Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

What is this dynasty potential she speaks of.

*Quick someone ask one of the NoDak posters for the link!!*

Congrats Paula, the crack writes at the Student beat you to the punch 3 years ago, how does that feel!

Even with that offensive outburst, they're still just 38th in the nation in scoring offense. Just sayin'. :D

Im with ya, but your right the matchup does lean towards a couple 2-1 type games.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Two highlights from Paula's column this week:

From "A League of One"...

:p

...and later, in "The Silver Lining"...

One of the better columns I've seen this year, but I probably feel that way because Miami got a lot of good press! I literally laughed out loud when I read the "dynasty" line, and though I was surprised to see no Miamians on her All-CCHA Team, particularly in the goaltender position, it doesn't matter one bit when compared to the recognition of the team.

Looking forward to Buckeyes/Irish tomorrow, mainly because I'm excited to check out the Ice Rink during an actual game!

wear a helmet, your so close to the action you actually feel you are on the ice...

Yea Mike Emrick definantly didn't pass up an opportunity to mention where Dan played lol. Might have something to do with the fact he attended the school, but who knows...lol :D

Ahhhhhh hahaha. Oh man that Weston column became a huge joke at the bottom, really? Did she happen to see a single game this season? Or just refuse to look at any players on the team that ran away with the conference.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

"It was difficult making the choice between Palmisano and Alaska’s Scott Greenham for goaltender. I’ll leave it at that." -Paula Weston

Leave it at that? Don't you think you are forgetting the conference leader in goaltending and a the goalie that is in the top 2 nationally? Perhaps I am missing something but is she really against Miami that much that she can't even give Reichard a mention when making her choice?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

I posted the following response the Weston article. I didn't mention the "dynasty" thing since everyone above already mocked it and the horse is friggin' dead already. But feel free to let me know if my response was mis-guided or unwarranted.

Got to go with streaker here. I find it hard to believe that a team that is generally accepted as Top 2-3 in the nation doesn't land a single mention on a reporter's all-conference team. I can guarantee you that any single member of our top 2 lines would start on any team in the CCHA. Come on, Paula! You're seriously going to go with the "they're all good, but just not great" angle?!

But I'll be reasonable - there is some very good talent in the CCHA. The front 5 are debatable. However, the greatest travesty of your little "dream team" (since you were obviously asleep while filling this out) is goaltender. I agree that Palmisano is a good player, as shown by a 2.21 GGA in conference play. However, how do you not give that spot to a guy that is nationally accepted as one of the Top 3 goalies in the country (let alone the CCHA): Cody Reichard. He's nearly a full goal better per game in conference play (.98) and over 1/2 goal better overall (.59). I imagine that your response will be something along these lines: "But Miami's team defense is so much better than MSU. They block more shots and, therefore, he doesn't see as many chances." Fair point. Miami does give up the body a lot. So let's look at a number comparison based on the same # of shots faced:

DP: (773 saves) / (.922 sv%) = 838 shots faced (65 goals allowed)

CR: (838 shots faced) x (.937 sv%) = 785 saves (53 goals allowed)

What do you know - extrapolated, Cody's still the better goalie. whodathunkit?!?!?!

She also went with Deon only because he has 14 CCHA goals.

Palmer had 14 conference goals, and a handful more assists than Deon.

Wingles had 15 conference goals  . He also led the conference in game winning goals. Deon had 1 game winning goal. Miele Palmer and VAIVE all had 2+.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Well written MiamiRedHawks2008. I can't imagine what was going through her head when she made her goalie pick. Funny stuff

Another laugher. As I'm sure Paula would say...Miami is so balanced they don't deserve individual recognition...blah blah blah. I just laugh when I think the best team in the conference doesn't even land one person on her all conference team.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

As a couple of you have implied, individual stuff means nothing, but the good news is that Paula probably will be wrong, especially in net. Isn't there like offensive and defensive defenseman and forward? Gotta be some love for Miami on the defensive side. How could there not be? I never get upset about all conference teams, though, because there are so many worthy candidates.

great thing is she doesn't soley decide it, and her awards are meaningless...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Its just laughable when someone is the ccha columnist and screws up that bad

I bet she got help on the picks by dave starman. Wait. No the entire first team would be UNO players and Gary steffes

I got a good laugh reading that she was deciding between the MSU goalie and the UAF goalie for her All-CCHA team. Who does she think she's kidding?

Seriously, I think any time a goalie breaks one of Ryan Millers recods, and ties another, he's probably a pretty good goalie. This guy seemed to have a little better write up..

CCHA Goaltender of the Year: Cody Reichard - So - Miami

Miami's Connor Knapp makes a great second best, but this really isn't much of a contest. Reichard led the CCHA in goals against (1.22), save percentage (.950), and shutouts (5) this season, and while Knapp was second in all three categories it wasn't a very close second. It'd be nice of me to name some runners-up, and there were several solid goalies in the CCHA this season, but Reichard stands alone as the best the CCHA has to offer and honestly is neck-and-neck with Denver's Marc Cheverie as the best in the nation.

;)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Another classic INCH chat question posed by "Rico" yesterday.

Enrico Blasi (Oxford, OH)

I have a dilemma - Reichard has been my #1 goalie all season, but recently Connor Knapp has been outplaying him. I don't want to throw my team off their rhythm, but I am also tempted to start Knapp for the CCHA and NCAA tournament. What should I do?

Mike Eidelbes (2:58 PM)

Sounds like a no-lose situation to me, especially since there's not much of a drop-off in productivity between Reichard and Knapp. The good news is that Miami is likely locked into the 1 seed in the Midwest Regional, so Blasi ... err, you ... could continue rotating goalies during the CCHA playoffs and see if one emerges prior to the NCAA tournament.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Ha I'm still going strong. Got much Receptions for updates in hole in the wall though. I jus met up with some friends at Macs and finished off their meals. Stein next perhaps?

Well, at least I had something to eat at some point yesterday apparently. I think it was half a steak hoagie and some wings?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

JD...i must admit that being away from Oxford makes me really miss the German Cellar. def the best beer in town. But an update, I have messaged my travel plans to be in town for the CCHA Rnd 2 playoffs. So i'm very pumped for that. unfortunately, that meant missing GBD.

Starman did come out with a column based on backlash from his comments about Miami during his UNO broadcast where he tried to clear things up. Stll doesn't make sense as he still believes Miami isn't tested and is vulnerable...Guess he missed the first half of the year....
