Oblivion GOTY Ed with all expansions should be only $25 or less for 360. If you get that one, it's totally worth the money.
I had played Morrowind on my previous laptop a few years ago and had fun with the ability to do whatever the **** I wanted, including murdering random NPC's and any guards that tried to arrest me for it. :D
Same goes for Forza 3, although you won't get any add-on content free with that.
Would I need to get any ridiculous peripherals for this game, or is it reasonably good/playable on a standard wireless controller?

Forza is built to use either controller or wheel. I always use a controller for it, cause I am not willing to shell out for the wheel. Plays just as well.

Only issue with Oblivion is that you need to pay attention to how you level up. Because enemies all level with you, and you could become underpowered. Otherwise it's great. The PC version is cheaper than the 360 version and lets you use mods if you want.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I'd be getting the X360 version because my computer (if you'd call it that) is a netbook. No way in **** would it support a game like that, and playing it on this 10" screen would suck balls. I've read about that level "smoothing", and I'm not terribly worried about it. I'm actually glad it has that because one thing I noticed with Morrowind is it got comically easy after awhile (after maxing out the sneak ability). I could just sneak up and kill pretty much anything.

Now playing Forza on a 60" screen...that's something I am very much looking forward to doing. :D

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I'm excited for the final installment of Assassin's Creed to come out. But goodbye socia life.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I'm going to ask the same thing I asked on GPL:

I hate multiplayer unless it's all local with friends. Do either of these (BF/MW3) have a first player or co-op mode worth spending money on?

I haven't played any of the recent COD, but considering how short their campaigns are I imagine co-op would be short lived fun (if it even exists). These games are made for online multiplayer (with friends).

I did play Battlefield 2 which was fun (and sometimes funny). But again, wouldn't be the greatest local co-op.

MW2 had a bunch of co-op missions that were fun on the harder difficulties. Especially ones where you had to snipe your way through the woods. Timing shots, coordination from different locations to get three guys in three shots. The mission with one player in an AC-130 Spooky and the other on the ground. Great fun. Some of the other co-op missions were too difficult or boring.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

SpecOps was one of my favorite parts of MW2. There's a good mix of things to do, sniping, all-out assault, gunship missions, and some different modes like racing snowmachines or blowing up every car on a bridge. I personally enjoyed the SpecOps mission where you have to kill ten Juggernauts using only knives and explosives. A buddy and I had some crazy times on that one :)

Thankfully it is Veteran's day and I get the day off. But I didn't preorder, have a doctor's appointment in the afternoon and my niece is spending the night tonight, so not sure how much time I will get in tomorrow once I find a copy.

Showed up at Gamestop tonight, got my copy.... through the DVD in.... and I am apparently forced to download the entire game from Steam.... I have a physical copy of the DVD in hand... shouldn't 95% of the install come off the DVD? Why has the PC game industry gotten so backwards with this. So instead of installing in 10 minutes, I should apparently just go to bed now.

I like steam for the ability to travel without carrying my discs, and of course the cheap deals... But the new reliance on this is becoming extremely annoying. I think this is the 3rd time I've installed a game from a DVD but forced to download the entire game from steam. And I love not being able to play single player games like FM2011 and such when I am on the road waiting at an airport or in a plane because I can't connect online.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

So it was like Christmas morning this morning. :D Woke up early (without alarm), got ready for work and then played about 30-45 min of Skyrim.

Opening scene is of course 100x better than the opening of the previous games, although it is similar in how you are put into the world. Graphics look sexy as expected on my PC. Nice that you see your first dragon inside 10 minutes!

You must be using a PS3.

Since no one is buying it, Amazon's deal of the day today is: Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 360/PS3, $39.99 (-33%)

:D

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

So I have no words but Wow for Skyrim.

The PC version is -as advertised- with basically zero load times. I don't think I have waited more then 3 seconds for anything. Once I got my video quality settings optimized so that I can play with no stutter/lag there is almost no loss of frame rate anywhere. I ended up with a display setup somewhere between medium and high. Although the default recommendation when I first started was high.

I've basically done most of the things you see in the 20 min video demo they released, minus the dragons near Whiterun. I haven't gotten that far yet. I beat the opening quest Unbound, and the first Riverwood assigned quest called Bleak Falls Barrow (sp). That has put me at level 3.

Leveling system seems way better than Oblivion so far. But I'll have to fight some more difficult enemies to really be able to tell if it feels balanced.

Game uses the Fallout style slow mo kills, but not so often that I get annoyed. Also takes a couple other ideas from Fallout in Perks and a new lockpick system.

I did pick up the Collector's Edition guide today as well, but have only leafed through the first few pages. I am avoiding really reading it yet, because I want that sense of discovery for this first play through. But it is a damn nice hard cover book. It comes with its own page ribbon, 650 pages, a pull out map, and free access to an online interactive map/guide system.

I read a review of that game that made fun of the fact that the NPCs all turn to look at you whenever you enter a room, and that they sometimes do really stupid things like getting stuck in corners / doorways, and that monsters chasing you also occasionally get stuck on/behind harmless things which then allows you to kill them easily from a distance with ranged weapons. :D

Those types of glitches are kind of a Bethesda legacy. Fallout had floating heads and stuff like that. :D But it is never so bad that it ruins the game thankfully.

Ouch, how dare you sir. PC and PC only... I haven't owned a console since the original NES. When I finally got it downloaded, I couldn't get past the opening cart scene becoming stuck in geometry. Apparently this was an extremely common bug in the PC version according to the boards. There was no set fix but managed to get by it by uninstalling and reinstalling... this time luckily from disc as the forums also gave a run command to install from disc as opposed to a steam install.

But that said, I am just about at the point you were at when you posted earlier about doing just about everything in the intro.. Haven't leveled up yet, but seeing as you believe it's better than Oblivion, may level up now. Been waiting to see a review on the leveling.

If it's PC why didn't you just buy it online and pre-load it so you didnt' have to deal with those Friday issues?

Leveling up should be safe. Since you don't pick attributes anymore, I don't think you can screw it up as easily. You pick to add points (5-10, i forget) to Magicka, Health, or Endurance each level, then you get a perk point. You can use it or save them up for later.

As far as PC issues, I only had 1 and nothing since. Early on the game closed out, but I think that was due to the really high settings I had it on at the time.

The game vista's have been pretty awe inspiring so far. Distant mountains covered with a fog ring, blizzard like snow falls, mountain waterfalls leading into streams. Haven't had a really good view of the games northern lights yet, just some glimpses.

Three primary reasons:
1. Getting it at release was more of a last minute decision, and another friend was picking it up at midnight so I went as well.
2. I had no clue you had to go through steam regardless and it would default to downloading instead of installing form disc
3. Until you posted on Thursday, I had no clue you could pre-load.

And yeah I leveled up as soon as I posted last night, was level 6 before finishing that first dungeon. The perk interface is cool, but makes it really difficult to compare
