, like the other GTs I show promise, but can't quite nail it, probably due to lack of racing on those surfaces. I just miss the silver in the license tests every time (edit: I pass the first time every time). But for those, bronze is good enough for me, because I don't really care.

I did. I needed the Jaguar(?) that I won several levels later, and a bunch of luck.

I remember that chicane. I almost put a controller through the tv a couple times because while running by himself he would hit it and get stuck. Every god**** time.

I'm pretty sure that all of the Gran Turismo tracks are real life courses.

I'd guess the XJ220, if it was a Jag. Power and speed with that car.

I just never put two and two together. I think it's under the city list with London and Madrid and not with the world courses like the Fuji Speedway or Daytona.

I just found it funny. I was watching tv, and it all just looked so familiar.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

The Jaguar XJ13 Race Car ‘66. I liked driving that one.

Ah. Yeah, the only racecars I have is the Tony Stewart NASCAR and some 200~HP Honda that I won. I think it was something to do with the ads on the other cars (competitors to my company being the main ad) or just disliking the reps of the drivers via the news/fans (although I hate NASCAR and autoracing in general; ironic, huh?).

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Wasn't too happy to hear about the nerfs coming up in 4.2 for WoW so I got the Rift trial. The 3 different classes you can spec into are annoying if you don't know exactly what you're getting because you can't change them till you're at least level 13 without making another character. Questing is good, very directed, and you get multiple objectives to clear out an area rather than going back and forth.

I absolutely love the invasion system. I got to the first big town and was doing some little meaningless quests that were just for lulz, like stopping this student from getting hazed when suddenly the sky turns red this big booming voice announces that everybody is about to get skull ****ed to death so this join group button pops up and suddenly I'm fighting off hordes of elementals who are out to purge everything with fire. An hour later the last one finally closes and I walked away with a ton of loot.

There is a flip side to that though. If no one is on these things will completely take over an area, releasing stronger and stronger mobs. I don't think that's phased in anyway so if you're just starting out, surprise, your starting area is now the home of an endless stream of abominations who really REALLY want to meet you.

The Chaparral 2J is the shiznit if you can afford one. It's pretty much the only car that stands a chance of winning the Historic GT event.

Plus it looks like a washing machine that ripped itself out of the wall and started tearing *** around the track.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I hope that when I return to town on Tuesday the PSN Store is up. I want my free DLC content for L.A. Noire! Oh and my 3 free games for the inconvenience.

Wasn't too happy to hear about the nerfs coming up in 4.2 for WoW so I got the Rift trial.
It was just 33% off retail last weekend for the game. Doh.

Silverwood's a little bit different than the rest, in so much as in certain areas you'll have level 20 invasions hitting an area heavily populated by level 10-15 characters. Most of the rest scale pretty well with character levels.

My main character will hit the level cap within the week, so we'll see how the end game goes. I'm not a huge raider, but the PvP warfronts are fun, and I've still got about half the world to explore (only really done the guardian side...have barely touched the defiant side).

What they are doing is reversing their earlier stance on "Dungeons are hard" so that people can "see the content" and get their welfare epics. It's only affecting the normal modes of this last tier of raiding but it's a bad precedent. Especially since there's nothing else to do other than daily quests and the new raid that's coming out. Other than that you get this past tier of gear from running dungeons that have been out since Cataclysm launch. Unless they come out with another raid or more dungeons soon I will be unsubscribing.

Only reason I haven't already is that I still haven't downed all the raid bosses and it's enjoyable enough to just do random stuff with friends. Cho'gall, Nefarian, and Al'Akir are brutal from start to finish.

Al'Akir "The impossible boss" - http://youtu.be/hGeY1Hxv-u8
Nefarian - http://youtu.be/3MQyH78aqT4
Cho'gall "words words words, the master wants murder!" - http://youtu.be/GxPFelqptbc

Of course most people hit the brick wall of Valiona and Theralion.

If you do the trial for Rift you can upgrade for I think it's 40$.

If you end up subscribing, you mind entering me as a referral if you can? I get some goodies out of it, I think.
