Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen
I know what you're saying but not the best example as UVM made the Frozen Four last year and the Texans have never made the playoffs. UVM is starting to take a few of the blue chip prospects away from UNH, BC and BU and over the last 3 years they have made a strong case to replace Maine in the HE "Big 4". As an NU fan it is frustrating because the last two years I felt as though UVM was only slightly better than NU and yet they achieved a HE championship game appearance and a Frozen Four. I have a lot of respect for Sneddon, he is one of the most underrated coaches in the conference, if not the nation. I predict Friday's game to be another physical, close game between these two; the kind of game where a full Doghouse could really help our Huskies out. Obviously, a win would be huge for both momentum and HE points however no outcome would really surprise me.
UVM is not taking blue chip recruits away from anybody. They have taken at least one guy who committed to NU, and then changed his mind when he though UVM would be better.
The idea of teams stealing recruits from one another is a bit silly. You might go up against one of those teams, but to choose Vermont over Maine or UNH is not that much of a stretch. It has always been a great program, minus the year when they got shut down. Plus alot of schools target different types of players due to style and what they are looking for.
NU targets older players for instance. The Dainel brothers being the exception to the rule. The majority of our players our 21 year old freshmen. That does not happen up at BC. Merrimack is rebuilding the same type of way. bu goes after all the guys on the Team USA and builds out from there.
Teams dont steal recruits, they offer something the other schools do not to that particular player.
I am looking foward to this Friday's game for a bunch of reasons. First, I want to see how this NU team starts to deal with a little bit of winning. Second, while they have been playing better, they have yet to beat anybody. 3 wins in Hockey east, two against teams that if the season ended today, would not make the playoffs. No idea on how good the Maine victory was, being we are even with them in the standings and were at home at the time. 3 out of the 4 losses against the top 3 teams in Hockey East, and the one against Maine.
If they beat UVM, might be the first "good" win of the season so far. Plus this being our one home game against them, you want these two points because playing up there can be very, very tough, and a lost weekend points wise.
Dont be surprised to see people at the game on Friday. Might not be students, but season ticket holders who want to get away from their families, and have issues coming on Friday due to traffic will be there. Plus with not much else going on in the city, people will show.
