Over Under on the start of the Fire Gosek thread? Adams will get some points this year. Team got better as the game went on, not dropping below the 3rd seed in Playoffs....

Like I said earlier, not the best team to start the season with when you got a boatload of freshman. I'd rather start with Platty than Freddy.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The first 10 minutes they were cycling, getting chances and looked pretty good. Then they looked like they were pretty lost up until the last 10 minutes before a blown assignment cost them the winner in OT. Freddy is a young team as well but they looked a lot more put together than Oswego did. Oswego's upperclassmen need to be a lot better than they were tonight until all the new guys get comfortable or they will find themselves in a deep hole. They never seized momentum due to some untimely penalties and a lack of finish (nerves?) in front of the net.

Adams was good, King was rock solid and Pete Rod looked good as well. Gilbert was very good in the net, he maybe should have had the first one but the other two were unfortunate bounces. Carr, Rivait, Titanic, Gertsakis and Badham just looked like they were trying to do too much. If those guys settle down and lead the new blood they will be fine.

What is up with all the double posting?

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I agree, this year isn't about whether or not there is talent, it's about getting all the talent on the same page, buying into the same system.

You called it! A lot of talent, not on the same page yet. Oswego definitely has a bunch of skilled players, but they have a long way to go. That is a tough loss tonight, Fredonia is not a good team at all. Oswego needs to survive the first half of the season, and it will be fun to watch after the first of the year. Big fan of the Carr, Bonner, Schultz line, they are a highlight reel waiting to happen. Still looking forward to watching this develop!

If Carr, Bonner and Schultz can gel together they can be a very dangerous line. A lot of these guys have some dazzling stick handling skils but tonight the passing and shooting was not very good at all. There were no real crisp tape to tape passes all night and very few high quality shots. That could be a case of simply gripping the stick too tight which should go away with more games. At this point these guys should focus more on winning ugly at least until the chemistry comes along offensively.

I agree 100%, as you said earlier, a lot of the returners are trying to do too much at once and causing turnovers. I think the first few games will be mixing and matching to see where chemistry develops. Wouldn't be shocked to see Zawadski in net tomorrow. Kim-Swallow scratched again, wouldn't expect to see him tomorrow either.

Adams looked good, King is miles beyond where he was last season, and Botten was good on the faceoff and had good intensity. Cleaning it up in the offensive zone is a must if they want to improve going forward. Some rushes looked out of sync and once in the zone, they had trouble setting up for quality shots. Defensively, the team needs to be aware of each other and be a bit calmer. At times it felt like they were trying to force the turnover rather than keep to their assignment. Although Fredonia is by no stretch of the imagination a top-3 SUNYAC team, their freshman goalie looked very good tonight.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

As with all games the best team doesn't always win. We had the better of the scoring chances and outplayed Freddy. A tough loss though. Did see a lot of positives and some negatives. The special teams needs a bunch of work for they looked just totally confused on the Freddy ppg. The biggest thing that was missing and it is my opinion was a presence in front of the net in the offensive end both even strength and in the man advantage. Positives the 3 lines of defense look good and as mentioned Kinger looked really good and his partner Johnson really impressed me. If they can stay healthy that will be a great pair to have on the ice. Probably the best thing I saw which wasn't always the case in past laker teams was a good hustle effort by every one. No one took a shift off. Gilbert was OK. The goals he let in weren't his fault, a 3 on 1, a ppg, and the one in the end where there was a big crowd in front and No one picked up the shooter for the game winner. I will agree that he will probably not start tomorrow. Over all a nice game with all the new faces.

Sometimes you don't fully appreciate what you have/had until its gone...closers...finishers...chemistry...may take awhile for this group to help us forget the guys who just left...but they will. Enough about Lakers past - here's to supporting the Lakers of the present and future...:D

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I usually don't write in these forums, but I have a few comments on last night's game. I thought Oswego showed a lot of hustle and enthusiasm, but they seemed lost at times and ran out of gas at the last 5 -6 min. of each period. They were also slow getting their shots & passes off. I don't believe any of their short comings are not able to be fixed, but they need to improve quickly as not to allow doubt to creep into minds. All in all I think this team has great potential, and will be exciting to watch. Go Lakers.

Sort of, but no pay off. No goals in the 3rd. Lost in OT at home. Gotta win the games at home, gents.

I think the pressure/expectations of playing on a historically top performing team combined with the loss of so many quality players puts a lot of stress on the returning players, not that "anyone' is pressuring them, it is the reality of the situation. Though unintentional, it is going to be at the very least a subconscious self imposed stress, but the TEAM has talent, and they will settle down and lead/integrate with the new blood and they will be fine - just how close to "over-night" it will be is the question.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

my 2 cents..had a feeling it was going to b a rough start..I liked the line-up,thought Willis would be in it?? My video was not good..THE BAD,faceoffs, dzone coverage we did a lot of watching the puck, the new guys will learn this is not jr's and they had to give the puck up,they will not skate thru the whole team, even if its freddy,we got caught several times with this, our 2 new dmen must play defense FIRST,then rush the puck..Our penalty kill was waaaaay to passive, our dmen backed up to the faceoff dots b4 challegning,Freedy got in the zone waaay to ez... Lets get guys to the front of the net....THE GOOD..lots of hustle and the guys finished checks well, forcheck was very good at times but did seem to slack at period ends.we have some guys who can handle the puck for sure.only our 1st game,we will b ok after some game experience..THE UGLY...lost to freddie in OT at home:eek: ..as for players, gilbert played ok,adams can fly and he hustles and hits as does bonner and neil and the rest of the guys .. will b interesting to see the line-up 2night,Buff state is usually at chippy team,we will need to chill at times.ps reffing was ok at best, it was their first game as well...how was the crowd, couldnt really tell?

My video was not good..

Hey, anyone know what the deal is with their video feed? How come NHL Gamecenter Live streams at high resolution to my HTPC at around 50% cpu, but Oswego games, in rather low resolution, pin the cpu at 100% and freeze constantly. It's not my internet connection (high bandwidth comcast) and I'm using full gigabit ethernet all around, with a dual core opteron 180 and a radeon 4650 gpu.

I will forward your specs to the tech guys at Oz - the streaming computer was replaced Thursday and SideArm Sports, the company that provides and maintains the video player for athletics activated VBR on Friday....I had three screens running last night - Samsung 55" smart tv, 1st gen iPad and the latest apple mini feeding a cinema display using thunderbolt....all fed off my apple airport wifi....no problems during the broadcast....some "sticking" during the OT that lasted less than a second....try closing all other programs, especially social media, clear your cache, and restart your pc.....if you want to connect to me directly, you can use the email in my uscho profile. PS have no clue regarding NHL Game Center and your cpu

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Disappointing loss last night. Got home late from work and watched it on line with some Chinese food. The first 6-7 minutes were unreal. Constant pressure in the offensive zone. Only problem was they didn't convert. The three on one goal against is a breakdown and at this level will result in a goal the majority of the times. You can't have odd man rushes against and you must own the blue lines at both ends of the rink. The OT goal was extremely frustrating to watch. The Big D Man, Rivait, took the man into the corner and when the Fredonia player stopped, he did a big giant rink turn or Boston turn, depending on where you are from, away from the puck carrier. If he would have stopped and stayed there, the puck would have never been centered to the front of the net. There are some good new players but as Bakdraft said this isn't juniors. Without naming names, a few newbies better figure out that there are corners at this level and that the puck won't simply find them. Ed will be inserting kids in and out of the lineup all year, finally settling on those who want the puck and not just wait for it. Last but not least, for the poster who makes mention of inquiring or starting up the "fire Gosek" thread, that's completely without merit. I coach a varsity high school team, peewee hockey and played myself and have had numerous communications with Ed over the last few years via email and at USA Hockey seminars. This guy is the best thing in college hockey. He gets the game, the players and motivation. Whatever he gets out of the kids year to year is a lot more than anyone else would.

welcome to the boards, and you seem to know your stuff, especially that you agreed with me on the Jr's thing .lol, and your right, they need to get the puck, and not dipsy doodle so much, they will learn either by watching in a suit or getting knocked on their butts a few times, which will happen, I try and not personalize thigns with to many names unless its a positive thing as well, anyway the fire Gosek thing is a running joke on these boards,no disrespect for Coach Gosek,I think its more like hey you lost a game,y??,your coach Gosek, more a respect thing than anything else, as we have much respect for coach Emery...Lets hope we have a better showing in a few hrs,,ENJOY..
