Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Mullin named to all-tourney team at the Junior Select challenge. He and Czarnik lead Team USA to comeback victory to claim Gold!

Biggs with 2-3-5 in the U18 Four Nations tourney that also resulted in Gold.

Ryan Hartman with a goal in the U17 Four Nations gold medal game. Another Team USA win!

We have never had this many "pedigreed" recruits coming to campus. The future looks very bright!!

Surprised Mullin didn't win the tourney MVP.

Some stats about the series this weekend.

Miami 6-3-3 at Bowling Green 5-7-0

Miami is 14-1-0 against BG in their last 15 games of the series.

Miami averaging 3.83 goals/game offensively and giving up 2.08 goals/game. Bowling Green scoring 2.17 and giving up 3.33.

Miami's powerplay is clicking at 19% right now, and PK at 88.5%. BG's powerplay has been pretty bad, 8.2%, and the PK at another not so great 77.3%.

The teams are led offensively by...
Miami
Camper 11-17--28
Miele 6-15--21
Smith 8-5--13
Cannone 5-5--10
The Hirschfeld 4-4--8

BG
Samuels Thomas 3-7--10
Rodriguez 4-4--8
Solway 4-3--7
Wojtala 2-4--6
Mohler 3-1--4

(By comparison, The Hirschfeld would be the second leading scorer on BG, and he has played in 4 less games than their leaders.)

Goalies:
Miami
Reichard: 5-1-0. 1.92 GAA. .915 Sv%
Knapp: 1-2-3. 2.23 GAA. .899 Sv%

BG
Eno: 3-3-0. 3.01 GAA. .895 Sv%
Hammond: 2-4-0. 3.51 GAA. .895 Sv%

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Also, noticed these stats recently looking into why although Reichard and Knapp have similar stats, their record is vastly different...

Total Goals Against
Reichard: 12
Knapp: 13

All the stats are very similar, except for the next one...
Miami goals with each player in net
Reichard: 30
Knapp: 16

What makes those numbers even worse, take away the 9 goal NMU game, and we have scored only 7 goals in the other 5 games Knapp has been in net.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Saturday's have been pretty ugly. We need to start playing a consistent 120 minutes. It needs to start this weekend. We really need six points to get some momentum building.

Interesting analysis.

By the way, if you have not seen this, scroll down to the USHL. Add Mullin who has already been drafted to the future (we hope) RedHawks on the list and it looks good.

Most talented group of kids ever to put on a Miami Jersey. IMO only 1 flight risk player on that list and don't think he is a flight risk anymore.

Definitely. We've had a few solid classes before with a couple studs. But never loaded top to bottom like this one.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

I guess the good thing to come out of this is it seems that all the top teams are dropping games left and right. Michigan is on a 4-3-0-1 run. ND 2-2-1-0. BC 3-4-0. BU 3 straight ties. Good thing about this weekend was getting the powerplay clicking finally. 3 goals this weekend on the man advantage, only 8 before that in the other 10 games. Gonna be an interesting series up at BG. They played really well against ND and could have swept. Come onnnnn six points.....

Michigan is not playing with any confidence. They are struggling offensively and have relied on on the blueline too much for points. I still think Miami is the team to beat in the conference, although Notre Dame's freshmen are terrific and will carry them if they don't hit the wall. Overall, the conference is stronger- BG, WMU, OSU and LSSU are all going to make the stronger teams play a full game. NMU doesn't usually get going until the 2nd half of the season, and MSU has run into inconsistent play also. Ferris and Alaska are good teams that are offensively challenged. You may see more runs of ranked teams with average records because the competition has improved, especially in the CCHA. UNO may have challenged for a top position in the league also if they didn't bolt.

Not only that but Miami has never had a 1st round draft pick on their campus. Yet their are potentially 2-3 that will be here in the next 2 seasons. Weber's 2nd round selection is the highest drafted player to come to Miami. Which is encouraging that he has played atleast 3 seasons. Hopefully the atmosphere that has been created will remain and these high draft picks will continue to want to stay and play at Miami.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Kevyn Adams was a first round pick (Boston Bruins), but he is the only one.

Need to stop allowing teams to win the third period against us. And, it's been two-plus years of allowing extra attacker goals seemingly every opportunity. We have to get these two things under control or it's going to cost us in big games. Neither are great trends. The extra attacker stuff is probably my biggest area of criticism of Blasi. It's not like this started last night. We have to figure out a way to fix it.

Hopefully get some goal support for knapp tonight too

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

I was pleased by tonight's effort. The sets were well done. Couple of thoughts on tonight:

1. Carter is absolutely awesome along the red line. Whenever he needs to take the off-side of goal, he almost NEVER misses. And he has the hands to even more deadly in finding shooters from behind the net. What a special player.

2. Hats off to BG - what a truly improved team. Coach B has brought a brand new environment there in a very short amount of time (as we knew he would). Looked like a pretty good crowd for a Saturday game - even without the nice sized Miami contingent.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Enjoyable weekend at the BGSU ice arena, over 3,000 people there tonight and a very lively Miami section behind the bench.

How about Riley tied for 6th in the nation for points after this weekend
