Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

There is no Miami hockey and no curling this weekend. I do not have the slightest idea what I am going to do with myself.

Question to individuals far more knowledgeable then myself on such matters. I'm pretty new to following the recruiting process, who will we most likely be seeing in Oxford at the start of next year or is it still too early to know? I don't want to be an ignorant student anymore!! Jp rhm :p

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Since 628 asked a hockey question, so will I. What CCHA awards will Miami win this year? Should be a few, right? Coach of the Year is the easy one. Others?

Honestly, I'm not sure any of the awards that should be slam dunks will be.

Here's what I think.

Defensive defenseman - Cam Schilling
Goalie - Cody Reichard
Defensive forward - maybe Palmer or Miele

And, I think that's probably it.

These five just signed their NLIs in the fall

(Bersch, Cook, Mullin, Cody Murphy, Alex Wideman)

That doesn't necessarily mean that all 5 are coming in next season, especially given we are only losing 2 spots on the ice with Palmer and Brandon Smith. Last year we got a couple late commits in Mason and Mantha that threw the whole thing for a loop.

The only player that you can be certain is coming in is Paulazzo because he is too old to play another year in Juniors.

That said, you can probably expect Paulazzo, Cook, and probably Bersch next year to name a few. Wideman probably could use another year in Indy, and Cody Murphy in Tri-City. A few or our recruits (Biggs, Connor Murphy, Gacek) are still juniors in highschool so obviously they aren't coming in next season.

Don't forget that Tiesling is eligible next season also after sitting out his transfer season.

I know Ferris had their season of the decade as they seem to have every 10 years, but I don't see how you can hold our recent success against Blasi as Coach of the Year. Only losing 2 of 28 conference games, 1 of which was in overtime. I'd think he'd get serious consideration for that one.

Agree on Schilling, his play has been ridiculous this season. Palmer and Miele are great shorthand and on defence, but would their offensive production hurt them? I think Nate took home that award before.

Goalie is easy.

First team forwards will be Olver (NMU), Dalpe (OSU), and Palmer.

And a nice little informational video with Green Beer Day tomorrow and St Pats around the corner.

Agree completely on your first team forwards though Tropp might sneak in there as well.

He's had a good year nationally, but he'd have to jump over Miele and Taranto (UAF) still to hop into #4 in CCHA scoring.

Paulazzo, Cook, and Tiesling are you only gurantees and outside of that they don't need anyone else with only loosing 4 of this years roster.

Definitely, thats why I dont really expect too many coming in next season. It'd be nice if Wideman Bersch and Gacek could get a line going in Indy next season and have them ready to step in as freshmen and already have that chemistry built.

Coach blasi is a lock for coach of the year and I would think Schilling or even Wideman could be defenseman of the year. But I don't see any offensive guys getting the nod because of the balanced scoring.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

For the CCHA playoffs this weekend, I'm really looking forward to the OSU-ND game the most. I am probably thinking more of each team's talent and potential, but there could be some serious fireworks in that matchup. Second best pairing is probably Lake State and Michigan. The other two are pretty much snoozers. Not sure you can give BG or Western much of a chance to take more than 1 game in a weekend.

Also, to clear up something about the bracket...doesn't the lineup get reshuffled after the first round with the lowest seed playing Miami? http://www.collegehockeynews.com/reports/confinfo.php?d=bracket&c=2 shows the bracket of OSU-ND winner playing Miami. This makes absolutely no sense for any tournament I've ever heard of .

That's how I remember the playoffs working as well. Unless they changed something when they went to the new point system.

From how I understand it you are right. The lowest seed that wins will be repaired to play us. I think that bracket is just assuming all the higher seeds win so then the winner of the OSU and ND matchup will play Miami.

Teams do get reseeded after the first round. The brackets are just set up that way so that you have a bracket. It is also based on if the favorites win that is how things would turn out.
