Official 2012-13 Miami Season Thread: Baby boom!

As I said over at MHT, I think it's a real shame that ND and Michigan aren't willing to continue scheduling with Miami going forward. We have developed a great rivalry with Michigan in particular and (in most years), both teams benefit from the level of competition and excitement surrounding the games. Michigan always gets the biggest and most enthusiastic crowd at the Goggin and it will be sad to lose that. Perhaps things will change down the road after everything with the new conferences settles down.

That being said, I am super excited to get some new teams coming into Oxford. I'm sure everyone will enjoy an opportunity to battle a B*ston school in our own barn.

Pretty sure that it's an urban legend that "B+ston schools travel."

It's going to be much harder to market playing UND or even BU to the average Miami student. It can certainly be done. It's just harder as Michigan and Notre Dame are polarizing institutions.

This is right on the mark! For actual hockey (and more importantly, Miami hockey) fans, those two clubs (NoDak & BU) are perrenial contendors that we would love to play. Unfortunately, these are not schools that play D1 in the two 'power sports.' I would be surprised if even half of the students at the games (if polled) knew those clubs' mascot, let alone their history or importance to college hockey.

'Tis sad...

Then perhaps this will lead to a more hockey-educated student fan base! (wishful thinking, I know)

I don't think we'll have any problem getting students excited about BU coming to town. They may not have been around in 2009, but any self-respecting Miami hockey fan would be aware of that travesty of a game and want revenge, even if it has to come in a regular season non-conference game.

I found the this weeks Bracketology pretty fascinating. I thought all of the regions were pretty equitable with no one having a clear path the the FF. Pretty solid.

Game Day!

The tribes go forth to war,
Their scalp songs ring afar;
Bright the blood-red camp fires gleaming,
Mad with thrist the war-hawks screaming,
Signal smoke soars high,
Beckons in the sky,
Old men shake their calabashes,
Warriors dance amid the ashes,
Maides sobbing, war-drums throbbing, WAR!

Sweet the vict'ry and the conquest,
Calm the rest among the slain;
Sons of centuries of heroes,
Seek the fruit, despise the pain.
Watch Miami, now,
See the SPACE BEARS bow,
Far and wide their host is scattered,
Spears are broken, shields are battered;
Miami! Yuh! Yuh! Yuh! Yuh!
Miami! Yuh! Yuh! Yuh! Yuh!
Race them, chase them, pound them, Wow!

Wasn't expecting this to be a big weekend coming out of break, but wouldn't you know, the campus destroying ursas went and got hot on the back of a freshman goaltender who clearly missed the memo that only Miami players were supposed to win CCHA ROtM awards this season. More 2-1 games? Yup, more 2-1 games.

(Trying to inject a little enthusiasm into this thread :D)

Good work injecting some enthusiasm in the thread, I can feel it. Looking back to the series earlier this year up in Fairbanks, Miami scored a whopping 9 (not a typo) goals in that series. Here's to thinking we could score more than two goals in a game...cheers!

Some love for hockey in the new admissions video around the 4:00 mark. Football and basketball are conspicuously absent. Knowing full well that rankings rule all when it comes to high school students and their parents, the powers to be certainly aren't shying away from the top 10 party school ranking. Can't believe they took a camera into Brick for this thing :D

MORE ENTHUSIASM!!!

I love the picture on Miami's website for the Hockey City Classic, a sold out crowd may be a bit on the optimistic side :p

Anyway, lets keep building ont he last few games and have a good showing against he space bears, hopefully we see a repeat of Fairbanks earlier this year.

Yea, **** him :D

Got some help from the Bucks tonight, just need WMU to drop points tomorrow.

I know they helped, but I dont like to think of it that way. Still have 4 of our 9 games left against "why western?" And notre. So we still controlled our destiny. But ohio st has helped to make it more of a two team race ;)

Can you explain "why Western?".... I'm half certain its a jab at our program but I'd at least like to understand it....

I'm excited for next weekend, in the last 5 games between us Western is 1-4-0, however none of those game have been at Lawson.... We've done extremely well on home ice this year and I hope its the change we need to finally take points from Miami. Its absolutely refreshing to see that the only two teams from our conference in the NCHC next year are #1-2 in the last year of the CCHA. Best of luck tomorrow and I hope to see plenty of RedHawks at Lawson!

I think you should ask your athletic department why western, they created the website asking why.

"Why Western?" was the tag line for a marketing campaign your athletic department launched to lobby for a spot in the NCHC.

Just bought some tickets for Saturday's game at Lawson last night - looking forward to my first, of what I'm sure will be many in the coming years, trip out there. Considering it will be about the only manageable conference road game for either fan base :mad:
