Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

I understand your "Let's see what we've got" stance. Last year, I was almost giddy with the expectation when thinking of the start of the season. This season, I'm much more calm about it...maybe i'm just wiser, but I doubt that. lol.

With respect to the leadership, I think that, since we're not in the practices, we will have to wait until the start of the season. In pure speculation, I imagine we'll see Patty C and Will Webber emerge. I would also not be surprised if A.M. steps up. The guy that I was expecting to last year (and was disappointed when he didn't) was Carter Camper.

You do know who the captains are right?

Listen Im not pulling some of this out of my tail. Losing Ryan jones was a big loss but Tommy Wingles was there to step in. Not much turnover from last years team but there doesn't seem to be that guy here. Now guys change and grow up, so like I said think we need to be patient. Someone may step up and it would be needed. But just think it might be a slower start to the season than we have had in past years and people are quick to turn. I still think without a doubt this is a tourny team but wouldn't be surprised if they were hovering around .500 come November.

So a little birdie told me there is a hockey game today :D

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Blake Coleman had two goals for Indy last night, and Jimmy Mullin had a goal in his first USHL game. Cody Murphy had eight shots, but no points in his game. Jay Willaims did not play in his team's opener.

Hey, remember that time I said I wouldn't be surprised if Hirsch got 25 points this year and nobody else could believe it.

Well someone has a hattrick already in todays exhibition :D

???? ....seriously....

Good performance today by the boys. Minimal competition but to hold a team of any caliber in check the way they have is encouraging to see.

I thought you said 25 goals...points, I can definitely believe. Good start for him. Hopefully he keeps it up when it counts.

CMac and R. Smith were scratches today I heard?

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

CMac, R. Smith, and Spinell were scratches.

Hirsch played out of his mind today, hopefully that continues throughout the season.

Both freshman looked pretty good, granted competition wasn't great.

VAIVE looked much quicker on his feet, hopefully that is a sign of good things from him.

I was impressed with Pat Tiesling and Steve Mason as well.

Miele had some sick moves and I think he will be the go to guy to score some huge goals for us this season.

Only thing I'm a bit weary of going into next week is the lack of pressure put on Reichard and Knapp. Wish they could have gotten a little more of a challenge today to get more prepared for next weekend. Should be some great games.

Nah said points. I was just being sarcastic about him netting three today. The odds on him hitting 25 goals would be pretty steep given that only Jonesy and Mercier have scored that many in a season this past decade.

Curious what the lineups will look like this weekend. Obviously hope to see Reilly and C Mac dressed again. Looking at collegehockeystats the lines were pretty well spread out too.
http://collegehockeystats.net/1011/boxes/mmiawat1.o03

Ties/Camper/Hirsch
Kennedy:eek: /Cannone/Mantha
Paulazzo/Miele/Mason
VAIVE/Cook/Vogelhuber

Kennedy at forward? Hopefully that works out better than the Brandon Smith experiment.

Kennedy was there out of necessity not as an experiment.

wouldn't worry about Knapp or Reichard, they have seen plenty of competition the last couple years. Experience as a junior plays a big part in it, if this was their freshman year I could see that concern but not as juniors who have both played in a frozen four game.

I am just glad to see Knapp out there, I would expect a big big year out of him

We almost died when he was carrying the puck across the blue line in the 2nd and fought through a check against the boards, keeping control of the puck. Maybe a sign of big things to come from mister VAIVE...then again he completely fanned on two or three golden opportunities. Some things never change :p

I wasn't saying I was worried about their experience as a whole because obviously that is just ridiculous. But coming into a new season and going straight into a huge series against NH it would have been nice to build a little confidence in a real game situation. I know these guys face tons of shots in practice and such but nothing quite compares to a big game situation which these two guys haven't had since last year.

I know both these guys will be ready to go but a little more experience never hurt anyone.

Haha very true. VAIVE coming through the neutral zone and bringing the puck into the zone and fighting off a check was impressive. He did miss some opportunities though as you said. It didn't only seem to be VAIVE though. We had a lot of good centering passes where guys seemed to swing and miss. Hopefully we can convert on some of those next weekend.

There was a little rust all around, Cannone had a couple questionable passes (unlike his usual tape to tape self), but for the most part things looked fine by the third.

In other news, correct me if I'm wrong, but our dear dear friend and hockey correspondent at the Miami Student has moved on. I guess we shall find out tomorrow who has been chosen to carry the torch of cliched titles and slogan laden articles.

In case you missed it, the Hawks took off against Waterloo Sunday. Led by senior captain Carter Camper, the Red and White skated to a 6-0 Victory. The Brotherhood now turns their attention to the University of New Hampshire Wildcats coming to town on Friday.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

I'm a BC fan, but I will say this about Miami: They are fully deserving of a Championship. For a relatively small school to build such a lasting and powerful program is so great to see. It bodes well for the sport of college hockey. Aside from BC, there's no other program that I'd like to see win it than Miami. Maybe New Hampshire, but they shoot themselves in the foot all the time once the NCAAs roll around that they've almost turned into a caricature.

Not a relatively small school! Actually, Miami's main campus is slightly larger than BC with 15,000 undergrads and around 1,000 grad students. In addition, that does not include Miami's branch campuses in Hamilton, Ohio; Middletown, Ohio and Miami's European campus in Luxemburg.

Even though, interestingly enough, Mercier's was during his junior season when he was expected to improve - though perhaps not that much - while relying on a senior class filled with talent (e.g., Jones, Davis). He also had a huge game in the exhibition against Waterloo (a 5-0 win) netting a hat trick.

Coincidence?? Hmm.. :)

It's ok. UNH tied someone named St. Francis Xavier.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Not really sure what NH tying in their exhibition has to do with anything. What I was saying is that I wish our goalies got a little more work in a game situation in our exhibition. NH out shot St. Francis 44-14 in that game so I'm sure our goalies will be facing some shots this upcoming weekend.
