Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread: Short People Leave Big Shoes to Fill

These were from before OSU (National Ranks)

PIM
2011-2012 - 4th
2010-2011 - 12th
2009-2010 - 2nd
2008-2009 - 19th

PK
2011-2012 - 29th (82%)
2010-2011 - 2nd (88.3%)
2009-2010 - 7th (86%)
2008-2009 - 2nd (89%)

Penalties have never bothered me too much...until this year. I usually find that penalties can be a pretty good indicator (one, but not the only) of the aggressive level of a hockey club. That being said, there is an interesting correlation in the stats above between good teams that are heavily penalized and a good-to-great PK. This year's PK is a long way from the "Miami Standard."

It would be interesting to see just how strong of a correlation there is between high penalty min / high penalty kill % and wins. Another thing I would be interested to look at is the relationship between number of hits and team success. In an NHL playoff series, the more physical team usually has the advantage, so I wonder if a 2 game college series is long enough for hitting to have a noticeable impact.

Alright, no games until January, I'm ready for WJC.

Looks like Connor Murphy finally got on the ice this weekend for Sarnia. Surprising he was left off the camp roster, most projections had him going if he was healthy.

Hope Austin has a good camp, tough competition with Gaudreau, Rau and Tynan for resident diminutive forward(s).

Drafty things.

Pat Sieloff has jumped into TSN's Top 60 draft eligible prospects.

2012 Top 60

I was about to feel old when I saw #2 on that list, but I looked, no relation. Phew. Forsberg is younger than I thought.

Sure we will see quite a few future RedHawks on the Mid-Season Rankings next month, in addition to Czarnik.

I know we're a week past it now but I heard today from a friend who has a connection to Miami's hockey team that the same ref who was hitting on the girls at 45 after the game was also hiiting on a girl before the game who's one of Miami's trainers. I don't know whether to be angry at this guy or feel sorry for him if he's so desperate.

Maybe I'm old but I remember the creeper as a character from the original Scooby Doo's. lol! Come to think of it he and that ref had some similarities.

(1st page bump)

Made a spreadsheet to pull these ahwile ago for my own amusement. Matt Joyaux has been idling at 2 GP since he made the jump to the U, don't know if he's hurt or a scratch.

Kuraly is on pace to double his point total from last year (29) and already has nearly twice the goals (8).

Ryan Jones Jr. has slowed down a bit, but is maintaining a respectable 6:1 G to A ratio :D

Well there is a basis to predict a Miami victory :)

Miami: 0-5 vs. teams ranked 101+ in the RPI
Miami: 2-1 vs. teams in the top 100 in the RPI

Back to reality, Miami is a 26 point dog. We'll lose by 45. Fire Charlie Coles.

The game is at Nationwide, correct?

At least you are used to seeing your team lose in that buliding, should be pretty routine ;)

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread: Short People Leave Big Shoes to Fill

Congrats to Austin!

Sounds like he played his way on to the roster last night, whoop whoop

Congrats to Czarnik. He beat the odds going in, so good for him. Czarnik joins fellow Miamians Nathan Davis, Jeff Zatkoff, Kevyn Adams, and maybe Greg Dornbach, who have made the U.S. junior team, although I am not certain about Dornbach. I seem to remember him going, but I am not sure. Any others I might have missed?
