Official 2015 BottomFeeder Bracketology and Site Selection Thread

Re: Official 2015 BottomFeeder Bracketology and Site Selection Thread

I can't really say my team (NMU) was screwed out of this tournament. We could have played for that OTHER tournament in the first half of the season, but in the second half, we were terrible.

I guess we need to suck over the entire season to make it into this one.

BottomFeedersBracket awards MIDWEST regional to:

Fremont-Sandusky County Recreation Center, Fremont OH

The pictures don't do the place justice. Management guarantees us the conditions will be horrible.

BottomFeedersBracket awards EASTERN regional:

Wright Township Municipal Park, Wright Twp PA

Breaking with tradition, this event will be OUTDOORS. The township is bankrupt and can't repair the damage that roler-blading and skateboarding caused last summer.

OK, folks. Time for the FINAL edition of BottomFeedersBracketology.
The road to the Futile4 at the Pontiac Silverdome begins right here.

Here's the field, as determined by FARTS.

1. American International
2. Niagara
3. Army
4. Princeton
5. Wisconsin
6. Holy Cross
7. Lake Superior
8. Air Force
9. Sacred Heart
10. Alabama-Huntsville
11. Alaska-Anchorage
12. Colorado College
13. Brown
14. Rensselaer
15. Clarkson
16. Massachusetts

First we place the #1 seeds, sending the highest seeds as far as possible from their home.
#1 American International goes to the WEST Regional at Winter Park-Fraser Colorado
#2 Niagara goes to the NORTHEAST Regional at Canton MA
#3 Army goes to the MIDWEST Regional at Fremont OH
#4 Princeton makes the short trip to the EAST Regional at Wright Twp PA

Now we place the 5-8 seeds in reverse order:
#5 Wisconsin goes to the Princeton bracket in Pennsylvania
#6 Holy Cross goes to the Army bracket in Ohio
#7 Lake Superior goes to the Niagaga bracket in Massachusetts
#8 Air Force goes to AIC's bracket in Colorado.

Now place the #3 seeds so we get 8v9, 7v10, 6v11 and 5v12.
#9 Sacred Heart goes against Air Force in the WEST regional
#10 Huntsville goes against #7 Lake Superior in the NEAST regional
#11 Anchorage will face #6 Holy Cross in the MIDWEST regional
#12 Colorado College heads EAST to face Wisconsin.

Finally, round out the field with the #4 seeds.
#13 Brown is matched against #4 Princeton in the Pennsylvania (EAST) regional
#14 Rensselaer draws #3 Army at Fremont OH (M'WEST)
#15 Clarkson would meet #2 Niagara at Canton MA (N'EAST)
#16 Massachusetts heads WEST to Colorado, where they face AIC

Let's take a moment, pour another vodka and see what's wrong with these brackets.

Re: Official 2015 BottomFeeder Bracketology and Site Selection Thread

Here's what we have, before we start messing around:

WEST (Winter Park-Fraser CO)
1. AIC
2. Air Force
3. Sacred Heart
4. Mass

MIDWEST (Fremont OH)
1. Army
2. Holy Cross
3. Anchorage
4. Rensselaer

NORTHEAST (Canton MA)
1. Niagara
2. Lake Superior
3. Huntsville
4. Clarkson

EAST (Wright Twp PA)
1. Princeton
2. Wisconsin
3. Colorado Col
4. Brown

As difficult as it usually is with so many Atlantic Hockey teams in the field, we TRY to avoid first round match-ups between conference foes. Surprisingly, only ONE of the THREE conflicts involve AH teams. Swapping the others while avoiding more conflicts may be difficult, but let's give it a try.

The BAD match-ups are:
Air Force vs. Sacred Heart is the WEST
Lake Superior vs Huntsville in the N'EAST
Princeton vs. Brown in the EAST

Conventional wisdom says swap the lower seed (Sacred Heart) out of the WEST, but the committee is looking ahead to the next step (minimizing attendance and maximizing travel hardships) so we're going to kill two birds with one stone and swap the #2 seeds from the WEST and NORTHEAST. We'll send Lake Superior to Colorado and send Air Force to Massachusetts.

That leaves us with just the Princeton-Brown match-up in the EAST regional. As the #4 band is dominated by ECAC teams, the only place we can send Brown is WEST, bringing U Mass back EAST to Pennsylvania. Too bad, we were hoping to make AIC and U-Mass (just 26 miles apart) travel across three time zones to play...but it's almost as good to send Brown (just 84 miles from AIC) on that same trip.

Well, unless there are any serious objections, here are the brackets:

WEST
1. AIC
2. Lake Superior
3. Sacred Heart
4. Brown

MIDWEST
1. Army
2. Holy Cross
3. Alaska-Anchorage
4. Rensselaer

NORTHEAST
1. Niagara
2. Air Force
3. Alabama-Huntsville
4. Clarkson

EAST
1. Princeton
2. Wisconsin
3. Colorado College
4. Massachusetts

We are intrigued by the "jet-propulsion" match-up between Air Force and Huntsville.

Regional games will be played Sunday and Monday March 29-30.

One minor typo in second paragraph labeled BAD match-ups: should be Air Force vs Sacred Heart, vs Holy Cross, as correctly noted later on.

Now, need to get the old ham radio kit from the attic fired up."

The committee is intoxicated and claims no responsibility for ticky-tack errors...like getting Sacred Cross and Holy Heart confused.

Totally understandable.

One interesting aspect of the Winter Park (West) bracket is the match-up between AIC and UMass, who play a mere 15 miles from one another in western Massachusetts.

The Midwest regional has the unfortunate distinction of being played during the prime time hours. The organizer, KC8XFU, has informed me that we will be using frequencies on 10 meters to broadcast, as assurances have been made that the band will be dead in that area at that time of night.

We don't do jets here. We do rockets. Also, we've both had astronauts as graduates, although the Zoomies have a bit more than we do ...

The Committee would like to remind you that this is the BFB: IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!

Re: Official 2015 BottomFeeder Bracketology and Site Selection Thread

Have we explicitly banned Air Force from flying to their first-round location? And what amount of humiliation is just enough for our service academies?

Air Force will be sharing an old bus with elderly casino travelers.

Re: Official 2015 BottomFeeder Bracketology and Site Selection Thread

We're still deciding how Army should travel. They DO have those transport trucks... throw the gear and the team in the back and drive.

Re: Official 2015 BottomFeeder Bracketology and Site Selection Thread

seems reasonable though. not sure if you should go with it.
