Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

So BU is up on UVM and I can't figure if that's a good thing. BU winning puts us more in control of our destiny as we go head to head with them next week, keeping UVM as a safer distance as we need them to do well at Lowell. Unfortunately that means we need 3 out of four from BU in that case. Having watched us blow what should have been 4 this weekend, I can't say I'm optimistic.

Doesn't mean I won't be Loud and proud at the gameS.... I guess well just have to see what happens

I agree with Ryecheers, we generated solid chances, we just couldn't convert. Foster had a good game, we played 55 minutes of solid winning hockey and then fell asleep at the wheel. VERY FRUSTRATING. Been watching Student these past two games, he's played well enough to give Maley some quality time playing left bench. Strathman as a forward, oy, we need more centers! Thankfully we look to have some quality centers coming in next year, hopefully they transition quickly into HE play, we shall see. Next weekend is going to be very exciting, one eye on our game, one eye on the out of town scoreboard.

Pardon the intrusion onto your thread, but I thought Rawlings was impressive last night. It's the first time I've seen him play and he made some key saves throughout. At the end of the handshake line last night, Coach Umile took a few extra minutes to congratulate Rawlings - putting a hand on his shoulder and getting up close to provide words of encouragement (I assume). I bet Umile would like to have him on our team. When Foster is gone next year, it's not clear if his replacement(s) will do as well.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

After the big 3:00 game today, (BU/UVM of course) there are a few things to discuss....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the only way to get home ice now without a full out sweep of BU this weekend is if UVM/UML tie both games...?

That's a huge if! I'm putting it out there and saying that any ties or losses this weekend will be a huge "see you next year, Matthews"

With that said, BU had some serious trouble with PC last weekend and just got swept by a struggling UVM team. Maybe we'll catch some of the luck UNH found this weekend and get the 4 points we robbed ourselves of. (Notice, I hold us responsible for losing the three points...)

As it was said earlier, what a difference one more point would have made. WOW. Should be an interesting couple of weeks to come, with everyone so close in HE.

Bring. It. On.

You guys could be seeing a LOT of BU over the next few weeks. Please finish them off. Thanks.

Yeah I remember Northeastern scoring all of the goals on Rawlings (well they did score one, thank you for that ;) )

As long as they split and NU sweeps, NU gets Home Ice. NU would have 28 points, UML would have 27 points, UVM would have 26 points and bu would have 24points. If that happens, we play UML at Matthews.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

We're basically saying the same thing here- NU needs to sweep...

no they won't, it's impossible for the two to play in the QF's.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I'd be just fine with an NU split. By my reckoning, we would win the head-to-head tiebreaker with BU and also come out ahead of the Terriers in any three-way tiebreaker with the other teams that could end up at 26 points (winning against UMass-BU and Merrimack-BU outright, beating BU in UML-BU and UVM-BU after the other team won the three-way tiebreak).

Random thought:
Ginand on the All-Decade team over McNeely?

I wasn't a fan of that.

Not so random. McNeely is and will be a much better all-around player and a leader. Ginand was exciting towatch and had a great senior year in 2009 so he is fresh in the voters' minds. He was fun to watch.

Not so random. I've had the same thought.
McNeely is and will be a much better all-around player and a leader. IMHO his hockey IQ is well above Ginand's. He is a superb passer (except in the Beanpot )
OTOH, Ginand was a slicker puck handler and exciting to watch. He had a great senior year in 2009 so he is fresh in the voters' minds. He was fun to watch. Spent first two years taking dumb penalties. Wised up and became much more productive.

My choice: McNeely

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

..maybe i'm worng, but i don't think i saw Tyler's name on the list to begin with... perhaps because he is on the active roster?

Don't remember.. maybe it was there.. if it was.. i def voted them both in..

Either way.. he should be in the mix nxt time (ie 2010-2020) whether he wins or not. His gm has improved tremendously.

Yea but Driscoll is part of the decade team and he's still part of the roster

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

..you're right.

The only other reason i can think of is Driscoll graduates this summer(ie 2010) ..v/s McNeely still a junior might be part of the nxt grouping (2011-2020).. but i am guessing.

Other than that.. it is perplexing. Like i said, can't believe i wouldn't have voted for him were his name on there.. but i don't remember seeing it. If someone has the original list, pls confirm if Tyler's name was on it to begin with..? thnks

I don't know if Tyler's name was one there but I would have voted for Ryan regardless. Ginand had a 20-goal season and was just about the best forward on that team in the last two to three seasons, really a fun player to watch.
