Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

DC Universe, picked it up because I had a gift card for Best Buy. I don't believe I'll be renewing the subscription for it though (first month is free). The questing could be a lot better because it can be hard to even figure out what you're supposed to do and the map doesn't help much if you're not already near the area.

The controls are clearly designed to be used by a console controller with the menu and such being very limited in what you can do. Such as you can only have one quest showing at one time. Where as in other MMO's you can have several showing up. I think for the character I have in WoW, who is max level, I end up with at least 8 daily quests up at once and I can just go and do them and don't have to worry about activating each of them to see what I have to do. To even talk to others you need to go through like 8 button presses.

There isn't any kind of optimal rotation for abilities that you can use. Mostly it's spamming mouse button 1 and 2 to do different combos that you spec into. So it's a bit more interactive than the more standard press a number key and your character does this and you do have knockback and other things that help make it feel like you're actually doing something.

The camera is a major pain in the ***. You can activate a WASD mode that'll help with mouse and keyboard but it's still very unwieldy.

As a plus it does run very well on the PC. I was rather surprised that Sony took the time to actually make it look and run better even though it's clearly designed to be a ps3 game.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

You act like I got all of these the same day or something. I've had my Steam account for a year. That is plenty of time to play all of those. The GTA ones were a package deal that was on sale. I had played/beat most of them before I ever got them from Steam. Actually, most of the games were bought because of "on sale" deals. :)

I am really trying to decide in what format I want to buy The Witcher 2 when it comes out.

I've had steam for at least a year as well, and my list includes "Empire: Total War", "Grand Theft Auto IV". and "Civilization V" Though I do have FM2011, just not on Steam.

Amazon has the original PS3 for $40 + local taxes, $56 after shipping - through Target, thus the shipping charge even for Prime customers, and then the taxes, too. I don't know how long that price will last. It's the 160GB model, and not the new slimmer and more energy efficient version.

ETA: My order said that they were temporarily out of stock. I'm waiting to see if my order gets canceled or not. I didn't buy any games or accessories just in case.

And Target officially cancelled my order. Oh well. I mostly expected that to happen.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Thanks for the heads up Foxton. I'll pass on DC Universe it looks like.

This year should be a fun year for games though. Have on my upcoming list:

Dragon Age II
Mass Effect III
Diablo III (is that due this year? should be)
Torchlight II
The Witcher II

Just need something to come out darn it.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

LittleBigPlanet 2 dropped today.

I think I will wait for GOTY edition as after a couple weeks I never played the first one again.

eta: I just played Torchlight some more this weekend. Grinding money to get phat armor and weapons via gamble enchantment. Best I've got so far for +HP is 252.

A friend of mine has his warrior guy maxed out with skills and fame and is at level ~100 for the infinite dungeon. Has some enchantments offering +600HP.

Grappling hook + A Fifth of Beethoven = epic win.

And I would listen to Stephen Fry read the phone book.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Woo. Wheeled and dealed to get a brand new copy of LBP2 for $32. :D

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

GameInformer has about a 6 page spread on ESV:Skyrim. It was the equivalent of looking at the playboy playmate spread in terms of video games.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Whoever came up with the concept of "bomb survival" in LBP was one sick, twisted individual.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

So the Nintendo 3DS releases on March 27th in Blue or Black at a price point of $249.99.

I'm not interested at that price. Handhelds shouldn't cost as much as consoles.

Holy Christ! For that price, does it also have a 3G/4G chip built in and an Apple logo on the back of it?

So what is Nintendo's target audience with that? Right now it seems like mostly kids (7-14) are the ones that the DS targets... Do many adults go for the DS? At that price I would hope that they are going after the 15-30 y/o crowd...

I dunno, I own 2 DS (and 2 other GB) and I am not in the 7-14 age range. :o

DS is the #1 selling system, so their target audience is everyone.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Why doesn't FIFA 11 have downloadable stadiums? They could make a ton of money letting fans download their team's stadium.

I'm actually really sad I don't like it more but when I can go hop on WoW and enjoy Cataclysm content the difference in quality and polish to the product makes me not want to bother.

Amen to that! Or a Stadium Creator...that'd be tons of fun.

On the topic of FIFA...I am the streakiest player alive...maybe it has something to do with the settings I play in. When I was at home I won 19/20 online, shooting my ranking way up. I was 45-8 over Winter Break.

...back to school, and I'm 1-9.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I need to have a semi-serious discussion here. You're going to laugh your *** off once you read it, but there's a serious issue to be discussed here.

So I'm playing some community levels on LBP2 and someone makes a friend request. I decide to be a nice guy and friend him back and play a few levels with him. We chat for a bit, and then he drops the bombshell that he's 10 years old.

What is proper protocol here? This is honestly scary as hell.

What is so scary? That you play a game that 10 year olds play or that one of them might have been your intellectual equivalent?

: )
