Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

As already mentioned, the Scalp Song will survive for now. Regardless of the reason for the backpedal, we need to make sure that we can preserve the tune for the long-term by changing the negative aspects. So I was thinking: what can replace the "yelp" in the song? Anyone at the Regional two years ago in Minneapolis remember the Duluth kids high-pitch screaming "KAW!" at us? Imagine a student section full of students screeching in unison. It would be dreadful and not nearly as cool as the yelp, but hey...it's an idea.

Moving on... I am very ready for some hockey. Won't be able to make it down to a game until Homecoming, so I'm very thankful for ONN.

I was all for adopting the whoop concept on penalty kills using the "yelp"...guess that would be counterproductive at this point

Haha if that stupid whooping can catch on, the KAW! can definitely catch on. Just imagine angry hawks dive-bombing the opposing players to peck their eyes outs. KAW!!!

That song is definitely awesome, hell, to justify the students even singing it just change war hawks to redhawks and boom, cross generational Miami mascot support.

My new favorite post

God I can feel my ears bleeding already. It will be interesting to see if they flat out make an announcement asking students to no longer do the yelp or how they go about this. I just don't see students self-policing based on rumors flying around facebook that the song was almost banned. I'm sure 3/4 of the students at the Goggin on Sunday will not have the slightest clue about any of this.

I say screw it and no matter what team the student section just yell " Tiny Goalie "! That caught on well in Ft. Wayne and frankly is just funny.

Those who were there will get that, those who weren't should still get it! lol :D

Yeah he'll be a '12, get a full season of juniors under his belt. We're losing 5 forwards and 1 D after this season to graduation, I'd assume we go after another D recruit here soon so Murphy can get some more work in before he comes to Miami. So if we only take in 5 forwards next year who's the odd man out? Coleman would have to come in because of his age. I'd like to see Czarnik in too being a potential flight risk, as well as Biggs. Mullin should be ready. Gacek has been very impressive in the EJHL and now he's with the big boys. And there's still Kuraly and Wideman with the Ice.

Hate to break it to you but there will be more than 6 openings next season. If you don't think atleast weber is leaving your kidding yourself.

Biggs, czarnik and Mullin will be here for sure, along with coleman and murphy. Gacek most likely will be as well. You can expect an older defenseman to sign as well before the season is over. There is a good chance there could be 3 openings at D. Kurlay is most likely a '12 recruit with the new signee as well. Also not sure what the deal is but Wideman is no longer listed as a Miami recruit on Heisenbergs page.

If I may be so bold, this year is going to be AWE-frickin'-SOME!!!!

This could be one of the best teams we've ever had, which is saying a lot. But this is also going to be the deepest the CCHA has been in a while.

Alaska is going to really flipping good with it's defense. Ferris and Lake State should both be very tough outs throughout the season. Michigan is expected to be back at its usually place near the top (let's be honest they should have no trouble scoring). Maybe i'm a little optimistic, but I expect great things out of MSU this year. Not sure why, but I just feel they're going to put it together. Northern just knows how to play hockey - enough said. Notre Dame and Ohio State are unknowns. They each have a ton of talent, just haven't put it together yet.

This is going to be a great season!!!! GO HAWKS!!!!

Love the optimism!

If the league is better this year, it certainly means more competition, but overall, that's a good thing. As much as I loved literally wiping the league last year and running away with the title, I think that hurt us a little down the stretch from a "clinched early" perspective. The team did a good job to hold it together but still couldn't find a way to win that elusive Mason Cup.

optimism is really nice, would challenge your statement on Ohio st. having a ton of talent though...They lost their best three players to early depatures.

However, I would caution everyone who is overly optimistic. Be patient, I don't know what it is but this team has a different feel to it than the past. Maybe its the lack of leadership, but hopefully someone steps up. I just don't see that strong leader that Miami has had the past 5-6 years. Talent isn't an issue but playing as a team is a must and something this program has done well the last half decade.

Not a bad thing to fly under the radar but not a whole lot of buzz nationally about this team, which is fine. We will find out quick how big of a loss Tommy Wingles was.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Thanks for the kind words. I remember watching us in the late 80s and early 90s, even the first couple Gwozdecky years. This truly has been building for 20 years and hopefully we can sustain it for as long as schools like BC. Your squad is going to be difficult to knock off. If they stay healthy maybe only North Dakota will be able beat them come tournament time.

It often does come down to BC-NoDak and it would have if NoDak took care of their own game in the NE Regional.

But, all the best to Miami! This is a GREAT college-hockey success story!

I understand your "Let's see what we've got" stance. Last year, I was almost giddy with the expectation when thinking of the start of the season. This season, I'm much more calm about it...maybe i'm just wiser, but I doubt that. lol.

With respect to the leadership, I think that, since we're not in the practices, we will have to wait until the start of the season. In pure speculation, I imagine we'll see Patty C and Will Webber emerge. I would also not be surprised if A.M. steps up. The guy that I was expecting to last year (and was disappointed when he didn't) was Carter Camper.
