Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

My Forza style is "rewind until I can slip my way up to the front of the pack without damaging my car, then turn into The Stig."

I play with most of the driving aids off, as it makes you more money and gives you more freedom over the car. Only aids I have are manual without clutch (as oddly enough, the XBox wheel has no clutch pedal, just flappy paddles) and the GYR driving line.

Yeah... When I say I play on total retardo mode I'm not lying.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I only use the partial GYR line (corners) and Auto (no shifting). Because unlike in a real car you can't feel the speed, so you need a visual indicator to know how much breaking to use.

Otherwise the rest of it is turned off.

Also, the highest rated cars get to be at the front of the starting grid. No reason to bump and bang if you start in 1st place. :D

Otherwise if you are starting further back, the best strategy is to bump the lead car(s) right off the start. Assuming your acceleration pulls you even with them.

It's good to hear that, I've upgraded my cars when I've had the chance yet somehow I'm still kept towards the back. It's not that I care, I like playing the part of arsehole driver. It's fun beating them to turns and taking their inside line away or nudging them from behind if they beat me to the turn and send them flying. :D

Unless you're like me and can't do a standing launch to save your soul.

The problem is that stupid overdramatic countdown with 1879374734 camera angles doesn't let you activate the gas until "1" so you can't build the proper amount of revs.

Nah, you can rev the engine before 1. Just watch your dial on the right. It fills up as you hit the gas until it its the red zone at the top.

Finally. Now I can add this thread over to the subscriptions.

Which dial? You mean the tachometer? Or one of the special diagnostic meters you can turn on?

(I'm usually in the cockpit cam, BTW.)

MLB The Show is pretty good so far. Got my Road to the Show career underway last night in Mississippi. Couple scoreless appearances and then got lit up for 2 runs and 3 hits in my last one. Can't seem to locate the knuckleball consistently.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

So I just came into a small amount of money that I don't feel obligated to tell my wife about, and I'm wondering which PS3 game I should purchase next. I just got my PS3 for Christmas, so here's my library so far:

Infamous
Batman Arkham Asylum
GTA IV
NHL 10
NCAA Football 09
Motorstorm
Madden 08 (I will NEVER EVER pay new price for Madden or most other EA titles)
Tiger Woods 07 (I had already purchase 10 for the Wii)
Rainbow Six Vegas

God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, MLB 10: The Show, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Super Street Fighter IV, etc. There are so many to get that are good, both exclusive and cross-platform.

FIFA 10 is a pretty good game if you're looking for another sports title. Even if you don't like soccer.

Or if you'd like to wait, FIFA World Cup will be coming out in the next month or two. If you're more into the international teams than the club teams it should be pretty awesome and it will include EVERY international squad, not just those in the World Cup tournament. So, you know, if you're itching to get the Faroe Islands to the World Cup you can do that.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Uncharted
Uncharted 2
Final Fantasy XIII
Metal Gear Solid 4
God of War 3
Street Fighter 4 (or Super Street Fighter 4 when it comes out)
UFC Undisputed
Burnout Paradise
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Modern Warfare 2
Need For Speed Shift
Motorstorm 2

Yeah that should be a good start... :p

I might actually pick that up. That sounds a lot more fun than playing with the Red Bulls or some Dutch team I've never heard of.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I have a FF XIII question that hopefully someone knows the answer to. Is it possible to progress your characters higher than Level 4? I thought I read somewhere that a guy had his characters as a Level 9 Ravanger or something. Am I just imagining things?

I have all of my characters maxed at Level 4 in their three main specialties. I have not done anything for the other three specialties though, they are all at Level 0. Do I start upgrading these other three specialties or can I continue to upgrade my three main ones somehow?

I'm currently on Chapter 13 and could finish the game, but I want to do a bunch of the missions.

Each role has 5 levels. So you could max out more than 1 role per character. Such as giving Snow both Ravager 5 and Commando 5.

Edit: Although there may be crystals available after level 5 so you can gain more HP, magic, etc. But as far as I can tell the special skills are all in the first 5.

Otherwise you make your characters stronger by leveling up/upgrading their accessories/weapons/armor.

The 13 chapters of the storyline are only part of the game. There is a lot more to do after that.

If you don't have it yet, Torchlight is only $5.00 ($19.99 reg) through Monday on Steam. At that price its a must have.
