Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Cammarata and Kloos where what I call "fringe" players. Neither really liked playing in the "inside". Waterloos big sheet help this line allot and supported their style of play. I think the two will struggle to have the same kind of success at the college level and question if they can even play "inside".

Let me preface this by apologizing to Mavs fans for usurping your thread for a minute... but this is too good to pass up.

You act as if it was Waterloo's Olympic rink that really drove much of the success rate for kids like Cammy or Kloos. Over half of Cammy's points (48 of 93 points) were on the road this year. Kloos had almost half of his points on the road (42 of 87). Since it is usually tougher to score in an opponent's barn, I'd say they were rather consistent on any size rink (sorry... "truth hurts").

These kids have had critics saying stuff about them due to their size long before this... funny how they continue to defy those comments even when they step up in competition.

Considering a healthy amount of their future college games will continue to be on the big sheet and they've managed to show similar success on regulation rinks, I think they'll be OK. lol

Congrats on Stepan! I hope that sets the Mavs up to dominate the newW in perpetuity. (Oh and about Cammy and Kloos, size will not make them less effective esp at the Mooch...but may mean that Kato and other schools see them for four full years).

Okay, Williams got drafted by the Islanders. Given that goalies take longer to be ready for the big time, does NY encourage him to stay for four, or do they get him out earlier if he has another great year so he can play more in the minors?

Good for Stephon to get the recognition, and he certainly deserved it, but not sure what the Isles' thought process was, given they picked another college goalie just before Stephon. See which one has a better year, and push that goalie to take a minor league contract? Sit back and wait and see how both develop, hoping you can use one as trade bait later?
If Stephon has another big year, I do wonder if there will be sort of a "What more do I have to prove at this level?" feeling for him and the Isles.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

I got my season-ticket renewal packet in the mail on Wednesday. I was unhappily surprised to find out that we will be required to purchase tickets for the "Minnesota Cup" tournament at the X in January as part of the package. While they couldn't seem to answer me about the breakdown of prices on the individual tickets in the package, it appears that those two games in St. Paul account for 20% of the cost of season tickets.

I'm basing this on their statement that they've kept ticket prices the same as last year. Last year tickets were $16 for most games, $32 for "premium" games. A single season ticket is $320. There are 16 home games listed, and the two at the X. If you calculate 16 games at $16, and 2 games at $32, you end up with $320. Now, I can't imagine that they are charging "premium" games for any of the home games listed, and they couldn't (wouldn't) answer that for me, so I have to assume that the tournament is "premium." So, 2 tickets at $32 apiece is $64, or 20% of $320.

The guy promised me he'd get the breakdown on pricing for me and email it to me. Two days later and he hasn't done so. I'm not happy.

Tickets were completely optional with the UMD season ticket package. Odd that those are required tickets to purchase.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Based on what I'm reading, tickets were more than $320 last year? There had to be more than two "premium" games. Your opponents at the X tournament are the only ones I'd classify as "premium" in this first year of the new WCHA, so I don't see a huge deal here. Sucks, but not earth-shattering. Tickets to the tournament are also included in the Gopher season ticket package. I feel like they'll need all the bodies they can get in there, to be honest.

That's their problem, not mine. I don't want 20% of the cost of my tickets to be for games that are 90 miles away, and that I have no intention of attending.

Funny, the MSU athletics office assured me that all of the participants of the tournament were including those games in their season ticket packages.

Well, it's on the website, so I guess we've made it official now. http://www.msumavericks.com/documents/2013/7/11/2013-14_Season_tickets_Brochure.pdf?&tab=4

But hey, it's "Sure to be an instant classic" so how can you argue with getting whacked $32/ticket?

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

What did you guys expect them to do? Lower the prices? With as much uncertainty around the program right now, the worst thing they could do for the health of the program is plan on reduced revenues. You are getting tickets to 2 extra games (and I would argue that more people want those tickets included than those that don't). So say you eliminate the "premium" from those games and you're paying $32 more. Is that really that big of a deal?

I don't want those two games at all, and we should not be REQUIRED to buy tickets to games 90 miles away as part of a season ticket package. Why would I want to drive 180 miles round trip, plus pay for parking, for a non-conference game against Duluth? Then do it again the next day against either St. Cloud or the Gophers. It's a very big deal to me, based on the principle of the thing.

Reduced ticket prices does not equal reduced revenue necessarily. Reduced prices might have attracted more buyers, and conversely maintaining the price while reducing the perceived quality of the competition might drive down demand, thus reducing revenue.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

The team is coming off one of the top 2, if not best season in school history. The team this year should be the best in history. As the on ice product continues to improve, prices should go up. I think this is along the mentality that people need to be at the games to see the home team, not other teams. Having the Minnesota Cup included in the package will increase the support the team has in St. Paul as people will already have the tickets in hand.

If you don't like it, don't buy tickets.

Honestly, I think you're in the minority on the MN Cup. Most people that I've talked to are excited about it. Maybe I haven't talked to enough people, but that's been the impression that I've gotten.

I also agree that as the on-ice product goes up, prices will go up. It's a chicken or the egg argument. No one knows the correct answer.

I understand and sympathize with your concerns. I would have the same problem if the roles were reversed and I had to buy tickets in Kato as part of my package. I would complain to the AD (as I did when UMN added seat fees). But you will likely be stuck just like I was. The best you can do is complain, then either cancel your tix or try to sell the MN Cup games on Stubhub or Craigslist. Good luck.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Just a thought.. We don't use scanners at the door for our tickets.. The X does.. Will this be an additional upgrade for te Verizon Center?

Yeah, the guy in the athletics office trotted out that line. If the other team doesn't matter, why do they have "premium" pricing for some games and not others? By the way, neither Duluth nor St. Cloud is including the Minnesota Cup games as required in their season ticket packages, just making them available. Why only Mankato?

If you don't like it, don't buy tickets.
Strong possibility.
