Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I wouldn't think they would be getting any transfers, with 33 players on the roster there are good players sitting already. I guess if someone wanted to come in Eddie probably wouldn't refuse but I don't see anyone trying it.
yes there is a ton of talent/players,BUT if a top notch player comes along and rings up Coach G hes not going to say no,from the beginning of the yr its has been a tryout situation,so dont think it would end now, most spots are still up for grabs, and btwn the pipes is no different.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I said Eddie wouldn't refuse a player if someone wanted to come in. I just don't see many players wanting to jump into a situation where there are so many players sitting already and most of the roster are Freshman and Sophomores. Last year Oswego had a small, Senior heavy team and got no one at the break. They very well could pick up a player, I am just saying I would be surprised if they did. I did see that Shawn Bates has been removed from the Merrimack roster, maybe he has a connection to Mike Wills, he is a senior with one semester left.

I may be in the minority but I think the goal tending they have been getting has been solid, Gilby did let up a couple softies at Geneseo and one to Freddy but overall it hasn't been an issue. The defense has been the issue with guys struggling to be consistently on the same page. If they clean that up, you won't even notices the goalies most nights.

I was pretty much alluding to a D1 transfer who would come in as a soph or jr,and would have a good chance at ice time.otherwise I dont see much else happening as far as transfers....ps dont see Bates coming as he was kicked off the team and has 1 semester left, not anything coach G would want or like I think.

I don't think so either, just throwing it out there.

I think the only guys you would get looking to transfer at this point are guys that are really just looking for any team to be on. Some guys are just really looking to be on a team and Bates might be that type of guy. Don't forget KGT was kicked off/quit (depending on who you ask Buff State. The same can be said for Boots and Ohio State, Bremner and Mercyhurst and Josepher at Michigan State and look how they turned out. The one semester thing might kill the notion, but if Eddie felt they became a contender this year with a certain player in the lineup then I think he would go for it.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Hope he doesn't pull a "Beckwith" and bail.

I have to agree with DIIIFan on this, I don't think Beckwith bailed, he was coming off ACL surgery and basically was done for the year. Considering the fact he was plagued by injuries during his time with the Lakers, including a broken collarbone in his JR year when he made AA, maybe he decided it wasn't fun anymore and it was time to move on.

What I meant by that comment was Beckwith was eligible to come back and play the year AFTER his senior year, but chose not to. By rule, a player can apply for the additional year if his season ended early in the previous one due to injury. No offence meant to Beckwith.

<strike>Remind me, when did Beckwith sustained his injury? Because for a "medical redshirt" to apply in DIII, it has to occur in the first 1/3 of the regular season. For DIII Ice Hockey, that means it has to happen before the start of the 8th scheduled game.</strike>

EDIT: Nevermind, it was definitely early enough in the season to apply... But still, if he graduated, that's the end of the story, right?

First semester grade for the team I think would be a solid B as a whole. It was great to see such a young team so quickly get it's chemistry and work as a team. Yes there are some issues to be worked on, and until Gilbert comes back the goal situation is a non factor. The one aspect of this team that really impressed me was that every game I watch either in person or streaming was that there was always great amount of hustle and no quit in this team. Also this team plays as a team and not one that has "stars" on it. The team that works as a team, will usually beat the team with "stars" on it. Hopefully the Lakers will have a second half that is as good as the first but with a few key wins for us.
Happy Holidays to all !!!

Keep in mind too that this isn't DI....you want to come back and play? Sure. Pay for another year of classes just for a "chance" at a Division III National Title.

Paul currently works in NYC for Barclays Investment Bank as a KYC Analyst, he started in August 2013, by now he probably is longing for a chance to get back in goal ;)

I would think we all long to get back on the ice, that's why they have senior and beer leagues. However, the competition will never be like it was when you played at your highest level so just enjoy the skate.

No - grad students are eligible if they have eligibility. Don't know if such an option exists at Oswego or not (as in a grad program that he could have enrolled in).

Assuming they haven't exceeded 10 full-time semesters.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I think Andrew Mather was actually a Grad student academically for at least the second half of his senior year.

For Paul, I think Hare stepping in and playing as well as he did put an end to any thoughts he had of coming back. Like Remy said, he would have had to pay for another year of classes so he could compete with Hare and Jones for playing time and maybe win a title.
