Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Congrats on the Championship Miami! Good luck in the NCAA.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

So do any MU boosters think it would have been better for the NCAA to have placed teams so we didn't have three potential conference tourney rematches (the midwest region has one)? Oh wait, after the epic beatdown you guys put on us, maybe not... Congrats on the Mason Cup.

It would be nice, but I understand why it has to happen. I'm not saying this because I think we'd win, but rather for CCHA bragging rights. I'd love to see you guys again should we be fortunate enough to defeat UNH.

I'm assuming the potential rematch won't be such a beatdown. I hope it is the same result ;), but I think your boys would know to come out firing.

If anyone is in the Columbus area this weekend, we've got game watches set up at Fado Irish Pub in Easton. 50% off the entire food menu and free drinks for the first 10 to confirm on the Facebook Events.

Saturday Game Watch
Sunday Game Watch (if Miami advances, of course...)

I may come lol. I have to be in columbus for work on sunday so should they win saturday I will definantly be there for sunday. With as much as I have been traveling lately and to come not sure if the wife will let me out early lol.

Going to be honest, nervous about this draw. Not happy with the NCAA to be frank, not sure why they can make exceptions for Michigan and not us but its the hand we were dealt so got to deal with it. Positive thing is the program has done this before beating UNH in Manchester in the tourny and this team has played UNH 4 times the past two years so they know what they are getting themselves into. UNH will be a tough draw, I know both teams are vastly different from the frist two games of the year but for me goaltending will make the difference. The other side of the draw scares me as well. Should Miami get past UNH, I don't want to face ND again. I see dejavu if we have to, kind of what happened with us and Michigan a year ago. But then again Merrimack has answered all questions asked of them this year. With that said, I would caution both ND and Merrimack fans on the fact that yes you have had great seasons but the NCAA tournament is a whole different bag of seed. Experience plays a HUGE part in these pressure packed games. I think ND found that out last weekend in the CCHA tourny. All 4 of these teams are very skilled and there is a reason they are in the tournament but it is the little things that sets each of them apart. This isn't my bias speaking but the reason I like Miami to come out of this reagion is because it is a team ladden with upperclassmen who have been to two frozen fours and get the pressure of the tournament and won't be blind sided by it. Now Miami proved 2 years ago with their title game run that it can be done with freshmen and sophmores but I would still prefer a veteran team with talent and experience. However I think this is the toughest region and will be the most entertaining.

Here is how I see it going down:

Miami 4 UNH 2
ND 4 Merrimack 5

Miami 4 Merrimack 2

This is hard to predict. I just don't know anything, admittedly, about Merrimack should we be fortunate enough to face them. I love how this team is playing and it feels like we should advance out of this bracket, but UNH and Merrimack appear to be two very good teams. I do believe Merrimack will beat Notre Dame, but that's mainly stemming from how poor they looked last weekend. Deer in headlights against us. Maybe they got that freshman nervousness out of their system, but I highly doubt it. The tournament is a whole different animal as our program knows all too well.

I tell ya, was looking around and got to be honest I had no idea Reily Smith had 54 points! 28 goals 26 assits, what a fantastic season! Boy I hope he sticks around, just imagine him playing next year on a line with Blake Coleman and Tyler Biggs...

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

I recorded a college sports podcast this week and interviews Ken Schott of the Daily Gazette of Schenectady. The show was co-hosted by Yale recruit and USHL player Anthony Day. We also mixed in an interview with Zach Rosenfield from a cool site called Accuscore. I mention it here especially because if you are a Miami fan you should save the link, when Carter Camper finishes his playing days he is set to appear. See the link below.

Excellent. Thanks.

Wanna see his stats get more impressive?

Thats 28 goals... on only 92 shots! Put the puck on net more Reilly!!! :D
Seriously, thats a 30.4% goal to shot ratio.

Cam Atkinson only has 2 more goals, and 78 more shots (170) for a 17.6%.

The Lawnboy out in North Dakota? 7 more goals, on 81 more shots (173) for 20.2%

If they both had only taken as many as Reilly, they would have 16 and 18 goals respectively.

If Reilly had as many shots as them... 53 goals.

While I see where you are going with this, that is unrealistic. He just doesn't have the puck on his stick enough, playing with Miele he has the puck and reily just finishes. His game is to find the open space to receive a pass don't dangle and creat chances with the puck. Its a style of play thing, nothing more nothing less.

Something else I saw though. Miami was only shut out once, in january against Ohio st. They scored only 1 goal twice. So out of 41 games miami scored less than 2 goals only 3 times. That is encouraging heading into this weekend that if the defense can keep playing well Miami will score there goals, just got to keep them out of our net.

Just my two cents as someone who has seen three of the four teams...these games are all about matchups - the stats don't matter. Merrimack is a very difficult team to play against because they block shots, clog the neutral zone and bang in the corners. They control the tempo of the game. You don't want to get behind against them - they're a totally different team when they have to come from behind. UNH is a Jekyl and Hyde team. They can play like the best team in the country and when they get rolling they can pile up the goals...OR...they can come out flat and listless - and you never know which one you'll get. But if they get you playing at their tempo and they have good goaltending, look out. So, I'm not making any predictions, but I really wouldn't be surprised at ANY permutation of results in that regional!!

A great read to start your (game)day... College Hockey News: Turning Point

I'm so ready for this. There was some great hockey played last night and that BC/CC game was absolutely insane. There are NO "BOSTON" TEAMS left in this tournament. That means we win automatically...right? ;)

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

I'm watching Game #1 of the Midwest Regional before I head out to the Washington, DC Alumni Association Game Watch (@ the Old Dominion Brewhouse on 9th for anyone not aware). Anyway, RPI is looking pretty good. They're down 1-0 AFTER 10 minutes, but they really seem to be skating well. If they could stay out of the box, they'd have a chance. Nice aggressive style from their forwards in the offensive zone. Their back checking leaves much to be desired and giving up WAY too many shots, but they're not being out-classed by any stretch.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Just not our day today. UNH played GREAT team defense. Congrats to them and thank you to all our seniors who took us to Back-to-Back Frozen Four's.

Time to reload, baby! Can't wait to see this incoming class which looks amazing.

Go RedHawks!

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Not our day is right. UNH blocked all of our shots and killed us in transition. They definitely were the better team and deserved to win.

They had a great season though and they made history. Can't wait for next year!
