whipped, no excuses.

looking forward to the weekend, id imagine we could have a pretty impressive crowd @ Lowell Saturday given the possibility of commuter railing it there and the cheap tickets.

What about tomorrow's crowd? Hopefully my buddies and I will have some fans to sit with...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Well.. we're 2-2. Not great & not end of the world either.

Interesting looking at last yrs mtg between NU & UNH.. our first gm around the same time last yr..UNH won 4-2 at home as well. Win, lose or draw tonight.. we need to play with more intensity and not sit back (i noticed this several times last night after our first 10 mins). Lowell will play us a lot more physical than UNH did. Hope the refs call a good gm & we see more PP chances (hopefully for us).. tonight.

As for Rawlings.. just hope he'll watch the tape from last night & continue the adjustment process. It'll come i believe & hopefully we're stronger later in the season for it. I'd rather he get all his shakiness/ weaknesses.. whatever you want to call it.. out of the way first half of the season.

C'mon offense, let's get him some support tonight! Go Huskies :)

Wow... even UML's homer radio announcer is saying that 5 minute should only have been a minor. Sounds like NU got the shaft on that call.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

well there was rlly no difference if it was a 2 or 5 minute. either way it sounded like we didnt play to win and we didnt finish chances

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I think NU played much better tonight than last night. Rawlings played pretty well & you can't blame him on the 5x3 goal. Other than that, we had our chances.. Hutton played well for Lowell, i give him credit. Other than that, no one on their team impressed me much this gm.

Could've been a tie gm, could've been a 'W' for us.. either way.. i like our chances against Lowell nxt time we play 'em.

Its not going to be like last yr & this wknd just proves that. Lets keep working hard as the year progresses & i think we'll be fine come mid-season. Again, i really liked the way Rawlings played tonight. We're just a bit short on offense (i miss you Steve Quailer), but i did like our intensity level.. much better this gm than last. Wish we could've capitalized more on the PP.

I think NU played hard tonight, but I noticed something that I complained about a ton last year, too. The PP was pathetic. They just pass the puck around with no real movement to it, so a PK unit has a chance to set themselves, then doesn't have to "scramble" at all. I wish they would make some quicker passes and get some guys moving a bit more. They are making the lives of penalty killers very easy right now. I know I'm relatively new to NU hockey, and I think Cronin is a hell of a coach, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they play their PP the way they do.

Rawlings was pretty good. I did not have a good look at what happened on the first goal, but there was nothing he could do about that second goal. It was a 5x3, and UML made some quick passes and moved Rawlings from side to side. Patrick Roy wouldn't have stopped that one. In any case, I hope nobody jumps on Rawlings for this performance because he did a good job. When a goalie holds an opponent to two goals, his team should get points out of it.

That said, it's time to start Mountain. Not because Rawlings can't do the job, but because you cannot rely on a freshman goaltender to make every start and be successful. He isn't getting a lot of help right now and a shakeup might be good. Give Mountain a chance to play and maybe he'll be good enough to at least force Cronin into a goalie rotation.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

my thoughts on the weekend:

-thought the whitt would be a more up to date facility given UNH's success, I was wrong
-I have never heard a wider variety of songs played at any arena than the whitt
-orange trons were never a good idea
-nor were glow in the dark thunder cones
-nor were blimps for hockey arenas

oh the hockey?
well our offense is useless if we arent on the power play, well make that a 5 on 3. the unh game everyone on our team looked terrible, every last one of them. the sad thing is we had an outside shot at winning if rawlings didnt give up that soft goal on the PP (3rd goal i think?) and if we didnt take back to back too many men on the ice penalties. guh, thats a song im done singing.

the lowell game we looked better, rawlings played a solid game, d was acceptable, offense generated some opportunities but in the end too many. hopefully the bye week gives us ample time to fix the offense, we have too much talent on it to be this bad.

Rawlings may be the worst lateral moving goaltender I've seen since Bishop left Maine. If Lowell hadn't completely missed on about five wide open backdoor opportunities that game turns into a laugher in the first fifteen minutes.

Pretty much didn't give up a rebound all night, but any goalie's going to look good against the anemic Husky O.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I agree with you on the anemic offense.

Yet i'd prefer we iron this out early in the season than towards the end. (we skated better tonight, than against Bentley or UNH).

I do believe it'll pan out. The road until.. slightly painful for both, player & fan.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Nice week for a bye for the Huskies...plenty to work on.

To steal (half) a thought from Peter King

Five things I think I think about the Huskies

1. Goaltending is fixing itself, Rawlings has looked better each game, I don't see him as a liability at this point...

2. We miss Joe Vitale and Ryan Ginand (and further more Steve Quailer) a lot more than I thought we would, especially Ginand and his 20 goals...would be nice to have them on the ice.

3. Wade MacLeod and Tyler McNeely look like they are trying to do to much out there. Work with your teammates, just cause they are young doesn't mean they are not talented...

4. The defense is not as bad as I thought it would be but I don't like Mike Hewkin and Randy Guzior back there, Guzior gets more of a pass being that he's played two games at the position but I don't trust either back there to make a play...

5. The freshman are pretty good. Lots of speed and talent.
5a. Robbie Vroylk...hit the weight room kid.
5b. Garrett Veermersh...just cause you scored twice with a slap shot from the point doesn't mean you always need to take it
5c. Defensive froshies...looking fine, keep it up
5d. Dainels bros...keep working hard in practice, you will pick up HEA play soon enough

Hewkin and Guz are atrocious, but that's what happens when half your team suddenly gets hurt. What's wrong with Vrolyk? Kid's shorter than me and takes the body as much as he can and has a nose for the slot. Vermeersch should be shooting from the point 100000% of the time. Who else do you want, Strathman? That being said if he's shooting it into legs because our movement on the PP is non-existent, that's another story.

Well...I was going to come on and grumble a little bit about wasting my time up at Lowell on Saturday and this weekend in general, but you guys pretty much summed it up.

The best part of Saturday's game was the Zooperstars and everybody who was in attendance knows it.
