Bill, if it turns out they are blacking out something that they don't need to -- then that's truly stupid and idiotic. However, I can't imagine in this day and age that it's the case. Maybe we'll find out but I am betting there's some issue between Fox and ESPN thats to blame.

I am open to any theories and explanations. I really would love to know what the deal is. Especially if tonight's game magically is unrestricted. Which I doubt

Unless the process has radically changed since I was in the biz, the responsible party for blacking out something is not the programmer (FOX Sports North in this instance) but the multichannel provider carrying the programming (in this case, DTV, or DISH, or a cable TV service). FOX Sports North purchased from ESPN the rights to carry this programming. In addition to a dollar amount, ESPN can certainly negotiate all sorts of additional items in exchange for allowing FOX Sports North to carry the programming. One of those things can certainly be a limit of the coverage to a "local" footprint. I didn't sit in on the conference call when the contract was drawn up and agreed upon, but I know enough about the animosity between FOX sports and all sorts of entities, including ESPN. And ESPN is not exactly a favorite of everyone THEY do business with. It is completely within belief that the contracts NESN or Altitude signed for the right to syndicate a game are quite different than the one FOX signed.

I'm not sure what this adds, but I am in Green Bay - which is FSN North territory but on the Wisconsin side. FSN here is airing HS wrestling. The Gopher game is on FCS Pacific but not the mother ship.

Bucks coverage starts at 7 central but that wouldn't affect the early games.

Exactly, that's what I was trying to say. Maybe we'll find out what's going on, but I know for sure the animosity between Fox and ESPN is something that has been widely reported over the years and very likely played a factor here.

I just got confirmation from FSN that this is exactly what happened. NESN and Altitude didn't have restrictions, FSN did. Puck ESPN.

Somebody at NCAA should answer for this as well. To have this restriction hurts college hockey fans

NCAA broadcast division has been helpful to me in the past when it came to questions I had in regards to baseball-softball regionals tv questions. I'll be contacting them on Monday about this abomination. At least have consistency with all RSN's

Obviously the only "restrictions" involve FSN affiliates. I'd plan on blackouts again if the only regional network televising it is FSN North again.

I poked around the FSN NORTH Facebook page, very interesting stuff. I wasn't shocked at things posted here yesterday, just don't always jump into the conspiracy theory as the first option. It has been a pleasure chatting with you guys here and hope this thread helped at least some people out in finding the game they wanted.

I will be very adamant as to finding why for the first time in history that FSN North had territorial restrictions for college hockey and keep you guys posted
