Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

FYI: WTOP will be replaying Saturday night's game this Wednesday at 7pm Eastern

www.wtop10.com

Norm needs to give a "make a link" webinar....

As far as the crowd goes, I wasn't terribly impressed. I saw quite a few empty seats (100?) for a game that's been 'sold out' for weeks. I was sitting near the students and it's pretty clear that the majority couldn't care less what was happening on the ice. Many were just looking at their phones the whole time. Quite different from 2 or 3 years ago when the students stood and cheered the entire game and actually followed the game and cared what happened. But I digress.

We spend a lot of time discussing this young team and what talent we lose to graduation. The same can be said for the student fan. As classes graduate and move on, lets hope the incoming freshman learn to carry on the great tradition that is Oswego hockey.

I still feel that in last year's whiteout game, when Chris Muise scored that PPG in the third period, was my greatest hockey experience of all time. We may have lost the game, but being in that building and feeling that energy... It was as if 3000 people were all willing the puck into the net with all their might. And the puck finally obliged.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

It was a great win (oops- I mean "tie") on Saturday evening. As said above, great to watch a well-played hockey game between two talented teams. I went with realistic expectations and the team exceeded those, they're really coming along a lot faster than I had expected pre-season and after the first few games. The talent is clearly there, just a mater of gelling and chemistry.

A tie with the #1 ranked team- and without the services of Carr, Kim-Swallow, Badham and Gilbert. Not bad. They sure looked like two evenly matched teams out there- as the score reflected. And I agree that the Zawadster is the #1 goalie at this point until proven otherwise.

It was fun to watch Titanic pull that monkey off his back on the way back to the bench on Friday- and then put it to good use with that beautiful backhand on Saturday. Go get 'em, Captn'!

Note to Coach Ed: Gertsakis seems to be having Way Too Much Fun out there- more stairs? ;)

Re: Student section. It was packed, that's good. The first few years after we moved into the CC there was a core group of "cheerleaders" down at the bottom of the corner- led by "Whiteboard Man"- remember? Maybe they just need a little organization or leadership?

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

cant really say anything that has not been posted already..great fast game a ton of hitting, we threw a ton og big hits and finished all of our checks, that said the players have to watch out for jumping when they check, they may get called for it and it happened several times. The d moved the puck out of the zone very well, and the dzone coverage was very good. The powerless play hurt the team, and i am not to sure about the 1-2-1 penalty kill it looks like they are using?? 3rd platty goal our d backed way in, not good.Titanic showed great patience on his goal, reminded me of Boots winner when he waited and waited to pop it in..good for Titanic,he works hard, as did all the players. The 2 penalties we took at the ends of the periods.again not good.Zman played very well, and probably would like 1 of them back.Very nice tie, hard to think that but these guys played very well, and look forward to the next game....Hushlof has one heck of a shot.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Cadieux should've poke-checked the puck off Titanic's stick, but he didn't. Cadieux thought he let the team down but he only showed he was human. I thought we could've won that game in the 3rd period if not for the fantastic save Zawadski made point-blank on Emmerling and Gorman's missed empty netter. I think those would've done it. But, hey, we'll take the tie.

I think Oswego can beat Geneseo when they play again if they get that kind of goaltending. You're right about leaving the feet .... they could be called for those in less meaningful games. I thought Cassidy made a textbook tackle in OT that of course wasn't called.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Caught the last part of the game and the OT. Great action, and very good camera work. (Generally I mute the audio when I watch anybody except Norwich because I usually am swapping between several games and if I get the audio from one confused with the video from another my ADHD brain gets really confused :?: )

As I've said before I do think the standup and "Hockey night in Oswego" come off as a bit pretentious, but my preference is for understatement.

By the way, what is with the "4" that you put by Oswego on your score banner?

never understood leaving your feet, power comes from the legs and u drive thru the man?? the 1 open net was so close, they had a very good reply on the WTOP broadcast, looks like the puck jumped and he hit it just over the net...Cassidys no call would have been a penalty in the third, but you know the refs swallow the whistle in OT,thats ok with me as long as its not a huge hack job.2 very good teams i think, but in the end we need consistant netminding, zman played well, and yes we could take genny if he played like that.also our special teams didnt cut it,what do u think of the 1-2-1 oswego seems? to play on the pen Kill?? I m not a fan

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Galati is definitely one of the stars of the future for this team along with Hulshof, Adams, Botten and Neil at Forward and Johnson and Mac Scott on defense. I was also very impressed with Waterstreet, he threw some huge hits and really used his size well to control the puck and get a few chances.
Yes those players have skills for sure,Neil also like to throw the body as well,Bonner had some killer hits and the team as a whole was banging and played 2way hockey all night.I think we have a great combo of guys who can score, hit, backcheck pass win faceoffs etc,and some big dmen who did a great job moving the puck out of the zone, the only thing I can say is they back up to far into the dzone at times and got beat a few times on the outside.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Rivait is the only d man that isn't getting beat to the outside consistently, even Gertsakis is getting beat a lot. That is one of the area's I am sure they will be working on going forward.

Shouldn't they be going backwards?? :D

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Not a fan of the 1-2-1 kill...Platty was able to score two PP goals, which is not our strength. You're allowing the D to blast away from the top of the circle and Botting scored on it. If I had a criticism of the Laker D, I would say that they need to move those feet a little quicker. Jensen, Gorman and a couple others walked around them pretty easily. A lot of it is anticipation and experience. Platty's D doesn't allow the blow-bys. The leaving the feet thing is more of the "Playing to the crowd" than anything else. Gosek should get that taken care of.

yes the point shots are to wide open and they will/do leeds to big rebounds,at this level a aggressive is box seems more appropriate, but who knows maybe just tinkering with things? The blow byes were fairly evident as even the announcers had a few things to say about it as well,as an ex dman I understand angles etc and you have to b ready to go to where the forward is going to b,not where he was,I think playing in the Primlink against 2 fast teams also helped platty,we will pick up more experience as the season progresses.

I agree on all points - it is also true that Plattsburgh has 15 freshman/sophomores on their roster and are "a work in progress" ;)

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The rumor mill is buzzing already with a stud replacement for the graduating Cadieux. The cards will also miss Barry Roytman on defense who is having an All-American type season thus far. Seldom used Ryan Farnan is another that will be done. Then there is the dilema of captain Nick Jensen who played the opening game of the season and has not played since. I believe he has options, but the broken hand apparently hasn't improved. Hope he doesn't pull a "Beckwith" and bail. When healthy, he is arguably the best player on the team. The fact that his brother will be returning next year gives hope that he might petition the NCAA to have another year of eligibility due to injury.

Nobody on the top four lines graduates and 5 of 6 D return. This could be a good run for sure.

Looks like both Oz and Platty will have a pretty bright future, with Platty excelling now,I wouldnt mind a " stud replacement" in the net now,to solidify the netminding at Oz. Zman played well the other night, but cant see him near the chewy level for awhile.

I wouldn't say that Beckwith bailed. Only he knows his situation and reasons why he didn't come back. I hope he landed a really nice paying job and is excelling there.
I wouldn't be to worried about finding Chewys replacement. Platty always finds a great goalie somewhere. It is will be great to see how both teams mature with both having so many young talented players on each team. One can only hope that the games in the future will hold the excitement as this past game. It will give fans on each side many grey hairs.

But enough of Platty. For the Lakers I guess the question to ask will the Lakers be getting any transfers over break?? And will Gilbert heal for next semester??

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I wouldn't think they would be getting any transfers, with 33 players on the roster there are good players sitting already. I guess if someone wanted to come in Eddie probably wouldn't refuse but I don't see anyone trying it.
