WNYO just posted their highlights from this past weekend:

Rumor has it WTOP is working on putting some together as well. Will post if they materialize.

So the game against Cortland is tonight. Who do you think gets the start, Gilbert or Zawadzki? My bet is Gilbert. I don't think Gosek has given up on him yet. Thoughts?

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I would say Gilbert, he started @ Cortland last year. The goalie battle is just one of the 'headlines' for the game.

- Ongoing goalie battle
- Cortland split Fredonia/Buff St last week. (Beating Fred, losing to Buff St.)
- Backup goalie from last year Dan Jones is now an assistant in Cortland
- Cortland forward Matt Esposito (1g 1a in 2 games) was on the early list of players 'committed to Oswego' prior to the season

Interesting to see how it all shakes out...

Me's thinks we will see Gilbert.............its the rest of the line up that will be interesting,Cortland did get the split last wknd, and will be jacked up for Oz no doubt..

Hey the video worked! That was a pretty wild game. 60 minutes of penalties just for Cortland. So did you guys think that Gilbert redeemed himself? A .957 save pctg for the game isn't bad. He blocked some pretty great breakaways and made some saves I didn't think he would.

Redeemed himself isn't the right way to phrase it. He hasn't had a bad game yet. Games like Fredonia are going to happen, to both of them. Gilbert played well, got lucky a few times, overall a good game for him.

Gilbert was solid...Cortland tried their best to make it 7 - 1...based upon Digby's post game comments, there could be an overhaul on the power play ("it's a privilege to play on the PP and 2-9 is not acceptable")

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

That was a ugly game but we will take it,yes the PP was not good, and we could have let up a few shg's but gilbert did play well when needed.we had 40ish shots, but we shot many point blank shots wide probably 10 or so,also had many more blocked,to many BIG slapshots for sure.We also were a step or to off, many passes just missed, this may have been because I thought we got out hit and out hustled in many plays, that will not work, and yes cort was very chippy and paid for it in the box.The botten line is very good, and the titanic line needs to step it up,adams is very good, and the other 2 had better shift gears come Elimira, dont think for 1 second we will beat them 10-1 playing like we did last night,Elmira looks waaaay stronger than last yr,but they are taking waaay to many penalties so that will be a big thing to practice this week. I dont think we had 1 clean breakaout last night, again,Cort was hitting everyone,we got outhit for sure, and looked timid at times???I like the fact we are going to the net hard, goals will come from that, and we dont have the finishers this yr,we need more garbage goals IFO the net.Much better on faceoffs,Botten is our best faceoff man for sure.Hopefully a good week of practice and Elmira will be a good game for sure..

He played well when needed,he has a talent but I think he needs to refine his game,as in he has a lot of extra movement in and out of the crease area,I like the hare style of less is more.i think both goalies have shown that they can play well, but time will tell, and it will be interesting to see which goalie stands on his head to win a game first.

I disagree. He had a bad game vs Freddy. He made saves, but lots of them he didn't hold onto, giving Freddy lots of rebound chances. Granted, a lot of the chances they had were because of bad defense, but it was still the first game of the season. I'm sure there were nerves and butterflies. He did look MUCH better last night from what I could see.

I think this team is only going to get better as they start to gel more. They have a ton of talent on offense but the defense still needs some work.

I didn't catch any of the game last night. Does anyone have who dressed last night?

Adams-Montagna-Titanic
Neil-Botten-Galati
Waterstreet-Smith-Bonner
Badham-Barton-Rodrigues

Scott-Gertsakis
Wills-Rivait
King-Johnson

Gilbert

I personally think the defense is excellent, they have times when they get running around chasing but all teams do. The breakaways in the third happened because they got by the cherry picker in the neutral zone which teams won't be as apt to do if they start burying some of their chances. In their own zone they are miles ahead of last years team as they are not panicking in front of the net and when the situation gets unsettled they are getting back to their positions quickly. Obviously there are things that need polish, like the dreadful power play but there are a lot of things to like with this group.

Looking forward....whats up with Carr,y not in the line up,I thought he would have a breakout yr,he looked pretty good last yr and has offensive talent, injury?? or not playing the d-side of the game?? I think we will see Hulshof back in the line up vs Elmira,I think he is a finisher and we need them.still havnt seen EKS..or a few other newbies, but I guess there is only room for 18...Johnson has top offensive skill,I just hope he/we dont get caught with him in the O zone to much, our forwards must be aware he is moving up and cover,a basic thing but overlooked can lead to opponents goals.I think we see Shultz back in the game vs Elmira s well..ok who gets the start vs Elmira btwn the pipes?? Looks like this will be the daily/weekly question.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Carr could have tweaked something against Fredonia, possibly the same injury that kept him out of the scrimmage. No rush to get him or Kim-Swallow on the ice with so many players on the roster.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Carr and Kim-Swallow are both out with injuries, from reliable sources.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Yes Carr and Eli are out with injuries and there is no need to rush them back with so many warm bodies on the roster.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Now here's a question, do you think that Oswego this year could be like St. Norbert was in 2011-2012? They had lost 11 seniors to graduation that year, while Oswego lost 14 this year. They started out their season 7-4-4, after playing in a national championship the year before, and had fallen to a ranking of #8 by the time they came back from winter break. Many considered them to be a flop and out of serious play-off contention. Yet they were able to not only make the playoffs, but repeat a national championship all with a freshman goalie.

Now I'm not saying I expect Oswego to win the national championship this year. But what potential do you think Oswego has to overcome a rough first semester and surprise some people come play-off time?
