Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb
DC Universe, picked it up because I had a gift card for Best Buy. I don't believe I'll be renewing the subscription for it though (first month is free). The questing could be a lot better because it can be hard to even figure out what you're supposed to do and the map doesn't help much if you're not already near the area.
The controls are clearly designed to be used by a console controller with the menu and such being very limited in what you can do. Such as you can only have one quest showing at one time. Where as in other MMO's you can have several showing up. I think for the character I have in WoW, who is max level, I end up with at least 8 daily quests up at once and I can just go and do them and don't have to worry about activating each of them to see what I have to do. To even talk to others you need to go through like 8 button presses.
There isn't any kind of optimal rotation for abilities that you can use. Mostly it's spamming mouse button 1 and 2 to do different combos that you spec into. So it's a bit more interactive than the more standard press a number key and your character does this and you do have knockback and other things that help make it feel like you're actually doing something.
The camera is a major pain in the ***. You can activate a WASD mode that'll help with mouse and keyboard but it's still very unwieldy.
As a plus it does run very well on the PC. I was rather surprised that Sony took the time to actually make it look and run better even though it's clearly designed to be a ps3 game.
